@@unknownalien5424 It started out great but I seem to be in a slump. I practice every day but don't seem to be getting any better. Intonation is a B@#$%
@@webadage ahh I can feel you. 😅 I picked up a guitar a year ago but couldn't give much into it. Finally gave up and sold my guitar. Now I'm planning to pick up ukulele (2 less strings is what I'm thinking 😂). And belated Happy Birthday to you. 🎉
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I am 67 years old and I am waiting for a delivery of my first violin. I have played a guitar for many years and always loved the sound of violin and viola. I hope to someday be able to play from the heart.
I'm getting my violin tomorrow and can't wait!! My problem is, I'm probably going to set myself up for failure, and I know this lol. You see, I'm going to jump in and try to learn a song straight away. Growing up, I've always just jumped straight into new skills without the baby steps at the beginning and its always worked out. Painting and charcoal drawings especially. I even learned a few songs on the piano without actually being able to read music or even know what notes I was playing! haha, the baby steps bore me. I doubt I'll be able to play the violin without them though :(
Hi, going through those baby steps first will help you a lot when you move on to a higher level. And if you practice a lot, you will progress fast and you shouldn't get bored because you often learn something new. Putting stickers on it and trying to play a song straight away might feel cool at first, but soon after, you'd realize you miss the technique to make it sound nice, and to move on. My advice is to buy a violin lesson book and work that through. And play only open string exercises for the first month. That's already challenging enough to keep you busy for a few weeks. Good luck and happy playing!
It's so inspiring that you never stoped dreaming and you started playing violin being adult. Never stop playing! I'm gonna start playing violin for my 12th birthday. I'm playing ukulele and I hope it's gonna help me just a little. Never give up and do what you love!
Aye, I'm also a ukulele player interested in playing violin! I'm nearly 17, and I'm going to rent one for a month and see how I like it. I hope you've been playing and having fun! :)
This type of progession videos is really important for me to maintain my motivation to keep practising, lmao I always wanna give up and think that Im never gonna be able to play the piece well
Hi! I'm a thirteen year old violin player, going for grade 5 this year. Just wanted to take the time to applaud your hard work and commitment to learning such a wonderful instrument. :)) I hope you still continue playing!!
That is so sweet of you, thank you!! Great you already came this far in your playing, it makes me a bit jealous, haha. I definitely want to continue playing, it is hard but very rewarding. 😁
Oh, don't worry bout it! I actually quit playing once, but seeing videos like yours helped motivate me once more. It's because of people like you I'm even this far ahead. :)) I wish you well in playing! It's hard, but it'll definitely be worth it, trust me.
Wow, that's awesome! And if you practice often, almost daily, you'll be amazed by what you have achieved in one year from now. I don't see my progress as incredibly fast, this is what happens when you totally go for it. Good luck and most of all: have fun!
My friend gave me her violin cause she wasn’t using it anymore, and man am I struggling 😂 I don’t know why, but whenever I put any of my fingers into the string to play a higher note, it gets all scratchy, or, not a lot of sound is coming out. It plays fine when I play open strings or place my fingers at the lowest points. But anyways this gave me a lot of hope and motivation. You sound so good. It also made me realize that I need to start slower and not try using my fingers just yet, cause I’m definitely not ready. I’m 15, and I thought I started really late, but seeing you and how much you’ve improved has helped me to stop thinking that. You’ll be amazing a year from now. Good luck!
No problem, this video still inspires people. 🙂 It's important to learn to bow the strings first, and then to gradually place the fingers. If you want to give it a serious try, make sure to get a lesson book for beginners and work it through. You'll be amazed how fast you can progress if you spend a little time on it every day. 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to make your videos! I'm also an adult beginner and have watched heaps of tutorials. What I found informative for me is seeing you progress and watching your technique change to produce better sounds. I'm off to watch your next video! :))
Thanks! Yes, watching a progress video is very informative, I did the same when I just started to see what I could expect. I started making this video to see my progress and to give others some insight, but didn't expect it would be watched so much! I love making videos, so 3 or 4 videos later (and even getting subscribers) I decided to give RU-vid a serious go, with regular uploads. It's motivating, and the kind comments make my day every time I read them! 😃
this video gives me hope. Im a teenager and i started learning the violin 3 weeks ago..The first place that i went to said that i was too old to be learning the violin :( but luckily i found a new teacher..he said that i was a quick learner which really kept me going.
Hey, that is so awesome! Remember you're never too old to learn (almost) anything. If you set your mind to it, you can! So keep practicing as often as you can and you will definitely make great progress! By the way, adults can learn faster than children, according to my teacher I'm the living proof of that. 😂 So keep it up! 💪
Sergeant you are absolutely correct!!! I started violin at the age of 14 and left it at the age of 16. After 30 years of gap, I returned to violin again and this time I find my progress is amazing!!.I am doing a scratchy vibrato within one month!!
Your fourth finger is flat, rotate in your wrist and fingers towards the fingerboard so you can have more reach, also the elbow must have a different level depending on the string you’re playing on. Good luck with your studying!!
I've watched several progress videos, and yours is the one I can relate and be hopeful the most, now that I just started playing the violin (bought it last week, been practising for 8 days now). It sure feels (and, compare to other instruments, is) slow as the beginner who just want to produce wonderful sounds and melodies, but, with each session just playing open strings, you feel the progress, and I'm looking forward for the next few weeks and months. Step by step. Thanks for sharing!
Oh I LOVE how you started out just learning the strings for such a long time to get that control.. You had played for 3 months in this video and you had already surpassed m playing for almost 2 years now. But then again I never had a teacher. Can't wait to hear more from you!
Hey there! Yes, playing on just open strings for a good few weeks is really needed to gain good control. Luckily, I was prepared for this before I started, so I wasn't disappointed by that. But I didn't expect to be using my left hand fingers after 4 weeks already. Learning the violin without a teacher seems very daunting to me. I'm always quite in awe when people learn on their own and keep up with it, because I think I would be lost without the guidance and structure. I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to more videos! I'm planning to upload a new video every 2 weeks. ☺
Marijke - thank you for sharing your videos. I'm an adult beginner too at 63 years! Been learning 5 months now. I would say - first 3 months are TOUGH: your arms ache, you sound dreadful, you are constantly catching other strings, and your intonation is bad! BUT... things get easier, and you start sounding better. Then when you look back at your earlier pieces, you find they are not as hard as you thought ( - means you ARE progressing!) Practice is the key, and focussed practice is what opens doors to better playing. One exercise I find a great help is to do long single notes on each string. This really helps with string crossing when you play pieces.
Wow, I find it so brave of you to start at the age of 63! Indeed, practice will make you get better. And luckily things get easier, and that means you're ready to get a step up. Hold on to it, the best is yet to come!
You're a really fast learner its impressive!! My own violin is arriving today, Im 18 years old and hope to make the same good progression as you did :) 🎻
Marijke plays I just got the string fixed today and the guy even tuned it for me! Hopefully tomorrow I'm going to start learning from Allison the Online Piano and Violin Tutor. I'm so excited!!!
thank you for sharing your video , I am 42 this year ,just got my old violin repair , and I am going to start to learn from zero, after 23 years. tHANK YOU !!!
I was thinking about learning the violin now. I tried when I was a kid but didn't make much progress. Thank you for sharing, I just remembered how hard it is to make it sound good. I think I will stick to the piano for now :) But you did great for just 3-month practicing, and I bet you are playing it really well now in 2019.
Wow! This is inspirational. :) It definitely makes it seem very doable with practice. I too have dreamed of playing for quite some time, and am currently researching violins and whatnot. I really enjoyed watching! Your sound is lovely!
Thank you! And yes, it is very doable if you put in the effort. I've heard the Stentor 2 is a very good starter violin. If you get started, it is best to take lessons, I hope that is possible for you. ☺
Hello! My Mam gave me her violin that she had when she was about 16, I've been learning for about 3 months now, I'm 12! I'm also getting lessons really soon! I'm so excited! (By the way you're really beautiful and your progress is amazing, you really inspire me to keep going with the violin even at times when I feel like giving up)
I think that would be harder. In the first weeks, I held the violin at the body to focus completely on bowing. After that, switching to playing with fingers actually wasn't that hard.
amazing ! i am 18 and just started learning violin , i felt ashamed because i am too big to start now also in my class them all are kids :c but watching your video make me feel encouraged ! I'll keep going ~ guys wish me luck ♡
Crisbeth fernandez garma.. I too started at my 18.. (ie.. This yr.) I cant wait to play famous songs. With violin. I also thought that I started It too late.. Its gud to see many like that..
Omg, it sounds very good! Your progress is incredible. And I also really like how your body moves while you're playing - it makes you look like a pro 😎
It was a nice violin. I am renting a different one now though, I grew out of this one (skillwise) snd the one I have now is better. It's also very loud and powerful, sometimes I doubt whether I like that or not. But it's a rental, so I don't mind. ☺
All I know is that the Stentor 2 is a really good starter violin, it's €250 or so. Or take a look at the videos of The Online Piano and Violin Tutor, there are violin review videos as well
I'm 21 yrs old, and I've just started to play violin for 5 days. Worse part is that I'm self taught! Lol. Thank you so much for sharing this video! I can learn how to have a more organized schedule in practicing. Seriously, thank you!
Wow, this was actually very inspiring, thank you for sharing with us! It's comforting to be able to have a realistic gauge of what the progress would look like if someone wanted to start today. Congrats on your progress, I now want to pick up a violin!
Love your channel, Marijke! I just bought my first violin (Yamaha sv 200), after dreaming with playing this instrument since childhood (I'm almost 28 years old right now D:). I will continue watching your videos to remember that, with practice, I will be able to do it. Thank you so much :)
Awesome! It was my childhood dream as well to play the violin. And yes, with practice comes progress. I'm happy my videos are encouraging you. 🙂 If possible, get a violin teacher. That's always the best way to go. Anyway, I hope you'll love it. Have fun! 😀
That is so great! It's an amazing journey, so definitely go for it! I hope you will like my second progress video as well, it's up within half an hour.
I'm learning violin at the age of 52 and am really enjoying the experience. There is no charge for anything. But you are an inspiration to the noobie violinists from around the world. So, thanks for sharing your experiences and learning ... PS: Saw your video in 2020 ... ;)
Lol, I needed to see this! Recently I just treated my self to a violin to learn to,play some bluegrass fiddle tunes, I had studied classical playing bass in an orchestra. Violin is very different, hahahaha ha ! I'm making my way through the screeches, the messy bowing and horrible finger positions! It's a labor of love no seeing your videos just let me know I'm on the right path and progressing nicely and quicker than I thought. Thanks for the inspiration ✨👍🏻✨
Omg, you remind me of when I was younger and was inspired by the violin. I've been playing it for five years, this year counting and I still haven't been able to master it. While watching this, you actually gave me hope again and all the other videos I watched. Also, seeing you play through week after week shocked me of how much better you played than me when I was first starting out. So, thanks... I guess. For giving me more aspiration to play the violin. ❤️
Hi, mastering the violin probably takes 20 years or so. As long as you're making progress, you're doing great. I don't compare myself to people who master it, I just think about my progress, so I feel like I'm on the right way to mastering it. And that gives a lot of satisfaction. ☺ Keep on playing and enjoy it!
Wow! I've been thinking to learn violin but I wasn't confident enough to take violin class because of my age hehe After I watched your videos, I've built my confidence to learn violin from now on or I'll regret it later! Thank you for your inspiring and encouraging videos! Keep it up!
ReallyRillia B That is SO awesome! Ofcourse it's not easy (no instrument really is easy to learn), but with consistent practice, you can learn anything you want. I'm very happy my videos are encouraging people, and comments like yours motivate me to keep going. 😊 Go for it! And if you don't stick with it, you can at least say you've tried!
Im 36, and gonna be at week 12 next week :) if you want you can do it, all you need is passion. I was really scared when bought my violin, that it will last only a couple of weeks, but no. Every week im more in love with it. Most important: practice every day, i do at least an hour, but normally 2 hours, and i feel that goes quick.
I totally feel you! I was afraid I would stick with it for 3-4 months. Luckily that didn't happen! And yes, if you put in a lot of time, the results will follow. Keep it up!
Your progress is so ridiculous! You're a natural! Keep up the consistent, thoughtful practice! You have a lot of potential! Let me know if you ever have any questions :)
ThatViolaKid Wow, thank you for that great compliment! It really makes my day! Besides, I really like your #PlayHomiePlay on Instagram. Great how you create a stage for everyone around the world! Do you feature other musicians on RU-vid as well?
Marijke plays I haven't really considered featuring people on RU-vid! Maybe that's something I can work towards in the future. I don't have NEARLY as much clout on here as I do Instagram, so I'll focus on building my platform here before I do any promoting :)
ThatViolaKid Good luck with everything you do! Your Instagram is indeed booming! I'll join the PlayHomiePlay hashtag thing, because I love it. And I have put you in the spotlights on my Instagram (marijke.creates) because of your great compliment. I felt you deserve it, you inspire people, including me. ☺
Dazzieboi87 How have your lessons gone so far? I’m 33 and although I’ve had a violin since 2012 and taught myself a tiny bit, I finally just started lessons last month (I’m still very much a beginner).
@@CherishedPlaytime no not started them yet got a few things to pay for before i get a violin and i need to find a teacher also, i will be using this channel to help myself :)
Very good job! Great video! :) I'm 38 and bought my first violin in March of this year, between multiple jobs and going to school full time I have zero time to practice. But since I'm not dead I won't give up. :) I will get there. I really like Lindsey Sterling a lot and Allison Sparrow is an excellent teacher. I really like her videos a lot as well. Keep up the good work! :)
William Matthews That is fantastic! I hope you do find time to practice, otherwise I fear for a very frustrating experience with the violin. If you put time in it, it is very rewarding and gives immense joy. I wish you a very happy time playing! And my next progress video is up half November, if you're curious. ☺
To be honest with you, and myself, my schedule will probably not subside much until I finish school and get a better paying job so I only have ONE job. :) So it may actually take a year or two before I can practice like I want. But again, as long as God gives me breath I won't give up. I also got an electric guitar in March and I want to learn how to play that and the piano as well! :) So in 10 years I will go in concert and play all three and sell a million tickets! :) You can have one for free though! :) And yes I look forward to seeing your next video! :)
Feels like my current journey on violin. I have no violin teacher to fine tune the basics so it's pretty much self taught (but I play like 9 other instruments already which is why I'm testing unchartered waters here without guidance) but it's still inspiring to see your progress in this video and I'll stick to it! (Same with cello simultaneously). The adventure is thrilling. (Sorry neighbours but not sorry 😅)
Anthony Heath I think you learn faster than the others if you're really interested to it. It's my 2.5 months now, and I know how to do the vibrato. I teach myself by watching youtube videos violin techniques: bowing, vibrato, etc. Well, at first I thought it was so simple. Today is my 5th day to learn the vibrato and it really hurts my shoulder and neck. Very difficult! So, I'm just thinking that if there's no pain, no gain.😍😍😍😄
People who learn by themselves often rush into learning vibrato and it can really ruin your technique. I think 2.5 months is way too early to start with it. Are you watching The Online Piano and Violin Tutor? (almost all self-learners do). She also advices strongly against learning vibrato too soon. To keep it short: don't start with it until you play for a year. There's so much to work on in that first year. I'm kinda inpatient and want to learn vibrato as well, but my teacher knows when I'm ready and will teach it me the good way.
Marijke plays To the piano, I had a tutor only for two months. That was 15 years ago, then I studied by myself. I 'm not that good at playing piano. I learn violin like 5 hours a day. Even before bedtime, I practice doing the vibrato without a bow while lying in my bed. Even at work , I always bring my violin and play it afterwork at the last floor of the building where my classroom is located. Only me can hear it. That's because I learn that fast. I always spend time to it. Seriously, I don't go out on weekends coz I always spend it with my violin. Im going crazy if I don't learn for a day. 😄😄😄 I need to be in a hurry though coz I teach piano and my target is to teach violin after 2 years of playing and learning it by myself. I bought some books too for violin lessons.
Great video! Adult beginner here too, almost coming up to 4 years. Finding a comfortable efficient left hand/finger position that suits your physiology is the key. And the same with your bow hold, and with supporting the violin. There is heaps to learn so enjoy the journey, you will find it very rewarding, and at times frustrating. I hope you will be just as enthusiastic in 4 yrs as I am now.
Not gonna lie, you have a better teacher than I do. Mine's a really nice guy but he taught me how to basically hold the bow and the violin, and a two second tutorial on rosin before going straight into songs. I think exercises like what you seem to be doing may have helped me improve my sound a lot quicker. I'll try those. (I also have tape for my fingers for 3 placements on each string. Not a bad thing I guess. I just need to improve muscle memory without depending on them)
Exercises are key to building good technical skills, so maybe you can buy a lesson book? Those are usually full of both songs and exercises. Tapes should be (very) temporary, if you know what sound it should be, you can place your fingers in the right place by both muscle memory and listening. Good luck!
Marijke plays Yeah. I'm working on placing my fingers while looking away from it so I can train my ears to listen for the right note. I guess I try to use the tap more as a double check if I'm not completely sure. I'll look into a book. I'm into a ton of rather expensive hobbies right now so I'll try to get one if I can. Do you have any suggestions for maybe a younger violin player? Or I could do a normal one since I'm confident in my ability to read notes. I play saxophone in band for school too so I got a head start lol. P.S. I doubt this at all matters but I'm 12 and I think I started 3-4 months ago? Not sure.
I'm 24 and I'll have my first violin lesson next week! I've always wanted to learn, and I finally decided not to waste any more time. I already play piano, so this should be useful, but watching you is really encouraging! Thanks for your example!
There just comes a moment when you quit dreaming and start doing. Your musical experience with piano will be helpful, so the only thing that could get in your way is you. So go for it, it takes hard work, but it's very rewarding! And I'm very happy my video encourages you!
Marijke plays so, I've been playing for one and a half month now, and you know what? I LOVE it. Practicing is quite addictive. Just open strings for me at the moment, but I've been learning different bow techniques. It depends on the method you teacher decides to follow, I suppose. (My teacher gives me some additional variations to the original exercises in the book I use.) But I noticed it helps a lot for the bow hold, so I don't complain. I'm thrilled and excited because, finally, I'm doing something I really enjoy. I was a bit scared at the beginning, you know, for the age and all those preconceptions. But I'm glad I gave it a chance. As I said, your example really encouraged me, as well as many others. So thank you! Keep it up! :)
Was that really just 3 months? Watching the Week 4 part sounds like you've been playing for more that a month. I love how you shift as it goes on. Just wow. When I first played my violin, it was a rushed decision (I just tagged along because my teacher offered to teach me at that time because we have to play for an intermission at a seminar) and the first song I learned is 'Restless is my Heart.' I learned that song in 5 days. So, basically, I turned that beautiful song in to screeching noises. I really can't believe how good you are! 💓 I have my Violin for about 2 years now but I can't even play properly and I stopped because I thought I'm too old (15 y/o) to learn it (it's rare to find someone who plays the Violin here at my place) So Kudos for you! I was actually inspired by this to continue learning how to play again. I wish I can play like you soon!
A music store is closing in the town I live in and they have a few violins for sale 50% off.I've always wanted to learn. I play the guitar now 56 years now off and on. (I'm 67)Anyway, my roommate told me there is no way he could put up with my beginners sound lol so I guess I won't be taking advantage of the sale. I even thought about practicing in my car lol of course in nice weather I could practice outdoors but I guess ill put an end to my dream and put that time in more guitar practice. I wish I had started at age 6 or so!
Well, if it really has a grip on you, it would be a shame not to at least try it. Everyone sounds scratchy in the beginning, but you will progress quite fast if you practice regularly. It would be a pity if you'd never have a go at it, I think. 🙂
Tim Hitt Tim, I’m 67 and a beginner. Having a blast!! I don’t practice with my wife at home... It is amazing how quickly you get past the “scratchy, awful” stage (for the most part!! I’d say get a fiddle and give it a go. Don’t let yourself regret not doing it. Seriously. And with your guitar experience you’ll get good quickly.
So i´m not the only one dreaming about it for a long time and starting late =) I´m also 26 now and just started playing and your video gave me a lot of hope and motivation. Thank You!
You're definitely not the only one! I'm very happy it motivates you. I go back to my older videos sometimes as well to see how I've grown when I feel progress is slow. Stick to your exercises as often as you can and in a few months you can start practicing your first concerto. 😊
Hi! Very nice video. I am also a beginner at 20 yrs old and have been playing for 3 months, and this video made me realize that I have actually missed or more like I didn't put enough attention to the very basics of violin playing. I can tell that your bowing form is so much better than mine, and I'm still trying to work on it. Thanks for this. I'll keep practicing! :)
Amadeus Burgeois Great you also started playing! Indeed, spending much time on the basics is very important and it really pays off later on. Good luck! My next progress video (4-5-6 months) will be up on my channel by half November.
helloworld Yep I've been at it a month now, 1st position pretty easy, I can make a decent sound, my bowing can wonder off occasionally if I focus too much on the music and hilariously last week I figured out how to do vibrato (just had to modify my guitar technique for it). I totally agree guitar and piano help a lot, I would say guitar helps the most. I'm in it for the long haul now I love it. Can't wait to see where a few years will take it.
Sounds good! Be careful with vibrato though, it needs proper training and can best be done when you got the basics down, which is around 9 months at it's earliest.
It was really good seeing u r progress ... unfortunately i started very lat im 41 now and i know that i'm not gonna make the progress that i need because of my age so t,s really nice to see others progress , at least it gives me hope if i practiced enough i could be a fair player but not a professional one ... but i keep practicing every day for about 3 to 4 hours and my progress is too slow because my age but i'm doing my best and see if i'm going to be able to play fairely in one year ... but ur making progress much better than me ... so keep training harder and longer and u will me able to play nicely n less than a year ,.. congrats
@Doris Clegworthy Hi! I am 66 and have started learning the violin! I am not sure to where I will get, but I just love practicing! I have promised myself that I will be patient with myself...
You inspire me! I mean, you can actually see the progress happening, it's so cool. I will record my progress too, so I won't feel like giving up. Because oh boy, violins are expensive and I'm gonna buy one, so I better learn to make my money worth! hahaha XD I also want to say that your hair is beautiful (in this video and in the more recent ones, simply gorgeous) you beautiful woman! Greetings from Braziil
Hi! Indeed, in a progress video you really see what you've learned! And you can rent a violin too. I still rent it. It costs me only €12 a month. And thanks! In this video my hair has it's natural color, but I like dying it a bit darker to spice it up. 😊
I was incredibly concerned about how you kept on curling your pinky but I see you're getting that under control more!! Amazing job! I'm surprised by how much progress you've made! Well done
I loved watching this progression. You are blessed. I got a violin for Christmas and am 61, I think I'm tooooo old to learn. I'm afraid to pick it up. Blessings
Ofcourse you can learn to play. 🙂 Just starting is sometimes the best thing you can do. And it's nearly 2 months since Christmas, you could have been playing your first song by now. So just start and you'll be making real music in no time. 😁👌
I'm 56 and just got my first violin today. A 15 year old posted above she thought she was starting late. Age is just a number unless we believe we must "act our age". 😀
Just got my first violin, 62 this month. I’ve just done some bowing, tried putting a finger on a string but discovered my nails are still too long after cutting them. Hope you did get the ‘courage’ to start. Good luck!
I liked week 6, that face, it's like that moment when you realize you can make cool sounds on something. Haha. Have a lot of experience with other stringed instruments about 7 years, never any bowed ones though. Have one coming in in about a week and have heard varying stories on the difficulty. A very reassuring video.
Yes! I thought I couldn't play a song in the first year, so I was pleasantly surprised that wasn't the case! It is difficult, but you can see it goes pretty fast if you practice daily. Make sure to get a lesson book. 👍
I Just learn violin in 1 week, and i already play happy birthday. This is so Hard you know. Cause I learn violin by myself, no teacher, no one friend can play violin. Then my teacher is RU-vid. That's how I learn violin, from youtube. 👌👌👌
That makes me really glad! It's an amazing journey, I feel like I'm discovering an entire musical world! The thing with learning music is that it's kinda an everything or nothing thing. It takes an almost religiously devotion to really get the results you want. Staying excited is hard at times, it's key to find out how you learn things best. For example: Practice on your peak moments, when your energy level is highest. Practice a piece or technique in small chunks at the time. Work towards many small goals instead of a few big ones. Keep a practice diary: write down your weekly/monthly homework and goals. Get a teacher. Period. As an extra, try to play the music you love by ear and enjoy it to the max. I really hope you will love it!
+Marijke plays That journey really shines through in your video. Thanks again, also for these good tips! I will gladly do all that you mentioned. I've found a good school with decent tuition fees. Couldn't imagine learning the violin without a teacher, as you said. In this video it looks like your teacher heavily influences the structure of what you are practising. I subscribed and look forward to seeing you play more. :)
I'm glad my tips are helpful. In the future, I want to make a video with practice tips. Indeed, my teacher really guides me in what to practice, I would be lost without him. Currently, I'm working on my first concert
That's awesome! Are you getting a teacher? I hope you do, you'll be just fine! And if not: I'd suggest to buy a good beginner's method and work through it, and check out youtube videos as well. And in the first month, play only open strings to get the hang of bowing. How old are you? Not that it matters, anyone can learn this on at least a basic level. 😀
This is awesome. I started playing earlierthis year myself. It is cool to see how different instructors use different methods. keep up the hard work! 💪✊
Don't you feel privileged to be able to spend so many hours on a hobby, simply because you can? I could spend every day hobbying around... Enjoy every step of the way!
Marijke plays Most definitely! Practicing is addictive is an unusual way. Something cool will come on the radio and I'm all of a sudden craving to practice. 😂
I’ve just started learning 2 weeks ago. I think a big part of the quick improvement is spending 4 weeks on open strings. I’m trying this also and being patient before adding left hand
+Axel Brito Hello, thanks for asking. I would strongly recommend to rent a violin first. Here's why: 1: you get a decent quality instrument. 2: for a low price, you can try out if playing the violin is something for you. 3: if there is any trouble or if you want to try a different violin, bow or shoulder rest, you can switch. 4: renting is cheap. I pay €12,- a month. 5: in a year or so, if I'm still eager to play, I return my rental violin and then I buy a good quality violin, with the rental costs as my discount. Most luthiers in The Netherlands offer the discount after renting. This way there's no money wasted and I'm not stuck with a cheap-ass violin I have to sell later on. If renting is no option for you: I've read that the Stentor Student 2 is the best way to go for a beginner, it costs around €200,- and you get a good quality for the price. "The Online Piano and Violin Tutor" has a review video on the Stentor Student 2, you can look it up, here on RU-vid. I hope this answer was helpful to you.
