Adjusting to Life in the Netherlands

We moved from Korea to the Netherlands a few months ago and we love it here so far! Our lifestyle has changed a bit since we moved. I'm walking, biking, and running more than before. The Netherlands has fantastic biking infrastructure and dedicated bike lanes to make biking to places accessible.
I look forward to exploring more of the Netherlands and sharing that with you all.

Your channel will skyrocket if you keep making videos about living in the Netherlands. The Dutch are patriotic but not in a cocky “We are the best” way like the stereotypical American is for example because it’s all about equality there. The Dutch reunite a lot online to talk about their country and they will heavily push any persons experience on living in the Netherlands! Subscribed and looking forward to more videos, and seeing you grow!

A very Dutch habit you picked up: Only use the free part from any app you install. I, as a Dutch man, didn't manage that to achieve that, so I play my music through Deezer (the only one that still has an European owner 🙃)

@ 03:46 The Dutch are not only known for their bicycles, but also ''notorious'' for their Dutch directness (directheid). So, be prepared when you are getting comments on your YT videos, talking to Dutch people or socialize with Dutch colleagues.

Hi Ashley!! I first came across your channel when we found out we were moving to Korea. We have been here almost 5 months now. Been quite the adjustment for our children especially. Did the military take you guys to the Netherlands? I have friends there who are American and also Army if you should need anything. Can I ask, between Asia and Europe, which do you think you like better?

Hi! Yes, we are here with the military. We've only lived in Germany, Netherlands, and Korea, so that is the extent of my experience with Asia and Europe, but based on that, I think I prefer Europe. Coming from a Western culture to an Eastern culture (Korea) took some time for us to adjust to as well. The worst part about Korea IMO is the air quality. The best part about Korea is the low crime rate. I felt really safe there.

@@AshleyRoberts80 yes!! I totally agree with the air quality and the low crime rate. We have 3 teens and they have trained up to Seoul completely alone and all was totally fine. I will for sure miss the low crime rate

Welcome to The Netherlands Ashley! Glad you enjoy it here and are recycling as most of us do. You might want to look up the YT site of our Dutch guy Boyan Slat called The Ocean Cleanup. You’ll be amazed! Would be nice to see how you like Dutch and local events (don’t know were you live). Soul to Soul Travel already does foodtastings so maybe no need to duplicate that. Enjoy!

@@AshleyRoberts80 If you would like to try a regional dish try the zuurvlees, but otherwise every dish is great there. It is a good restaurant for regional food limburg-belgium and france. They all left a mark on Maastricht

Thanks! We are from North Carolina. So far everyone we have encountered has been pleasant, but yes, rude people can be found anywhere.

@@AshleyRoberts80 The thing I like to tell Americans about the Netherlands is that the 'pilgrim fathers' the group of English colonists to whom many Americans can trace their ancestry first stayed in the Dutch Republic for 12 years before moving to the New World. You can find their church that they used for prayer in Delft and their time here could be interesting to Americans. Of course many Americans just go for the weed and party's but there is a very rich history and culture that you could explore if you decide to do so.

@@AshleyRoberts80 But also know that long summer days mean short winter days. Living in or near Maastricht gives easy access to the Ardennes, Luxembourg and the German region close by. For a day trip or a weekend, big variety of things to see.
