Pastor Joel made a big mistake. He had the audacity to explain his view on baptism with ‪@ADRobles‬ Robles on the show. Of course, the Presbyterian takes the opportunity to poke a little fun at the Baptist. Subscribe to our RU-vid channel for more content like this!

If you live in the Austin area, Pastor Joel just started planting a brand new church called Covenant Bible Church in Hutto, Texas. He would love for you to come visit on a Sunday. Check out the church’s website for details: covenantbible.org/

Our church "sprinkles" and "dunks" both for baptism. We are half reformed Baptist, half reformed Presbyterian, and the type of baptism all depends upon what the new Christian desires. We have enemies at our gates, and this is not the time to be fidgeting about this issue. The key is to be able to stand up to the gates of hell so you won't back down. As paraphrased from Tom Petty. And by the way, I love Doug Wilson and James White equally as well as the two of you: Anthony Robles, Joel Webbon. All for one, and one for all.

Many Christian denominations teach similar heretical teachings to that of the Catholic Church, yet we do not have the same reaction to their validity to baptize. Let’s not forget that much of our Christian history and heritage is traced through the Catholic Church. I agree that a trinitarian baptism is sufficient in that it is all the scriptures required.

I was baptized as an infant in the Episcopal church 60 years ago back when it was probably more conservative than most churches are today, but I still spent my first 42 years in enmity toward Christ, so I don't consider that or my confirmation 10 years later as effective. But I also believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and experienced that at age 42 when I gave my life to Christ, and I sure wasn't in a church when that happened, praise God!

I am stunned right now. I am trying to understand how simultaneously people should leave that church, but the baptism is valid. How can a valid baptism occur in a church that doesnt preach the gospel? That prays to Mary? That venerates the pope? I need someone to explain this to me please. Basically that means a valid baptism can occur in any place by any one.

He really meant that a church that isn’t meeting because of Covid at this point isn’t a church you can trust. However, baptism done unto the Triune God are legitimate, regardless of the state of the church. Baptism itself really comes down to one’s interpretation of scripture and it’s something that unarguable should be done, by the way in which they are done there is room for much debate. The important thing is to have stance and not sit idle about it. If you believe in believers baptism and were baptized post conversion, as long as it was done unto the Triune God, there is no need to be rebaptized no matter the state of that church (as long as they aren’t outright cults or false religions like Mormonism, JWs, Universalist, etc) If it was done when you were a baby or young child before conversion and your conviction is that it should be done post conversion, then I would council towards rebaptisim.

Baptism is a sign of God's promises to His people. Any man or institution which administers baptism is to one degree or another lacking in faithfulness but God is faithful regardless.

Well done, Pastor Joel. Love AD as well, but I gotta go with 1689 on this one (and everything). Though I could certainly attend a Presbyterian church.

Agreed. I’m 1689, but I could happily belong in membership to a Presbyterian church, so long as the pastor had a spine.

So I was raised Church of Christ (not the cult sect) and I was baptized at 13 by our preacher in his home outdoor jacuzzi/hot tub with just my family and his wife as witnesses...do I need to be rebaptized? I've never heard of not being able to be baptized in a smaller setting. I even remember asking my dad at the time...what would a man in the desert do if he wanted to be baptized but there was no one around and no water. My dad, in what I feel was his best understanding and knowledge at the time, said the man could pour sand over his head and baptize himself. 🤷‍♀️
@lkae4
@lkae4 2 года назад
You're fine. He said small settings without church leadership, like parents baptizing their kids in lockdown. Your dad's comment is highly questionable. I've never heard of anyone self-baptizing with sand.

let's take it out of the catholic church...let's say one is baptized as a teen in a heretical church like Bethel and then the believer leaves that church because they realize they need to get into an orthodox church, what then? is the baptism invalid? it really is an honest question. I was baptized once (in a charismatic church) when I was not yet a believer but then again after I was and was convicted about it. I don't want to side with Joel just because that was my experience but with baptism being the sign of the New Covenant, I'm not sure how I can't not side with him.

I’m Reformed Presbyterian and I lean way more with Joel’s take on this. I’d like to understand why AD and Doug think it’s legitimate though because I respect their opinions. I do have a hard time understanding how it could be legitimate if the Catholic “church” isn’t part of the true Church even though some Catholics are…. I’m open to having a wrong understanding but again, my gut sides with Joel even though I’m presby.

@@RightResponseMinistries To me, and I could be wrong, the baptism issue (though I am strong in my Baptist roots) is minor. Presbyterians have a valid reason for pedobaptism. I just prefer the Baptist. Small request: If you could ever do a video on the differences between historical and modern Baptist and Presbyterian, that would be a Christmas wish come true.
@RightResponseMinistries

@@jakeabbatacola5092 I could do a video like that regarding Baptists, historic and modern. But someone else would have to do it for Presbyterians.

@@RightResponseMinistries It would be interesting to hear your take/summary on the the Baptist denomination, and it’s strengths and pitfalls. While I agree with the tenants of the Baptist, I feel like a lot of “Baptist sentiments” have been twisted and exploited into what is now the modern evangelical megachurch in America. What I know of traditional Presbyterianism I like, though I’ve heard the PCUSA has gone liberal. That was the reason for my “comparison request.” Obviously, don’t let me dictate what your content. Keep up the good work.

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (Old School), the main Presbyterian Church in the USA in 1845 ruled that Papist (Roman Catholic) water ceremonies are not baptisms. Joel is right about baptism being an act of the church. If the Mass is not the sacrament of the Lord's Supper then their "baptism" so called is not the sacrament of Baptism.
@RightResponseMinistries

So are you saying the a christan baptism and yes that includes the Catholic Church, has no efficacy in the past, present, or the future? More power to Doug Wilson I say!
@danielwarton5343
@danielwarton5343 2 года назад
How can a baptism in a Roman Catholic church count if Roman Catholics aren’t saved? This reminds me of what John MacArthur and R.C Sproul fought to maintain decades ago. The evangelical church wanted to accept Catholics in and declared they had just increased the number of the redeemed by millions. If you’re baptised as a Catholic and hold to their doctrines then you’re not saved. It’s not the agent but the heart of the believer and wether they’ve come to a right understanding of the gospel of Christ.

Problem with AD and Wilson’s position is that they both, clearly do not take into account the Roman Catholic church’s stance regarding baptism! This is from their literature … sacrament’s definition “Infant Baptism has been practiced since apostolic times. Infants need to be baptized because through this Sacrament, they are freed from Original Sin and are welcomed into the community of the Church, where they have access to the fullness of the means of salvation.” Absolutely no Protestant should affirm that position! Basically their position is affirming baptismal regeneration and a non- repentant, non- faith based form of salvation! We can play “ lovey dovey “ with this but it is heresy!
@mkshffr4936
@mkshffr4936 3 месяца назад
Presbyterians do not affirm the RC position. Covenant Baptism as practiced by Presbys is not baptismal regeneration. As to acceptance of the baptism we accept Baptist baptism even though their theology of baptism is wrong.
