At 19:16, A plot is shown with BN degrading PFOA with time under 254 nm illumination. Just before this, it was stated that BN has a band gap of 6 eV. 254 nm is only ~4.9 eV which wouldn't be enough to do the photocatalysis. I was curious if the light source used was measured to ensure it can excite the band gap of the BN or if the observed reactions are actually from defect sites on the BN. Is there any theoretical precedence for these potential defects? If the latter is true, does that change your approach for degrading PFAS? Perhaps more focus understanding the true underlying mechanism might be more fruitful. Thanks for the nice talk!
