I'm glad that Frozen put in Hans character. For decades they had princesses seemingly falling in love with people they just met and getting married. Hans showed how stupid that whole ideal is. If you don't truly know someone, how can you truly trust them.

When I was in art school I remember a wise teacher once said, if you hate the villain of a movie, or they make you feel angry and uncomfortable, then they're doing their job right, that means they are good characters. You dont want your villain to be forgetful and vain, they are an opposite force in the story that's keeps the plot moving.

Agreed with Adam. It'd be one thing to make commentary on how this behavior is unacceptable to be presented in children's media, but the films clearly identify that these are problematic issues because they're portrayed by villains or just terrible people. There's no reason to be up in arms about it in that sense.
@MorbidPastels
@MorbidPastels 3 года назад
I disagree with the same reasoning. The characters were made to be bad and for people to be mad and upset with their actions so naturally they're going to be. Just like how people are made to feel a certain way about side or main characters. It's not bad for others to get mad at a character they're supposed to be mad at.

The Ursula song doesn't promote anything bad. The song is about real life issues that used to be very common. The misconception that women were lower than men and men just needed a quiet housewife. The song is bad because we know it shouldn't be true, but is. She also wanted Ariel's voice so win win. It's the same reason people love/hate Gaston. That's why it's not bad to feel an emotion for a character. It's literally the whole point of stories and movies, to make you feel something for the hero or villains or whatever is happening. That's what hooks people into fandoms and Marvel and DC and others. You like the character and the story. Sometimes you like the villain, like the big Joker blowup. Even though he was a terrible man you felt bad for him or empathized ect.

I didn't get mad at the Ursela one, as she's the villain she's suppose to put her down and it was a ruse to convince Ariel to bargain her voice, at the end she did say "it would only cost your voice" so the beginning was just Ursela trying to poison her thinking since Ariel really wanted feet and was desperate for it that she wouldn't care to lose her voice since it wouldn't matter according to Ursela

Mufas's death always breaks my heart. I'm 33 and I saw this movie with my 9 year old niece (her first time seeing it), and I was in tears and she looked at me like I was a weirdo. I hardly ever cry in front of her and that scene just broke me. I looked at her and was like: how doesn't that not make you cry and she was like ummm it's a cartoon.

Yikes! If I were you, I'd be worried about [for] her emotional health. Yes, it's not real [it's fiction], but it's an emotional scene that should evoke something in people. I don't remember the first time I saw The Lion King, but I would have thought that I would have at least been sad. I cried when I saw Brother Bear, and I was a teen when that came out [note: every time I watched it, which is about 3 or 4 times!]. I can't watch it without tearing up. There are very few movies that make me sad or cry. I have a film on DVD that has a sticker on the case saying guaranteed to make you cry, but I didn't shed a tear. The story was saddening, but not tear-worthy for me - maybe other people would :-/?

@@SwiftTelly20 I was around her age when the movie came out and when I saw it the first time I was just a blubbering mess. After that, it took years until I could get pass that part. I remember sometimes fast forwarding is so I would not cry. But, to guess it's different for her because she didn't grew up with that movie and I guess she isn't as emotional as I was.

Actually, I liked that they made Hans a villain. I got so tired of the trope where the Princess meeting the Prince all the time and get married just like that. I think Disney wanted to get out of that loop and I'm glad they did! Look at the movies recently! It's no longer focusing on just lovers but sisterly love, familial love, friendship! Also villains are made to be hated. If they're not hated, then, they are poorly written and/or created.

Ursula is playing into the misogyny and double standards as a manipulative tactic to act as a catalyst for Ariel signing the contract. She doesnt necessarily believe these things, she's just wants Ariels voice and needs to get her to sign it away. Its actually quite smart on Ursulas part.

If anything Lion King is heartbreaking rather than angering and not just because Simba's dad dies but the fact that there's such a rift in the family over a power struggle. It honestly just reminds me of how I'm not close with my siblings. Although I will say, I dont understand why we still have heirachy based monarchies. Its just a power play.
