Cheers for the Video clip! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Mahorrla Wooden Paradise Method (do a search on google)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for building better sheds and woodworking minus the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my best friend Jordan after many years got great success with it.
Tip: @05:15 I'd recommend connecting the charging station to a smart plug/socket. On a 15 minute automation check if the tablet >80-90% full and switch off the charger. Then (/15min) if the tablet is
Reed, great video, as always! Thanks so much for the shout out. Having a smart home dashboard is really cool. I love having that "birds eye" view of everything at a glance... especially late at night or early in the morning when I may not want to use smart speakers to control things. My kid has also used it. I have found my daughter using the wall-mounted iPad to make FaceTime calls to grandma in the past lol.
I appreciate it Shane! When I was researching for this video I came across your dashboard video again and I was like dang there is no way I can come close to your video with HomeKit. That’s a great use case for FaceTime calls as well!
Did I miss the hone assistant setup video? I’d love to see how you got to where you can use the tablet to control your smart home products. I feel like this is my next adventure down the rabbit hole
I too am building a new house and want to set up a smart home. Start off basic. Some lights, switches, cameras, doorbell, locks, garage door remote. I can't wait for new home tutorials. The part I struggle with, is knowing what to get. I currently have multiple Amazon Alexas and 1 Google mini, smart things mesh (but have never used it) I'd like to keep the number of apps limited and have most things integrated. Can you create an updated "all in one getting started video" Thanks!
Hey, I have been watching you for a while and just subbed because I want to see what you do with your new home. My home is 88 years old and has come a long way since I bought it. I plan to sell it as a smart home when I finish rehabbing it soon. Before this happens I want to add at least one dashboard. I can relate to the excitement you had when you got a function to show up on your dashboard and your wife was like "oh, how exciting". I recently added a smart switch on my furnace power so I can turn it off while I wash my filters without having to go in the basement. I love that I get notifications on my watch if the furnace has no power or heat tape on my water meter has not come on when the outside temperature dips below 33 degrees. The water meter is in an unheated space and to move it will cost hundreds of dollars so as of now it is automatically controlled and I don't have to worry if it will freeze and cost me more money to fix it. If I am curious about it when the outside temperature dips to 33 degrees, I just ask Alexa what the heat tape temperature is. Otherwise I get a push notification that the heat tape has come on right on my watch. People who are on the outside do not understand that it is not just convenience, but necessity to be able to control so much that not only makes it easy on you to have smart devices. It saves your time and money to have the most efficient home. When I first got my home it cost $800 per month in energy during winter & now I spend 20% of similar homes in my area on energy. The value has increased by five times what I paid for it & have invested in to it. The fact that it is full on smart, will help sell it too ( I hope).
I had seen one set up with a PI behind a bathroom 2 way mirror. It was super cool. I think I'd like this in my master bathroom so I can look at everyone's calendars and the weather and everything while getting ready. I'm definitely going to make one of these.
I just got into HA as well. Unfortunately I installed some integrations that aren't letting it start properly anymore and I'm now kind of stumped on how to troubleshoot it. Thing is definitely a labor of love!!
You always seem to time your videos perfectly for me! About to move house and change my setup to HA. Thanks for the tips, especially editing the demo dashboards - didn't know that one!
Looking excellent and really in depth my only concern that may be missing would be having the devices' child-friendly and safe (partially locked) to stop sticky fingers playing with your connected devices.
I have an iPad (OR an old Kindle!) I'd LOVE to use for a home dashboard! I have a couple Google mini's in the house. The Echobee thermostat, which has Alexa. I have a couple Wyze cameras. I have some WEMO plugs, with lights plugged in. I have some Philips Hue smart bulbs/lights. Samsung smart TV. XBOX...THAT'S where everything stops for me. I HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO GET EVERYTHING WORKING TOGETHER!! 🤣😂🤪😜 Just stumbled across your video. So I plan on watching a LOT more!
Really like the status icons for door locks and garage doors. I rigged up a similar status report using night lights. This is a much more elegant solution.
Me: YES! Finally! Wife: what happened? Did we win the lottery? Me: I finally got Home Assistant working with- Wife:zzzzzzzz Or Me: SON OF A $%^&×! @#$%! Wife: are you OK? Are you bleeding?! Me: I got an error message when I tried to run an automation.
@@SmartHomeSolver Yeah, I've had this same conversation with my husband more than once. Me: "Oh, $#!+!" Him: "What? Can I help?" Me: "Nah, it's just a smarthome thing. As usual, SmartThings isn't."
I'm using an iPort mount with buttons bezel with an iPad mini 4 on the wall. It's the most beautiful frame i found and it has 10 physical buttons you can program them as you wish. I use Roomie remote app for these buttons. The good thing is that you can create different Activities and you can use these 10 buttons for multiple purposes based the activity you have selected. The iPad mini 4 itself has Homekit as a dashboard which i think is beautiful, easy to use with all devices separated by rooms and it's very fast. All my smart devices are appearing to this dashboard after setting up the non compatible by using Homebridge on a Raspberry Pi. Remote access for all my accessories using an Apple Tv gen 4 as the main hub of homekit. Love from Greece.
The reason I love out-of-the-box solutions is if one device should fail a few years later I know I can just replace it with a new one rather than remembering what I did to get the device working with HA. Case in point I set up a computer with cameras and one failed after a couple of years and I ordered a replacement and was off and running in few hours.
I'm still looking for an explanation on how to get started from the beginning, ie. What is the URL all about, and what else do you need to do to get up and going.
I just recently switched my phone to a Samsung S10+ and I'm really wanting to get more into SmartThings, I wonder if this would be possible using a Samsung Tablet....... O and YOU'RE KILLING ME SMALLS!!!
Hi you you are so smart and full of knowledge but dont you think you are talking so fast for other people that for first time they are listeni g to these su jects. Consider it in your next video . Thanks. This has been best video about home automation i have seen by FAR.
I recently started doing my research on smart homes. And your videos are really interesting and engaging. Can't stop watching. I don't know if you can help with this. I live in an apartment and I want to make it smart without removing or modifying any original things that comes with the apartment. E.g. switch, blind, and lights. I've been doing research on sensors to make my switch smart. But I'm kinda in the loop. I use Alexa echo 4th gen.. I'll appreciate if you can give me a solution. Thanks
What setup do you recommend for Airbnb rentals where you don't want anyone poking around the settings? I use Samsung smarthings and z-wave devices for sensors, etc. Also want to be able to have the video feed from my Dash to automatically display on the screen when someone rings the bell. Other functions to control lights, a Sonos player to play pre-defined music/playlists from Spotify, turn on z-wave devices around the home, etc. Thanks!
Excellent video, I wish I had thought about a wall mounted iPad when we built our house a couple of years ago. Luckily the basement is unfinished so we can access wiring. Love the end, Your daughter definitely wins! Lol
You have an impressive system. I too am building a new home. I and the wife are getting everything we want for our home a little automation and security. I could use use your help with how to set it up. We are not computer savvy people but know enough to really FU any system just trying to set it up ourselves. What we have so far is.... 1 HP Envy X360 Laptop 1 Surface Pro X (this has got to go) 1 Samsung Galaxy S9 1 Echo Show 10 1 Alexa 6 Echo Dots 8 Dual Alexa Enabled Smart Plugs 6 Schlage Wifi Alexa Deadbolts 1 Ring Doorbell Pro 2 6 Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro LG Wifi enabled Washer and Dryer LG Wifi Fridge. Generac 21kw Wifi enabled standby generator Any recommendations as to dashboards to use and how to integrate/setup? Any help is much appreciated.
TBH i wish you would of made video including home assistant a while back. I just recently found out about it a month ago and its 100x better than whatever is out there. BUT what does means is I can not wait until you make more videos about HA. Yes I think you channel is for more general consumers but trust me, you will find a niche for advance users
Video is amazing. I really like smart home dashboards but I think they are for people with lots of devices and if you a beginner it is not the best option. But this is only my opinion. I love you content.
Thanks Nikolay! Yeah if you only had a few smart devices a dashboard may not be necessary but they make controlling smart lights really convenient. So even if you had a few smart lights, a calendar, to do list...etc it might be worth it.
At first I was thinking, “Hmm, this dashboard business may be a bit more complicated than I care to tackle. This video just might be where I get off.” Then I thought about the price of Fire tablets and their Alexa integration. It might be worth a shot. STOP POSTING VIDEOS SO I CAN STOP SPENDING MONEY!!! -P.S. Next smart light bulb comparison video, can you include (or at least mention) the bulbs by Sunco? They have a strong presence on Amazon. ¡Thnx!
Aloha! Great and awesome video. Very knowledgeable to what I want to do for my home light situation. Love the dashboard on the tablet but I’m wondering if you can give me advice to HOW to make my current normal home light switch to digital like on the tablet??? You showed only a tablet plugged into a outlet. How would I convert my light switch to digital like how it controlled on the tablet. Thank you in advance.
Great timing for me, I've been considering something like this for a few months. I'll be keenly interested in what you set up in your new home. Also, if I may, congrats on your successful win in geek to hot wife ratio. You definitely, killed it there.
I don't know where to start 🤣 Thinking the new Fire Tablet? Mainly want to control Alexa Rountines, use Sonos system, use Hue lights and be able to see time, date, weather etc. Any advice? Kind of a newbie lol.
I would love to see a review from you comparing the kid version tablets available.. Incl the apple. The couple i have seen have to many desktops within desktops, cant enable apps, have to be online or require subscription. Apple (grummble grummble) seems to be the best.
Is there any way you could make a video on how to use the Phillips Hugh motion detector to turn on and off the wall mounted iPad display. Thank you so much
I've had a weird problem with the Wallpanel app on my tablet. I have it set of the default home app, and it's set to screensaver mode so the screen never turns off. It works fine but every three days or so I find the screen off and when I turn it back on it's popped up again asking if I want to always use Wallpanel for the home app or just open it once. I hit always, and then a few days later it does it again.
I wonder, do you know a way to only see the thermostat temp and use that as a sort of ambient mode/AOD? I don't have a tablet or anything yet, so feel free to recommend anything.
So is home assistant an app you download or a website? How do you begin for a first timer. After buying all my smart bulbs lights and everything, what do I need to get home assistant
I hope my Raspberry Pi doesn't have memory. Because it'll know who ate it. LOL no mine mine once again a great video keep up the super work! safe and well
I've tried setting up Action Tiles on a Kindle Fire several times but found that I didn't use it all that often and that it was very buggy. The best feature I found was importing IP camera feeds from Blue Iris... However the problem with Blue Iris is that you need to leave a PC running the software 24/7 and the laptop I was using died on me and I haven't bothered setting it up again since. Might give it all a go again once I've got a bit more free time 🤔
Having a reliable Blue Iris server is probably the most expensive part of the setup. If you have ip cameras, I've heard tinycam is a good alternative to pipe streams into dashboards and view your cameras via mobile.
@@LadyRenira yeah, I'll probably have another go at it. I find that home automation is more of a hobby than being helpful but it still is cool some of the things you can do. I'm thinking of giving Home Assistant another try and use their dashboard... The main issue I've found is the Kindle screensaver being buggy
I would definitely say home assistant on android is not *easy*. Something simple like sizing a card seems impossible, but you would think it would be standard part of the interface. If it is, I can't find it anywhere.
Hey, love the vids! I’m a smart life user, is there any dashboards that would work? Or even better is there a way that I can get smart life on to homekit? I’ve done a bit of research and I’ve been able to get some smart life devices onto HomeKit and it works amazing but it requires a computer to run 24/7 and not all devices are supported?
Does anyone know if smart home solver has ever talked about the lifx beam or nanoleaf? I value his opinion cause I feel he gives an honest review on smart home thing. But just curious if he talked about them I know they have been out for a little while.
