Advance Paragliding Open Harness Flight Deck, Cockpit Review. Cockpit CARRY is a modern, simple, detachable flight deck for instrument mounting with distinguishing features. Designed with current Advance standard open harnesses (AXESS, SUCCESS, PROGRESS and EASINESS ranges) in mind, Cockpit CARRY should also be compatible with similar harness from other brands.

I have this cockpit and success 5... i always run my leg straps through the "carry handle" and it keeps it in the right orientation.

I've had the same issue with it not sitting right. Great tip with the velcro. Last time I launched with it, it had rolled upside-down and almost lost gear. I do love it though.

I've got one of these, in pretty happy with it, I found flying in a success 5 that by default the instruments faced straight up. I have the loops on the leading edge of the carabineer and clip on round the back of the carabineer which shortens the loops enough to have the correct. I'm ok with the magnets, the back panel is also magnetic and folds in so you can flatten the deck for packing away. Also just checked the manual for the harness and it has 2 tape loops apparently for fitting a flight deck to! Doh! I'll give them a go next time

I have one and it is ok but sometime it will tip over, it is a bit too high..i have to test your solution with a loop to the legstrap

I used my Cockpit carry this weeken and I tried to use those attachment loops just below the carabiner on my Success5 and that was really bad. The cockpit now tipped over all the time. I instead attached the cockpit attachment loops to the shoulder strap and that was better but not perfect. I have attached the attachment loops to the carabiner before that is not so good either.

With my flight deck, not advance but does have a carry handle, I run my chest strap through the handle one and it keeps it in place very well.

Thanks for sharing that helpful tip! Which fight deck and harness? Does this interfere with the chest strap at all?

@@flybubblecarlo I use a Woodyvalley Wani 3, that I purchased from yourselves. Brillant harness. My flightdeck is a Para supply cockpit. It has a carry handle and my chest strap just runs through it once so it doesn't affect it at all but keeps it in place. I had the same issue of it dropping down too much until I thought of it and now it sits perfectly for me.

I have this flight deck - it's beautifully made, but imho the magnetic closures are a massive design oversight! There are no less than 14 extremely strong neodymium magnets inside, which completely overwhelm both analogue and digital magnetic compasses, so in fact digital instruments & mobile phones will only be able to accurately report your GPS course over the ground, _not_ your compass heading. This can be a pain if you use your compass heading for map orientation and imho a safety hazard should you visit the white room where it is useful to know both course and heading. I chose to keep the flight deck as it's otherwise very nicely designed, but I had to spend several long evenings cutting out the magnets and stitching on velcro strips instead. To get around it flopping forward as discussed, I use two shock cord loops around the carry handle and place my harness leg straps through those loops before closing which works very effectively at holding things nicely in place (although some care in the setup is required to avoid interfering with the buckles). After the modifications I find it excellent.

Can you explain how you did it ? I have the same problem, it's totally impossible to use my compass.

About the magnets, knowing the Advance design team a little, and their products a lot, I find it hard to imagine that these were a design oversight. I think it's more likely this was a design decision. Other top brands have also chosen to put strong magnets in their flight decks and pod harness cockpits e.g. Ozone and Niviuk, I suppose for the same or similar reasons to Advance. The magnets keep the lid closed whilst also offering a very convenient way to access the contents of the cockpit; the most convenient way I can think of. I agree the magnets do preclude fitting an a physical analogue compass on the flight deck. I personally prefer to mount a small ball compass to the harness chest strap (as a back-up in the highly unlikely event that both my instruments and phone fail at the same time). I've not noticed the magnets affecting the compass heading on my flight instruments or phone; thanks for mentioning this; I'll try to remember to check this next time. Anyone else noticed this?

Personally I find digital instruments much better than analogue compasses for exiting a cloud, should I inadvertently enter the white/grey room. This is because they give both your compass heading (the way you're pointing) and track over the ground (the way your travelling over the ground), whereas compasses can only give the compass heading. So with a compass you could be pointing north but travelling in another direction, even south, which could be dangerous in view of the terrain. I had exactly this happen once, nearly costing my life (maybe I'll publish the story on this one day) and so I changed to trusting the instruments more (and trying to remember to ensure they're always well charged before flying, and carrying a power bank as back-up and for very long flights). Also I've found it easier to keep my compass heading using good flight instruments than compasses, unless flying with a rather large and bulky spherical compass e.g. the excellent but heavy, bulky and inconveniently shaped Silva 70UN steering compass, which I did fly with for a while. I'd be interested to hear your and others thoughts and experiences on this?

How much... 😂

Agreed, it is expensive - currently the most expensive option. This is partly why we reviewed it: so pilots can be sure it's what they want. It is really well made and nice to use though. For some it's worth the price. Others will prefer go for a cheaper option e.g. the Gin Flight Deck 5L or Supair Cockpit Lite 2 etc. flybubble.com/accessories/flight-decks

From our testing, the next best option for a fully-fledged flight deck is the Supair Cockpit Standard 2: flybubble.com/supair-cockpit-standard-2
@flybubblecarlo
@flybubblecarlo 4 месяца назад
For us, the third best option for a fully-fledged flight deck is the Gin Flight Deck 10L but we found it doesn't sit as well as either the Advance COCKPIT CARRY or Supair Cockpit Standard 2, and is rather heavy at 700g. Although the weight includes a removable panel, the Kortel Kockpit Extension only weighs 100g - but this adds to the overall cost. So you need to decide on which is best or cheapest overall i.e. what you're happy to spend. flybubble.com/gin-gliders-flight-deck-10l
