It's been 7 years since I did the driving school and finally tried doing some 18' turns on my Sporty in a parking lot and I hate to admit, I struggled more than I thought. But after watching this video, I was forgetting to do the first thing they taught us - LOOK where you want to go, lol. I'll try again next week, thanks for all the tips and reminders!!

Hey Bitter hops, That's wonderful that you are willing to keep trying. You will have this in no time. Once your muscle memory kicks in, it will be second nature.

The way you can pause that bike was cool Rich! I love that! I tend to have too much pressure on my rear brake. I am going to practice being smoother with it. Thank you and please tell Kake Hi for me. 🤗
@BootsandJeansRiders
@BootsandJeansRiders 3 года назад
Thanks Karen I appreciate that. Just keep the rear wheel in motion with more throttle and you will do just fine. Constant pressure on the rear break without jabbing hard is the key. The slower you go the tighter the turn will be. I Thanks again and I'll tell Kake you said hi.

Good demo if anyone is watching this you should also notice how he is using the counter weighting technique. This takes away some of the feeling of falling and allows you to lean the motorcycle more. Great video!!

If you can do 18 ft you can have the confidence to turn the bike around just about anywhere.... I was out on a paved country road the other day which wasn't much wider than 18 and all of a sudden it was unexpectently getting ready to turn the gravel. I was able to get her turned around without having to duck walk it. It's a very satisfying feeling 😆

We in the UK do it slightly different, put it in second gear and leave it on tick over don’t touch the brake and just let it go, even scratch the foot pegs the be brave and you’ll be serpised how low you can go
@BootsandJeansRiders

Yeah Frank you all have more requirements than us. It seems as if anyone can easily get a endorsement here. I also was trained not to use the brakes in order to get the friction zone dialed in. (See mastering the friction zone video) I comfortable if 1st or 2nd gear and have scraped many pegs lol. Thanks for watching.

@BootsandJeansRiders 3 года назад
Hey Ken good question. I'm in 1st gear, but I do practice in 2nd also just in case I get into the turn in 2nd I know what it feel like. In 2nd gear I just throttle up higher in order to maintain power to the rear wheel.

Funny, I just came in from practicing u-turns and figure 8 with in 4 parking spaces with my 2018 DCT. Its something I can do but not consistently. But I crashed big time and fortunately I got it on video so I can study it. I'll be putting it on youtube after I edit the cuss words....:) I have no doubt it was caused by going too slow or jabbing the brake. Anyway, ur right it's really never needed in the real world except to give you a cushion on even the 24' turns. Everything else you said about why we do it is RIGHT ON! previous video's ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E6B_fX9HXgo.html
