500 Series Shinkansen fun fact: The general design concept was overseen by German industrial designer Alexander Neumeister. The running gear utilizes computer-controlled active suspension for a smoother, safer ride, and yaw dampers are fitted between cars for improved stability. All sixteen cars in each original trainset were powered, giving a maximum of 18.24 MW (24,460 hp). Each train cost an estimated 5 billion yen, and only nine were built.

I think 500series Shinkansen is the most beautiful design of all Japanese train.

Sanrio’s popular cat character will decorate the outside in her adorable pink ribbon style, while the inside of the train has an two train carriages completely dedicated to interacting with Hello Kitty, even the train announcements have themed sounds!

Hello Kitty is well known in the United States. What an enchanting train whether you are a child or an adult! Also the trains and stations are very admirable for their cleanliness and attention to detail.

I love Japanese rail culture so much, from a station built with no exit solely so you could view the beautiful scenery from the platform before getting back on the train (Seiryu Miharashi Eki) to trains decorated for fictional characters like Hello Kitty, it's truly one of a kind. In Iwate Prefecture, they have a train decorated with Pikachu as well as an indoor play-place called the Pokémon with You Train on the Ōfunato Line. This train has a special purpose. It was created specifically to give the local kids something to look forward to after the area was devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami (along with bringing tourism to the area to help its economy recover).

Wow that's amazing! And I cannot believe how spacious the train is, and how clean it is everywhere! I'm a railway girl, but here in the UK everything on the railways is dirty and cramped, trains are ugly and designed in hideous, garish colors, and if the Japanese think a few minutes delays is a big deal then you guys are in for a shock here... here, it's unusual for a train to be on time. And once there's a few minutes delay, more and more delay gets accumulated and it just descends into a snowball effect where every train is late. It's like that every day. I know, I've worked on the railways for over 20 years. I love Hello Kitty! I sure hope I get chance one day to visit Japan. Such a beautiful country and such amazing people!

I've flown on EVA Airlines Hello Kitty 777-300ER a couple of years ago from Taiwan to Manila. On my bucket list is to ride Japan's bullet train and with my wife a big Hello Kitty fan, this would be the best of both worlds

Great trip. This is one of my favourite Shinkansen model. The design is feels coming from the future. I hope there is similar model with 500 series Shinkansen in the future with better speed and running in top tier Shinkansen.

As you note at 04:30 the seats are rather old and have no charging sockets...But you're on a 500 Series, so you're not going to have enough time to charge anything anyway! 🚄⚡💨😉 ...Which is why the remark at 03:30 about there only being five of these left in service had me in tears. 🚄🗑😢 Hope to goodness they preserve a few of the last remaining sets. It's a travesty that Eurostar are scrapping as many of the Class 373 TMSTs as they can get away with. Crossing my fingers that JR aren't making the same mistake! 🤞 Many thanks for the awesome video, and for showing us such an amazing piece of Engineering... 🚅🇯🇵❤‍🔥
