Mannarino had a career ending wrist injury a few years ago, he had to retool his tennis after the recovery, hence the unorthodox ball striking we see from him now, it’s already incredible he can play competitive tennis after that let alone on top levels .

it's not even the heat, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25C. i'd assume it has more to do with humidity which sucks even at 20-25C

Two things: Manarino despite of his age ( he is younger than Stan but over 30 ) is in form of his life, highest ranking 19, on the other hand we have Stan, after serious injury (he is to heavy imho ), and almost 39, I love his game, but it wuold be really hard for him to go back at least in range of top 20...I hope I am very very wrong )))

Love both these guys, great game...I feel sorry not only for those who have to play for 4 hours in 5 setters in the heat, but to recover to compete in your next round. Ill be seeing how Mannarino plays in the next round.

One thing I now: never will be a Tennis Open in Brazil on summer, even more in Amazon region. The guys was suffering in 25°C~28°C..how about 34~38°C with 80~100% humidity 😅. Congrats to Mannarino👏🏻

One of the most underatted player of the top 50. Happy that in this new year he finally reached the top 20 at the age of 35. When you listen to him, he is so humble, too much humble, maybe that is why he looks like an alien in the modern tennis and do not have big sponsors

Stan was 3:1 games in the lead in set 1, won sets 2 and 3, was 2:1 games with a break in the lead in set 4 - and lost. And additionally he seemed to be wiped out in the 4/5 set This is heartbreaking. I like him and his kind to play tennis that much.... 😟

2 observations. 1) that Mannarino guy's forehand barely has any backswing. I'm amazed. 2) He has 0 sponsors on his shirt. Is he just dropped by his sponsor recently? His shirts are like mine that I wear when I work in the yard, you know the ones that I don't mind throwing away if they get too dirty.

Yes, it’s how he angles his racquets strings so precisely, bending his knees to keep his body centered and controlled to direct the ball. His shots are flatter than most, so the ball travels in a more direct path after the bounce, giving the opponent little time to react.

How much suntan lotion does mannarino have to use on his head? That looks dangerous. wear a hat dude! Also his lefty forehand stroke production is just so unique. He reminds me a lot of a male Hsieh Su-Wei. no pace, but great anticipation, hands and placement.

Mannarino looks constantly as if he's whispering to the ball, and Wawrinka has some trouble against players who do not put much intensity behind their strokes (and he was fatigued as well).

L'énigme c'est plutôt les joueurs du dimanche sapés comme des superstars mdr.Bah tu viens de comprendre que c'est pas l'habit qui fait le moine ni tes godasses à 300 balles qui vont te faire gagner.Ce gars a tout compris et en plus si tu ne le sais pas déjà, il tend son cordage 2 fois moins que la moyenne du circuit et d'ailleurs personne ne descend là où il est,ils sont tous bien plus haut.

C’est un simple constat à une époque où les joueurs de tennis soignent leur image et leurs réseaux comme Jules Marie, car c’est comme cela désormais qu’on attire les sponsors. C’est aberrant de voir un joueur français aussi bien classé que Manarino, sans sponsor, quand un Jules Marie classé 226e est sponsorisé par Célio. Mannarino c’est le joueur sous côté par excellence.

@@romainprovost7164 bah voilà on est justement pas d'accord pour moi Jules marie pète plus haut que son c** ,aucun intérêt à le regarder.Le gars présente ses vidéos du genre ,je joue un ex top 60 hors que c'est le classement actuel qui compte, c'est comme tu dis "soigner son image "ou plutôt faire genre comme un joueur du dimanche sapé comme un mannequin mais qui ne va faire illusion que de sa voiture jusqu'au cours.Ça vend du rêve, ça brasse de l'air et je te signale que c'est lui qui ne veut pas de sponsors donc tu n'as clairement pas.compris son parti prit et c'est bien ça le point important. Toi tu le juge pour ce qu'il est ,car il est simple sans afficher des marques outrageusement comme un sapin de Noël, lui a tout compris toi rien!

Mannarino has the weirdest ball striking ever. He barely swings his arms and barely uses his lower body to produce power, I just don't understand how he makes the ball go that fast, it's just.. weird!

He has low string tension on his racket as it increases the weight behind your shot although it demands a high degree of accuracy in your strokes so it only suits a specialist like Mannarino.

Veterans beating other veterans. Whalerinka needs to retire. All that extra weight just adds to the injury tally. This is becoming a tennis soap to see who can weaken their tennis legacy by overstaying. Courts of Our Lives. All My Chances. The Bald and the Broken.

Well, an aging star is a tricky thing. Even if he loses a lot, he still loves the game, and the fans should appreciate his efforts. Some players semi-retire, and train full-time a period before returning. Others play themselves into form. In Wawrinka's case, I think he knows that he cannot win, but he cannot bring himself to stop because he loves the game.
