Adrian messed up the timing in the beginning because the tempo was fast and he was trying to hold Nicko back. Then Nicko started dragging, after which Harris pulled it together. But then Nicko rushed and messed it up all over again and that's when Adrian got pissed.
Yes. It’s the classic ‘Who’s on first?” between two musicians. Showing him up for such a minor mishap..which Adrian adapted horribly to on guitar…is exactly what’s not gonna lock y’all back in.
He probably can’t hear his own monitor. The audience can hear, but he might be playing by wrote and not hearing the monitor. If you know anything about playing stages, it’s a big deal. Someone less experienced would likely be faltering on the fretboard.
@@Barefoot433that hapoened to the Beetles once on a tv show, they couldnt hear each other but were so tight they didnt need to hear each other and played perfectly🤘
It happens…to real musicians like him because they’re not faking it. So they’re allowed to have a bad night. Cheers to him being a monster of a player more times than not! 🤘🤘
Saw Maiden in the Cart and Horses pub in Stratford East London in 1976. My old school mate Paul Mario Day was making his singing debut for Maiden that night. I will never forget it😁👍✌️
I was at 2 shows in Krakow. First show Nicko messed up at the same part, the second show Steve messed up exactly at the same part :D But Adrian laughed both times and kept playing.
I see everybody talking about age and stuff like that in the comments..keep in mind this was filmed on the first night of the tour while they were having technical issues on stage and the performances have gotten much better in the more recent shows..calm down people
He had cancer before and then he said in a interview he was nervous on this tour he is in his 70s the others are in their 60s im giving nicko lots of support and credit definitely not easy he isnt that young any more must be getting more difficult for him. I just hope he is ok now just proberly tiredness they all looked absolutely nackered exhausted on this tour. God bless them all
Believe me or not but I spoke to a lady at my work who was part of a big U.K. fan club who knows the band fairly well, and she told me (I’m not 100% sure I believe her) that Dave has had enough of touring and Nicko is having family problems. She said either this tour or next tour will be the last
@@wolowizard4441 i doubt that this lady is right people lie about all things i dont think iron maiden are tired of touring they have the thrill of doing it. I think this lady is completely wrong you cant always believe what you hear or being told. No they will still tour until the end its like steve said they do so much touring because they dont know how much more they got left in the band.
The problem was Nicko... Hes falling out of time every other measure, hes missing crashes, and the accents were all wrong. Steve is playing cotrectly, but both Adrian and Nicko are playing sixteenth notes. If the drummer is the one who is off in that scenario, it makes the guitar impossible and crappy sounding.
@@blainethemono19 Yeah, the problem was nicko. Because he couldn't hear the other guys. As I wrote above, prague night 1 there were also some problems. With Steve as well. Second night was way better.
@@mrcoatsworth429 Gotcha, the drummer drives the bus, but it could have been an off night. Obviously it's everybody's individual choice, but it kills me to see each tour get weaker performance wise.
Apparently Nicko was quite poorly and sick that first night. Ive read hes having cancer treatment and they have been quiet about it. Though i have read this on comments so i don't know if it's rumours. Either way, best of health to them all and best wishes for tour, im seeing them in Birmingham in 3 weeks I can't wait 😁.
Nicko is not having cancer treatment. He recovered from the cancer over a year ago. Nicko just screwed up. No big deal. Refreshing to knows is all live and not tracks like so many bands are doing these days.
@@guitarjunkie7124 glad to know i read it once and have been trying to find out for sure myself. Thanks for the reply. Just hope they all healthy. I don't care about the hiccups in playing live, just shows they are actually live and still sound fantastic. Not like some of these bands playing to lip sink and backing tracks, awful lol. Roll on Birmingham wohoo.
Well, considering the age of Nicko ALONE? Didn't he JUST turn like 70 recently? 😬 And the guy IS STILL doin his thing on the drums 🥁.....😮 Lemme tell ya (as a NOW retired 50 yo METAL drummer likewise)...Nicko deserves, to have a couple/few "hiccups" in doing/playing THAT SAME stuff (on the kit) he WAS doin way back in the early-mid 80s after officially joining Maiden (stepping in for the great Clive Burr R.I.P.)..... Simply astonishingly, amazing...IS WHAT IT IS 😏😎🤘🔥🤘
@@srdjansestic8005the drummer always dictates the rythm and the timing. In this part he uses the doubled cimbals to dictate it. Unfortunately Nicko made it slower than the habitual. In fact, everytime I see this song played live is the same thing, they slow dwon6the tempo a lot in this theme.
@@cedriccox8759 Nicko sucks...? Well, "I think?", that for just turning 71 years old and STILL playing drums in Maiden? 🤔. Nicko does NOT suck.....🥁🎶🤘🔥🤘
@@cedriccox8759How do you know it isn’t a band decision. They’re all getting older and some of the riffs can be tough at full speed doing all down strokes.
My son have just started a band and will soon play live. The thing I try to learn him. Never, NEVER look back angry at the drummer if he makes a mistake, or any other member in the band, it looks unproffesional.
@@vikguitarbackingtracks it would be stupid to call them unproffesional. I was talking about that special move. I can understand the reaction, but it dosent look good. Don’t know If you have seen the new clip when Harris falls? He just jump up like nothing happen. If that would have been Danzig he would have started throwing speakers 😅
@@caseD5150he stopped playing because the timing kept getting off. He stopped once and gave a look, then started again with the beat, then it it got off again so he just stopped in frustration. You can hear it immediately
@@caseD5150 wrong! It was all about the wavering tempo. Count along - Nicko messed up badly. He has been really off this tour, unfortunately. I think his age has caught up to him.
It's not Nicko's fault. Adrian came into that solo intro WAY too slow. You can hear Nicko trying to slow the pace to Smith's. As a guitarist, I heard that instantly
Agreed. Everyone adjusts to fit, not sure what happens after that though. Problem is sometimes it's not recoverable, skip the solo and come back in as they were about to.
@@TimRsn ..The drummer is King. It's why a solid drummer is so key live. Most of them go to warp speed and speed everything up. If the singer goes off, you try not to hang him out to dry and go with him if possible, but not to the detriment of the song and the rest of the band. ps... And Adrian is a decades long seasoned pro. He should have easily been able to figure it out and gotten back on track, or just played through it. You don't just stop playing
@@nickjohnson3622 the drummer is not king. It's the responsibilty of all the musicians to keep time. I've been playing in bands for 35+ years. Sometimes things go wrong and there are easy ways to recover, sometimes there aren't.
I remember seeing that they had issues on their first gig of the 2012 tour (Charlotte). I was in Atlanta and headed to the second show. Fortunately, they had it all figured out by then and they sounded like the best metal band in the world.
@@drummer7557 As a guitarist the drummer being off can be the worst thing to go wrong. It's pretty difficult to recover from when it happens during change. The best thing to do is for the drummer to stop, everyone keep going and the drummer to come back. That can be worse for the audience though.
bah... c'est surtout grave pour Adrian, quoi... c'est clair qu'après avoir joué avec Kotzen, il doit plus supporter les errances habituelles de McBrain.
It was the first night if you watch the beginning of the gig Caught somewhere in time Bruce messed up as well he sang the same verse twice missing a whole verse 3 songs in I think Bruce says he couldn't hear the band playing the sound engineer ball's up the whole night
This is why perfectionists can sometimes be the cause of imperfect results. Nobody noticed anything wrong, he just had to have it spot on perfect. It’s live, mistakes happen. That’s why improvisation like Murray and Gers makes them sound amazing when a slip up happens, because they bring it back perfectly and don’t get mad.
Oh Adrian, you're 66 - not 26. Nothing to prove, enjoy the best part of your career - as thousands of fans of all age do every night. Send a smile and a thumbs up to Nicko and that's it...
I think he's got a problem with his ears monitor and did not ear well the drum. We can see him looking at Nicko, maybe, and we can ear that his not in the rhythm, that's why he first stop playing, trying to earing to the band, but still not get in rhythm.
I'm just glad they're rocking songs off that album. In my honest opinion that was one of their best album's!!! Cannot wait to see them hit Phoenix this year. Got my tickets
Granted this is old now, but seeing this for the first time reminds me of Adrian saying this was partly why he left the first time. That he wanted the songs to breathe but they were being played at breakneck speed and he just had enough. Can see it on his face there, it’s his song being fumbled in front of him.
If Adrian is cranky at anyone it’s himself- he dragged the crap out of the timing. Tap your foot during the chorus and see where he comes in, and stays, for the e string part
This song is actually not easy to play...& to see the 5 guys responsible for this masterpiece of a song ACTUALLY botch it (I don't care which one DID & is "at fault") tells us ALOT about this composition. Besides...these guys are in their 70's now...& energy like this becomes harder to maintain.
I went back and watched it again . I’d assume they are running a click track and Nico got off and was trying to find the one. It happens to everyone. But what a brutal spot to have that happen.
Most bands do these days due to pyro and stage production. It doesn't make them less a musician, in fact it keeps it closer to the Album tempo , and of course they have in the studio , you record guitars to a click. Nicko would do rough tracks and then they time it all out in Pro Tools and adjust the click track accordingly.
It wasn’t the tempo, that may have had something to do with it as well, it’s a bit on the slow side. But Nicko only did TWO of the FOUR measures before the drum fill that was supposed to close the end of the bridge leading into Adrian’s solo. He literally cut him off 😂
Listen to the original. The bass comes in with the "melody notes" the 2nd time and the 3rd time is when the drums build up. It's exactly as the original. Adrian was supposed to continue his "melodyline" after the build up. The solo starts a bit later. I've played the song numerous times as a guitar player.🍻
He's not angry just annoyed and his mix on his amps is wrong , anyway for a man in his 60s he's looking great not many blokes still have hair at that Age
Saw them at "MONSTERS OF ROCK" around 1983/84. They give you your moneys worth and can actually play their instruments. No bull shitting, going through the motions just to make a dollar.
WELL NOWADAYS CONSIDERING A LOT OF BANDS USING BACKING TRACKS FOR A FLAWLESS SHOW THESE GUYS ARE THE REAL DEAL AND EVEN THE LEGENDS HAVE OFF MOMENTS BECAUSE WE ARE ALL HUMAN. MONITOR MIX MAY HAVE BEEN BAD.
I've played in bands for years. I don't think this had anything to do with Nicko's timing. I think his monitor or ear piece if he wears one wasn't working and he heard nothing...practically deaf. Stage volume in a venue is horrible. Plus Steve and Dave didn't have an issue. And if Nicko did mess up Adrian is classy enough not to call him out on it. He looked at Nicko to try and get a visual of where he was in the song so he can figure out where he should be in my opinion.
This. Regardless of how Nicko is all over the place, these guys rehearse and tour together for decades now. They basically gotten old together so every one of them must be very familiar with each others potential shortcomings at this stage of their careers. They are far too great musicians to stop playing completely just because one of the band member keeps missing time. That is most likely a technical issue, I can't think anything else that would make him STOP playing completely. A musician like them would only stop if they cannot hear what's being played or that their instrument somehow became totally unplayable (which would be replaced rather quickly by the tech guys). Plus, Lars never caused Kirk to stop playing for four decades now lol
Oh damn..."H" was upset about the sudden drop in tempo! There have been a lot of comments about Nicko slowing down on this tour. Once your timing is thrown off, it's tough to recover. Adrian's solos are very meticulous and he rarely strays from what he laid down in the studio. Nevertheless, UP THE IRONS!
*Adrian getting pissed at Niko, Steve getting pissed at Bruce... Who's finally gonna get pissed at Janic for prancing around on stage? Just saying...* ( *And yes, I'm aware that I misspelled a few names...* )
@@cockers6682He was Adrian's guitar tech and a very good friend of the band who had been with them forever when Adrian left. When he returned I just don't think they had the heart to kick Janick out again. That being said, I don't like Janick much either. If you watch him onstage, he really doesn't actually play much.
Hey cmon it's live, shit happens, just being there with all like minded metalheads and enjoying the band is what it's about .. Have a great day everyone 👍
I’ve been drumming professionally for over 46 years. I’ve met Niko, talked “shop.” I’ve been to his restaurant numerous times. He is a great guy, However, he is in his 70’s and is dealing with health issues. As a band brother, Adrian should work as best he can with Niko. This GREAT band has nothing left to prove ! An “off night,” perhaps.., but how many “ON nights” have these blokes had since 1976 ? They’ll be playing in to their graves.., so “hats off to ‘em ‘“ .., Oh, and don’t be such a “Fuckin’ Pri Madonna” Adrian !!!
@randy6999 I am not new to maiden I've been listening to them for 34 years, I didn't put them down either, there's just no point throwing a hissy fit when stuff like that happens to just on with the job as best you can.
@@stevenlornie1261 Your an idiot. There human beings. It happens. Those guys are in there 60s and 70s, and play a high energy 2& half hour show. With maybe one mistake? That’s awesome!
You can hear the drums dragging too slow! If it's made by man, it will fail by man. It's still one of my all-time favorites for almost 40 years! Rock on Eddie!!! I love Maiden! See you in August in California for 3 days of the best! Power Trip baby!!!🎉🎉
Nicko is slowing down and speeding up so drastically. I saw Maiden less than a year ago live and Nicko played aces high so slow that made Bruce Dickinson skip the beat 😢
The guy's over 70 playing drums for a heavy metal band people are gonna need to adjust their expectations a 2 hour set of complex and fast paced music is a challenge for a guy half his age.
Nicko is all over the place... the kick lands in the wrong spot. Plus the tempo on the main riff slows down whenever the go to it. They've been playing it this way for years, for some weird reason.
Só entendi o motivo do Adrian ter parado após eu pegar a guitarra e tocar junto com ele. Acabei tendo a mesma reação rs. O Nicko acabou acelerando a virada, deixou ela mais curta, então o Adrian não pode encaixar todas as notas da melodia de forma correta.
Its Nicko. Hes dragging the beat so much thats it's impossible for anyone playing to keep it together. Nicko's studio work has also been "very loose" for a good 18 years. I truly think that Steve is very loyal to Nicko and Dave, he wont have his mate kicked out .. its up to Nicko to call it quits. Steve wont make him quit because Nickos been tight with Steve since 1983.
Yeah, for what I've watched of this tour, seems they have some issues with some songs parts, specially those from the SIT era, because of Nicko. The drumer is the one who "drives" the band after all🤷♂️...so Neil Peart was right👍
@@scottblack9213 yeah, i agree. These guys are far too good and have been doing this for a very long time. Getting lost in a song and off time is unimaginable for Maiden. These guys don't commit rookie mistakes. I hate to say this, but they'd best find a repacement for Nicco quick. He has the most physical job and he's been a warrior in this band since Piece of Mind but i truly feel something is up with him
