Thanks for starting the thought process, different ways to use different equipment and multipurpose use Just recently, Dave Canterbury did a very, very good steak State video about the angles and how much they can are imported
I'm in Idaho, a person should carry a few more stakes than they actually need. I recommend 6 because of the more often than not rocky ground, plenty of sticks on the ground to make stakes but they tend to break more often than not. It can get frustrating.
Really appreciate these tips and tricks Blackie! I remember seeing someone talking about tent stakes and they said that they carried the plastic ones because they could be used to start a fire by scraping some of the plastic off in a pile and igniting it. It would be useful in wet conditions I guess and it is a redundancy for fire making. I hope your channel explodes with views because you have really good content that's very useful/practical! Thanks again! 👍👍
I am enjoying the advanced tips. After reading some of the comments I feel this way. Learn the tips and then adapt your situation and needs as you see fit. A friend told me there are basics and then there are advanced basics. Thanks for sharing.
@@djangowolfe610 it'll work any old line will work, if you real worried about wind tearing your tarp put a loop of shock cord on your grommits or tieouts
Hey Blackie- I like this series so far and your tips and pointers are much appreciated. Keep up the good work and look forward to your next one. Be safe out there-
Always a good bunch of tips Blackie. Once I was camping with a guy who used a hammer to drive his stakes, one must have been in a tree root and it took a crowbar to help him get it out. A blunt point can prevent that. Thanks as always for your consistent quality.
Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺, thank you for your time to make these videos, just a thought could you add a small toggle to the bowline , what do you think .
These are all nice quick tricks but I can’t imagine at your age you are doing light weight camps much …You need to show the truck camping videos more or the big tent for tour hammock. Have fun stay safe.
I’ll still carry the old buck 110 from time to time ,for a folder it’s hard to beat , and holds a scary sharp edge well . My only issue with it is it weighs more than three moras, flip side being at my age , I’m generally in sight of the truck when I set up and the truck don’t care what the knife weighs .
I use the flat curved stakes that you can leave in concrete for holding the bond breaker to height for my hold down stakes, I just tie a loop of string in the end of it. However I do agree with the t bone steak statement previously posted.
I deburr rough edges with a shaviv deburring tool. Easy and fast. For tent stake installation, I plan to accept the weight of a rubber mallet. It doubles as a groundhog or racoon deterrent. And as a weapon against unexpected circus clowns.
@@BLACKIETHOMAS Thank you. After the first circus clown attack, you will never prepare in the same way. That's why I liked the security cable/wire videos so much.
I don’t camp “stealthy” or “sneaky”. My experience is that using reflective line for guy lines saves tripping and falling onto pokey things - like the top ends of tent stakes that have black lines attached to them. To be stealthy, don’t ever carry along anything that makes a loud noise that is obviously a man-made sound. Leave home axes, hatchets, mallets, electric air pumps, etc. Don’t fry aromatic foods such as bacon. Use an alcohol stove - NOT a camp fire. Don’t smoke in camp. No flashlights. If all of that begins to sound like a PITA - then camp openly. Easier and respectable. It’s a personal choice. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
I've found those aluminum stake are lighter than the delrin stakes, an carry 6 of them in my pack. They can also serve as an improvised weapon if need be, think like a pointy, stabby thing. Thx for the vid Blackie
Hey Blackie! I enjoy your videos. Was wondering what flag is that on the lower right of your window. Yellow background and red griffin? I’ve seen them here in New England but haven’t learned what it is. Thanks for your content, learning a bunch.
Hi Blackie. Thanks for the tips. Very useful. I have a couple of the orange tent stakes you use in this video. (Need to get a couple more) But in the episode #1 the other day, you had what looked like a military grade tent stake. Where could a fellow find some of those?
usually places that sell fishing gear for trot lines walmart did but be careful check it and make sure the line is a little sticky if not its not real tared bank line and that makes a big difference
