Yeah it'll be the auto flag. Its always been a form of AI , but it's 'evolving' obviously haha. It's my bad for leaving a non-exclusive sample exposed

@@Bthelick do you remember the good old days when the likes of KLF used what ever they wanted?
@Bthelick

Haha I remember, but I can't in good conscience call them "good", given that the most sampled man in dance music history, Gregory Coleman, without which wouldn't have whole genres, died penniless and homeless. Artists still deserve their due.

Never thought about intentionally chopping samples based on the chord progression. I always just picked the parts I liked and tried (usually unsuccessfully) to write the rest of the song around that

Sounds so good, really feels like a salute track. I know you said the bassline is being saved for another video, but what did you use to create that sound? Is it just operator/serum or are you using a bass one shot sample? Sounds a little 808-ish
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 3 месяца назад
Thanks yeah it's just my 808 patch for Vital from the tech House bass episode. The link is in the description of that vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HCYlO7U6cqw.htmlsi=1-QPQWQQzuTBMaOQ

@Bthelick

thanks. Do you mean a different , more aggressive version of this same track? or are you asking for a tutorial on the harder stuff in general, in a later video?
@bennosharp5059
@bennosharp5059 17 дней назад
Well originally I meant a more aggressive version of the same track, I’m quite interested in trying to release a single with either one or two remixes/reworks included. But also while you’re asking it would be interesting to see how the more aggressive stuff is made, I’m more into my underground sound so producers such as Prozak are a great example.
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 17 дней назад
@@bennosharp5059 hmmmm ah I see. Thing is i wouldn't choose those chords or samples for an aggressive track, they are too jazzy/fluffy.

When you mention progressions like 6-5-1, does this account for inversions or does the inversion matter? Does a bass note help an octave down?
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 3 месяца назад
Inversions can change the emotion somewhat, just not as much as a different chord. Octave of the bass note is down to aesthetics, and purpose. Like you wouldn't want the bass too high in a club track, but not too low for most speakers
@itskittens

Can you do a tutorial on the bass? The midi the patch and the processing.
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 3 месяца назад
I already covered this particular sound in the Top Tech House bass sounds 2023 video. The patch is there to download. There is no processing specific to the sound other than side chain. I also made a video called "how I process bass" which will show you the rest. I did have a little eq dip on this one, but that's an ear education thing. Any tweaks I made here are specific to this mix, in this key, for this line, in this octave, at this tempo, for this sound. so pointless to teach unless you're going to make this exact track and mix with the same kick , drums, key, vocal etc. In terms of bass processing that I do every time, none. Every situation is bespoke. I usually don't do anything. As I say in all my tutorials that touch on engineering, it's about getting the sound right, then you don't need any processing at all. (Except the side chain for the sub)

How would you recommend us figure out the chords of a sample?
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 3 месяца назад
Well lots of ear training is the best way currently (called relative pitch training). You have to start by figuring out monophonic melodies first, until you start to learn note distances. That should lead to recognising bass movements, which gives you 75% of the clues, and eventually you'll get an ear for multiple pitches. There are software tools like ddmf's chord detector but it has the same limitations as all other polyphonic pitch detection that I mentioned in last week's video. Good ear training sites are listed in the description.

Hay, this has nothing to do with the upload but I am after a question answering.. do you know how to release a song and have the money go to a charity? A mate of mine had a stroke about a year ago and has learnt how to play guitar with just one hand and now he has recovered a song and would like to raise money for people who have had a stroke with the proceeds?
