Adobe Premiere Pro Stuck timeline play head and buggy real time scrubbing glitch fix
If you use Adobe Premiere Pro you may have had a problem with scrubbing along the timeline where the play head moves along the timeline but the preview footage is stopped or jumps or skips.

God damm I'm on Premiere 2024 and this glitch still exists!! crazy adobe go find proper programmers. The play preview fixed the choppy playhead.

just to add the fact this issue seems to be 3+ years old as well and my PC is not cheap its got some power to it yh adobe is just milking us all they got is a payment plan to stay rich its sad i use to love it

Absolute life saver! The first trick worked. [Some context if any future users face a similar issue: I had been editing yesterday with the program open but decided to expriment wether I wanted to shift my main taskbar to another desktop, and this freaked out the program for some reason where after importing 3 layers or more the playback would be completely bugged and the playhead would dissapear.] Thanks a lot man!

Thank you, doing the *window>workspace>reset to saved layout* fixed my frozen timeline (my issue: preview would work when i click on a part on timeline but play head is frozen along with the graphics panel and can't click on anything in it or change panels)

Perfect. For me, it was that my Play Head wouldn't move UNLESS the video was playing, and it made it really hard to edit, but this fixed it lickety split. THANK YOU SIR

IT worked. It worked. it worked. i can not believe it. I have tried 2 days to fix that problem. I updated drivers for CPU/GPU and changed settings in the NVIDIA control panel. I changed settings in premiere pro. I restarted and deinstalled/installed Drivers / Programms. I looked for media cachee ..........the whole procedure. ohhhh i can not believe it..... it worked... this made my day. It was just the reset to saved layout of the workspace......thank you man so much.

Doesn't work! Funny thin in Premier Pro 24.1.0 is that the play head of the EffectControls panel smoothly runs while the play head of the time line hicks-up. Only when you render the video the timeline play head will run smoothly, no working solution though, each change will then cause hick-up again, When you close the EffectControl panel, the time line play head will run smoothly! Looks like Adobe cannot fix this over the years...

@@mikesunboxinghey well... if you're a problem solver kind of guy - and you're bored, look into the corsair h100 elite LCD AIO cooler. what a disaster. If you find forum posts and reddit postings, you can see that the software breaks 24/7 and you can't even flip the screen orientation.

I found something that seems to work consistently. At the bottom of the imported files panel is a thumbnail size slider. Slide that to make the thumbnails large and see if the timeline panel is now responsive. This works great for me consistently.

In fact it really works! My problem was that the Play Head did not stop until the last video in the timeline. And I know that the 'Preview Area' helps, because if I have the Project window in a menu and I open something else (for example Effects) which hides the Project, the problem comes back.

My premiere was extremely broken, if I did anything (make a an edit, scroll through timeline, ect) it would be frozen and only make the changes if I clicked the play button. The "preview area" instantly fixed it. Thank you

I know this is years old but this issue randomly started today while I was in the middle of editing a video. It was fine and then all of a sudden I couldn’t drag essential graphics/motion graphics over to my video/timeline, couldn’t select or move the timeline playhead bar and couldn’t even select the timeline box as a whole. No idea why but it was just that one video. This worked! Thank you!! As expensive as premiere pro is you’d think it wouldn’t have all these little issues.
