To get the fastest speed we need the shape the sail for the best airflow. Because of the effects of apparent wind and the change wind speed with altitude the apparent wind direction changes with height above the water. In this video I show how to safely adjust the Jib or genoa sheet traveler (Fairlead) and how to use a series of telltales to know when the sail twist is correct. This is the first video in a series on sail trim for speed.

I love these 3-5 minute videos that are straight to the point without a bunch of filler.

This is the first time someone has explained why and how to adjust the jib cars on the track thanks.

I’m a novice sailor and have been wondering how to go about safely adjusting the working jib car without having to tack away and tack back. This is the first tutorial I’ve encountered that addresses this question and provides clear explanation of methods to make adjustments to the working sheet. Thank you!

These video's are a MUST for every sailor. Not many people know what to do with the sheet traveler!

yep. All I knew was in lighter wind, move it forward, and in heavier wind, bring it back, but I didn't really know why.

Great video. Shows things I never have time to notice while actually sailing my own boat. I'm learning to see more each time I sail

9-4-18. Very well done/explained/shown video lesson!!! Thank you. My wife and I were just out sailing. We were trying to learn about and figure out just the adjustments you began with this lesson. Looking forward to continuing with learning adjustments for our Genoa headsail. We have an o'day222 and love it. Ken

Yes, I have not made any new content in quite a while. Several plans for making more videos, but boat maintenance and personal issues keep delaying them. Hopefully by the end of summer I will have uploaded them.

I tend to adjust the fairlead on the lazy sheet, then tack and adjust the other to match.

...as general rules, you want everything tighter upwind, and looser downwind. Also, flatter in heavy wind and more curved in light wind.

Great video. Finally get why sail TWIST is important. One small error is that at 4:01 you say jib halyard, when I think you mean jib SHEET.
