You're wrong about the 21st century thing. Everyone turning 17 in 2018 has only ever lived in the 21st century. Everyone turning 18 was born in the very last year of the 20th century/2nd millennium.

@@a.jdeets5527, I mean maybe they use astronomical year number (which converts 1 BC to the mythical year 0) without them even knowing it and that has a year 0. Our calendar system doesn't though so that's why I use stuff like astronomical year numbering and the Holocene calendar which do have a year 0. BUT EVEN THEN I just don't know where are people getting the information that the 21st century started in 2000. It's an ordinal term (1st, 2nd 3rd, etc) not a cardinal term (0, 1, 2, 3, etc) so if you're implying that the 21st century started in 2000 then that means that a 0th century existed and that 21st century would be called the 20th century instead. If you want to say 2000 was in the current century then It's better to say it was in the century of the 2000's (2000-2099 and makes more sense if you used astronomical year numbering with the converted 1 BC) instead of the 21st century because the 21st century (an ordinal term) started in 2001 (on an ordinal year numbering system) and will run up to 2100. 2000 (if you use the converted 1 BC system) started the 2000's and will end in 2099 and it's a cardinal system. We don't use that system in our calendar but in others like the aforementioned modified AD system they do. So yeah if these people are trying to imply that the 21st century started in 2000 they're wrong because it's an ordinal term not a cardinal one. So this means that 2000 carnally (with the added in year 0 on 1 BC) started the 2000's. The 21st century however started in 2001 because again it's an ordinal term and this means that the year 0 is not included in this calendar year numbering system meaning that the 21st century started in 2001 not the year 2000.

Actually anyone born between January 1, 1901 - December 31, 2000 was born in the 20th century so everyone born in the year 2000 was born in the 20th century so all of us who have turned 18 or are going to turn 18 this year were born in the last year of the 20th century!!!!

The "Anyone celebrating their 18th birthday in 2018 has only ever lived in the 21st century" is wrong. 2000 still counts as 20th century. People who are turning 18 in 2018 were born in 2000, so they still lived a year in the 20th century.

I mean he was born in the first year of the 2000's (century). But not the 21st century. The 2000's (century) means 2000-2099 which is a cardinal term (we don't use that in our system and use ordinal years in our year numbering system instead because this system was conceived before 0 became that well known in Europe both the idea of it and a symbol for it. But if we use the modified version of the system which is astronomical year numbering which makes 1 BC the year 0 then it is a cardinal system now). The 21st century however is a ordinal term which is in the system we use which means that it's first year started in 2001 not 2000 because of the how both the calendar system that we use (not the astronomical one) was designed and how ordinal numbers work as well.

@@mrwazowski1015 no it doesn't since the most recently built pyramid was the great pyramid , and it was built some time in 3000 bc (meaning it is about 5000 years old now ) , so even the newest pyramid at giza counts. So literally any one of the three pyramids count in this saying because the smaller ones at giza are even older than the biggest. Cleopatra lived from 69BC to 30 BC, and Ceasar just a little older than that . so their lives were lived nearly 3000 years from the last pyramid being built , while their lives were roughly 1990-2000 years from the moon landing that's a 1000 year difference (towards the time of the moon landing). now if you are talking the Aztec pyarmids that's another story , BUT no one here is talking about the freaking Aztec pyramids . we are all talking about the Egyptian ones which are all 5000 + years old.

Denver Starkey if you are only referring to the main site of pyramids you are correct. Egypt had almost 50 pyramids, the newest being dedicated to ahmose 1 thought to have been built between 1500 to 1290 Bce. So that would be 1570 -1370 years between the construction of the last pyramid and Julias ceaser and cleopatra whilst that time to the invention of the internet would be far longer, probably around 400 more.

But I mean technically 2000 was both the first and last year of the century. The cardinal century (0, 1, 2, 3 etc) which is the 2000's century started in 2000 (we don't use that system however but if you want it to work it makes more sense to convert the year 1 BC in our system to year 0 in another meaning that in a system called astronomical year numbering it's a cardinal system instead of an ordinal one). HOWEVER the century that make sense to all of us and the century that is used in the ordinal (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) way of numbering years, the 20th centuries last year was 2000 because of the way of how both the calendar was made and how ordinal numbers work.

Technically, the 21st century and the 3rd millennium didn't start until 2001. The first century was year 1 to 100. The second century started in 101. The first millennium was year 1 to 1000. The second millennium started in 1001.

But aren't people technically born in any last year of the millennium? I mean 0 to 999 is a millennium and so is 1 to 1000, 2 to 1001, 3 to 1002, 4 to 1003, 5 to 1004, 6 to 1005, 7 to 1006, 8 to 1007, 9 to 1008, 10 to 1009, and so on. Any of those years are a millennium because technically speaking they are all 1,000 years each meaning that a new millennium started in every single year which also means that we're in the 2021 millennium which started in 2021 and will end in 3020.
