Sometimes using pinned or managed memory is neither performant or available, and you need to resort to explicit memory movement techniques to copy memory between host and device. When copying memory in HIP you have the option of copying either contiguous or rectangular regions of allocated memory, and the option of using either regular (blocking) or asynchronous (non-blocking) transfers.
