I have had my ADN for 29 years, and before that I was a LPN for 3 years, I became a LPN when I was 18 yo. This December I will graduate from an RN to BSN program and I’ll be 51. Next September I will start a DNP program to become a FNP.

I wish I had some guidance after graduating high school. I would have gone straight into an ADN. Instead I wasted my first 2 years of undergrad taking dumb classes for a biology major. Took me 6 years to get my BSN. Worked 3.5 years bedside, and now finally going to CRNA school. The newer generation have so much guidance from people like you on how to navigate their education and career!

I graduated with my ADN in 2006 with a sponsorship from a hospital so school was paid for and I had a job right away. Iwas a young mom so ADN was definitely a better route for me and my family. I graduated with my online BSN in 2018 because my hospital paid for it so it made sense. I received both my ADN and BSN from a community college locally. I agree in practice, there really isn't a difference between ADN and BSN nurses. I actually think waiting for my BSN helped me in applying for CRNA school because I had clinical years and recent academic experience that other applicants that went straight for BSN couldn't. I'm starting my CRNA DNP at University of South Florida in May. Thanks for another thoughtful video!

My mother has been an ADN nurse for over 30 years and has had a stellar career. She says the best financial way to go is LPN, then ADN. From my understanding, she says that having a BSN is all fluff, and they just put more stress on the nurse with supervisory roles with the same pay. ADN for me

@@Zizzyyzz I did LVN to ADN. NCLEX was easy because LPN has already taught most of it. I was CNA at first though. LVN was easy to get in and with easy prereqs. I'm going to be starting an accelerated BSN program. I already have a BA degree, and decided this year Id like to get into nursing. I had initially planned on doing a 2-and-2 type program to become a BSN RN, but when I discovered 2nd degree accelerated programs, I was sold. They allow students with any 4 year degree to take the full BSN upper division course load, without the lower division courses they've already done in their first degree (classes like history, English, etc). They also eliminate extended vacation times like summer break. The result is a full BSN program and degree done in 16 months, straight. It's intense, of course, but in less than a year and a half a person can be a full fledged BSN.

I did my two years of nursing school prerequisite courses at a community college to save money then transferred my courses to a university to do their BSN program. I did that because in my area all the ADN programs were focused on turning out med surg nurses with almost no focus on specialties or critical care. The local BSN program focused a lot on specialties and specifically critical care so it seemed like a no brainer. I also knew I was going to grad school soon after so it made sense to me to do a BSN. Last reason is I had a full ride for nursing school with either an ADN or BSN as long as I worked for two years in the local ICU after graduation. Done deal.

I have just recently started watching your videos and you have been extremely helpful to me I must say. My story is, I pretty much woke up one day and realized that I don't just have a desire to be a CRNA, I have a deep passion, like a flame burning inside me that won't quinch until my goal is reached. From there I plan to do that for several years if not the rest of my life or if I decide to further my education. As for now I already have a long road ahead as I'm staying quite literally from scratch! I mean I'm about to go get my highschool diploma beginning of next year. Then on to nursing school for my ADN so I can start working ASAP. After I do that for enough time and get into the groove of things and feel ready I'm going to take my RN to BSN online with a popular University (UA). Then I'll continue to work on the field and pre prepare myself as much as possible for CRNA school so I can be as ready as possible though I've heard most are jaw dropped their first day of school, but if one is determined than anything is possible, right?! I know I've got a very long very hard road ahead of me but I have my path planned out and I'm also ready to make changes to that path to get to the end result if need be. I just don't have a CRNA school picked it yet as I'm giving myself time to work on the field first and make connections get opinions, etc... I am scared and excited at the same time but I am ready to tackle the world and feel like I've finally found my calling which brings me to, I'm a male that's about to turn 37!!! So, yeah, yet I don't feel insecure about that. The life I've had had been quite tough. My family situation (taking care of 3 family members that are disabled 1 amputee with more issues than that, 1diabetic/epileptic also with more issues, and 1 high anxiety, COPD also more issues than that.). I paused my life so I could help them live theirs and I don't regret any moment of it and I wouldn't change it, well other than getting rid of each of their problems if I was capable of doing so. Now though, here I am. A properly aged block of cheese ready to be sliced and eaten. Haha a bit too pungent? LoL.. ok so I just opened my book up to you and the world and laid it all out. If you have any advice I welcome it. I'm ready to move into my next phase of life and my purpose. This is me this is it this has got to be it I can feel it in my bones and every single particle of my being!!

@@TheSchoellerFamily thanks. I actually was hesitant about going into nursing for years. Family and friends kept trying to convince me it's perfect for me but I just never saw it like that. It wasn't until I came across some articles and videos on Nurse Anesthetist that everything went off like a light bulb. As if I found my purpose so to speak. I have this driver like I haven't had in years with a chaotic serene calmness inside. I've already thrown myself into this fully and it's the one thing I don't feel unsure about in life, I don't feel anxious about, well but irrationally anxious. So, since I am at a point where I can start to focus a little more on what I do with me I'm taking the leap and getting everything going so I can get certified and start ASAP in nursing and while working figure out the finer details along the way. Your videos have helped me a ton and I thank you for sharing your experience and your life with me, with everyone. You are amazing!

I went directly into a ADN/BSN program. Its called CEP program through Maricopa Community Colleges in AZ and it partners with university, usually online, at the same time you take community college courses. So I attend Mesa Community College for my ADN, and then take my BSN courses through ASU online. It's a great program, and very cost effective - the only thing is, it's super competitive. Total of both degrees plus factoring in the cost of the required prereqs is around $25k. I'm going into block 3 of 4 :)

I started at a university for nuclear medicine but didn't enjoy the atmosphere of the university as I only graduated with 90 kids out of high school. I ended up transferring to the surg tech program at my community college and the program ended up being absolutely terrible I dropped it 4 months before graduation because I didn't feel comfortable being is such a critical position taking care of patients with pretty much no knowledge.When I was signing papers to drop the program one of the heads for the ADN program asked if I was interested in their program so here I am currently in a gap year waiting to apply to the ADN program for the start of august. 🤞🏼Also my ADN program is partnered with our local university to transfer as a junior right into their RN to BSN program right after graduation.

I started LPN to ADN, and will graduate in 5 months. I already see the difference in this route where I live. The hospitals want experience and it’s a great route when you want to work and gain a ton of experience. Unfortunately we don’t have a pharmacology portion to our program (the LPN one is very simple) so most of my learning has been on the job. Compared to the BSN students, there really is no difference in the competition for jobs. If I wanted to move to a more populated area- those hospitals require a BSN. My school just rolled out a program for any nursing graduate to have automatic enrollment into a BSN program with a great university- only 1 year long. I’ll continue on my for DNP after the BSN.

Can ADN get ICU job as soon as they graduate? Someone said it is a bit difficult for ADN to get ICU job because their are a number of BSN who wants to work in ICU.

I will finish up my ADN program when I am 19 and will likely do my BSN online. Is it difficult to jump straight into a step-down/CCU/ICU as a new-grad? I would love to get my CRNA as soon as possible!

Im getting ready to apply for nursing school. The community college that I currently attend offers the ADN but there is also a technical college here in the same town that offers the BSN. I think im going to apply for both and cross my fingers I get accepted into one of them.

I will be accepted in my ADN program in August 2020. My application opens Feb 1, 2020. I can get BSN while working with my ADN. I will be taking my HESIA2 soon. I haven't scheduled it; however, I'm getting ready. I start my new job this Sunday as an EMT. I have been EVS for 1 year and 4 months. How old are you right now?

I’m interested in a nursing degree but I was told at my community college in order to earn a BSN I first have to earn my ADN but I see some people starting BSN programs which takes 4 years of course straight out of high school. How does this work? I hope this isn’t a stupid question. I’m just so confused for some reason 🤣
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 4 года назад
You can go straight to a BSN or do a 2 year ADN and then a 2 year ADN to BSN.

I’m just applying to a adn program but my problem is with vaccines not that I’m against them but I hear alot about how bad some of them are, well is there any way Rns can get around using them much like any specialties if that make sense? I love the med field or is best to apply to different program? Thanks
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 4 года назад
Typically RNs must be fully vaccinated and believe me you want to be working in health care! Sure the vaccine may make your arm sore or make you feel a little crappy but that's nothing compared to getting a preventable disease if you were to skip it. My advice is do your own research using scholarly sources and then make a decision 😊
@mariomendez4874
@mariomendez4874 4 года назад
What I mean is I want to vaccinate patients the least possible so as a Rn can I avoid using them as getting a specialty that doesn’t require them as much,or nurses doesn’t use them as much idk, or choose a different program inside health care? Rn is my preference.

I got my diploma in Nursing (went to school in Charlotte, NC at a hospital owned nursing school) in 2002. I already had all my pre-rec's from a previous 4 year college and I took a couple classes at the local comm college prior to nursing school. I went back a couple years ago to do a RN to BSN bridge, mostly because I wanted to be more competitive if I left my current position.
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 4 года назад
I think job competitiveness is a reason a lot of nurses go back for the BSN. Thanks for sharing!
