thank you for writing this. my two dogs ran away on June 17th, and July 3rd they were found dead in a culvert. I have had a hard time accepting their absence and letting myself grieve. but maybe ill start allowing myself to grieve now

I think she plays Em to Gm in the chorus (the only time she does so), and I'm utterly fascinated by the amount of emotion she rings out of her voice and that one delicate change. It's so subtle but it carries through the rest of the song and long after. Simply sublime.

Words can't describe how much I love Lenker.She's a real artist,poet,singer and most of all a true free beautiful spirit. Over the last year of my life, this song has become my favorite of Adrianne Lenkers. The idea of emptiness being something horrible and undesirable is so cruel to maintaining peace in your life. The 5 chord is made minor so that its resolution to the 4 is more satisfying. But that's just a theoretical explanation. Why notes and their relations make us feel anything is a tough and mysterious question that I think anyone would be hard pressed to give a good answer to.
