Just passed the two year mark! I started lessons at 23 and have been recording my progress ever since. I've been learning mostly Irish music and styles but you might see from a few of the tunes in this video that I'm also building a repertoire of Welsh music too!
Let me know what you think!
Also shout out to my teacher Cath at www.cathjames.com. If you're based in Sheffield and thinking of learning, she's the best there is!

Amazing progress! I started fiddle lessons 4 years ago and have not made a fraction of your achievement, but then I should have started before the age of 70 ! Excellent Banish Misfortune, one of my favourites. 🎶🎻🎶

What an exciting video. I started a couple of months ago after I inherited a handmade violin from a great great uncle. I've seen progress, and am inspired to keep pushing seeing just how much progress can be made in 2 years!

He is good isn’t he my teacher who graduated from the royal college of music London said she was absolutely amazed, and that it was the kind off playing you would expect after eight. To ten years constant practice of two hours a day, got to hand it to him.

Helo Rhodri. What did you do / play as daily 'warm up' or to build technique (well, besides the blindfolded bowing and learning tunes) ? Any particular books, resources, scales, etudes, etc. that your teacher recommended?

This is awesome! I really want to learn how to play traditional irish music on the violin. How have you been taught? Online, in person, by yourself? Also, do you have the sheet music for Cock of the North? I really like your version!

@Rhodri I am amazed how you play the fiddle in 2 years. Did you learned it all by yourself? Or where did you found your resources? Your video is a good motivator I think

Thanks! I had (still have) a teacher which helped get rid of any bad habits and keep me motivated, deffo recommend getting a teacher if you're gonna start learning

@@RhodriMcDonagh thanks for your information. I also will look for a teacher. Probably the best solution. Can I ask you how many hours per day you practiced?
@RhodriMcDonagh
@RhodriMcDonagh 4 года назад
@@hmbelgium good thinking, at the start i practiced at least 20 mins to an hour each day, sometimes longer if i had time. The trick is to have a consistent, focused practice each day. If you focus properly, 20 - 30 mins can be enough

Makes me feel very inadequate, I started trying to learn violin august 2022 and I am not anywhere near good/confident enough to play even close to somewhere public!

How many hours a day do you practice, it’s obviously over 4 or 5, just interested because I can’t keep going for that long
@RhodriMcDonagh
@RhodriMcDonagh 4 года назад
At the beginning it was about an hour sometimes two, however long i could afford. Currently its about an hour on top of playing in sessions and that. But its not so much how long you practice but what you do in that time that counts
