I have to check out the Terry Brooks books. I loved his Landover series and this sounds similar in some ways.

In the end, he connected all of the series together, including this one, to Shannara, and I kind of which he had not done that, but hey, it's not my choice. Landover was more humorous if I remember, I only read a couple of those. This UF series is more adult, darker and not really funny.

Landover was for sure one of his more humorous one, and a nice twist on the portal fantasy genre@@StephenAryan44

Thanks for this. You reminded me of the knight and the void. I read that trilogy in the early 2000s and had almost forgotten about it. Should be due a reread for me too.

You're welcome. I definitely need to go back and read them!

I had seen the Terry Brooks novels but assumed they were part of Shannara. Just added those and the Felix Castor novels to my TBR. Thanks!

Yeah....so years after the fact, he sort of connected them, but I read them before he announced this, so it's fine. Just read them as a modern UF series and it works. Yes, the Castor books are good, dark and disturbing! Have you read any of Carey's other books?

@@StephenAryan44 Not yet, but I own the first Koli book, The Girl with All the Gifts, and have Infinity Gate on my TBR. Looks like he is incredibly prolific. Hopefully I can start a title soon, as the Castor novels just jumped up my TBR. The constant, yet welcome problem of "too many books, not enough time"!

He's written a lot of different books. Very prolific in books and comics, as he did Lucifer for years, as well as Constantine for DC comics plus creator own books too.

How are you with Audio Dramas? My personal urban fantasy series is a series called Pilgrim, which was a long running radio drama on Radio 4. I absolutely loved it, and I thought of mentioning this due to you reminding me of Running With The Demon. I had totally gorgot about this series and will have to go back to it at some point. Also, kudos for the Felix Castor series. Love that series.

Not great. I can't manage audiobooks either. Never heard of Pilgrim, who wrote it?

@@StephenAryan44 it was written by Sebastian Baczkiewicz and started the great Paul Hilton. It's one of my favourite fantasy series ever. It centres around British folklore and legend.

I’m not much of an urban fantasy girl. The only one that potentially has me interested is The Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko.

I'm exceptionally picky. I've dropped thirty, not because they're necessarily bad, but not to my taste. I dislike the more romancey ones, with a girl with a tattoo above her arse, and a sword, dressed in skimpy clothing and she's a half something, etc. You know the type. Those I have tried and just can't stomach.

@@StephenAryan44 I personally think I store fantasy and romantic fantasy in different parts of my brain. But I also really struggle with the really long paranormal romances that you’re describing down to every repetitive trope. I would say I feel the same about the typical dude bro paranormal investigation style novels as well though for pretty much the same reasons. I think that’s why I can’t bring myself to read Dresden. Especially after what I’ve heard of his female characters being as two dimensional as Ian Flemming’s 😩😅

I don't think they are two dimensional, but that's fine, not every person likes every series.
