The Tarot of Marseille is probably where divination with Tarot cards began.

This video was a major turning point for me, after watching it I got my first Marseille deck and now wouldn't dream of using anything else. The Marseille Tarot has a beautiful utility, it's a very fine tool for any purpose. There's an initial intimidation factor in the form of not having one's hand held. So it takes a bit of brave exploration to get a feel for but, it's well worth it.

I’ve just bought this deck today, I have your book now and I like the idea of keywords and noticing my intuition interpreting the situation is not being clouded by all the ‘noise’ of the other cards. Thanks

I picked up a CBD Marseille Tarot just to have it and eventually get to know it. Right now I'm learing the Rider-Waite Tarot and not ready yet to expand out. But a part of me wishes I had seen the Marseille Tarot first and began with it, because it's such an elegant deck and it makes me happy to look at it!

Hi Janet. It's usually the case! You will go back and forth seeing good things in each deck. Don't worry, eventually you will settle in with one being the preferred choice. Both decks are wonderful!

Oh my gosh! I am completely fan girling out right now! I started playing with tarot in May & I have been slowly learning RWS, different Oracle decks, & some taroracle decks. I had never learned about Marseille & my husband gave me a Marseille deck for Christmas. So, I searched Google for videos & I chose yours... I had no idea you are the author of the first tarot book I purchased in July!!! I love The Genius of Tarot! Thank you so much!! It has been so helpful for me! And now I am really excited to learn Marseille to better understand reading cards as a whole. I agree, RWS is so specific I have a hard time reading the traditional deck. I love your Sam Elliott vibe & I'm really looking forward to binging your videos!

This is so helpful to me as a beginner as I often will do a reading and the picture just doesn't match the situation or the context. I frequently get the 10 of Swords for some reason and seeing it only as this ominous card predicting horrible things to come doesn't work for me (and isn't accurate). Reading the card itself over the picture makes much more sense. Thank you.

So agree- a word is also worth a million pictures! In general using many different decks helps to learn many various angles to a card. But then Marseille allows u to use them all while the pictures narrow the interpretation to a degree... Thank you for explaining that well! Lots of love Vincent!

Thanks for this video! I hope I haven't asked this before as I've been wondering a long time about this, but on a few tarot forums/online groups, many have stated that Marseille readings are completely different from RWS decks and they've said they don't really overlap. My instinct or desire was to learn one system for all. Specifically, I had bought a beautiful Visconti deck (the Il Meneghello version with the massive, thick cards, rust colored backs and with a limited amount of printings) and having learned RWS first, I wanted to apply those meanings to the Visconti pips. I asked about it on my various facebook groups and they were mostly all "no way you can't do that - they're too different." So then I wondered if I could apply either the Visconti system if there is one to the marseille or vice versa - being that they're both ancient unlike RWS. And lastly I assumed if you "can't" apply RWS meanings to Marseille, that you can't apply Marseille definitions to RWS (again, different systems). What do you think about all this? I wish I'd known about your book - I just ordered Untold Tarot. Thank you! Marya

Hello Ayram. You will find many views on this question. My opinion is a Tarot deck is a Tarot deck regardless of the art. I interpret the "Seven of Swords" the same way no matter what deck Im using. The titles of the cards don't change so to me the meanings don't change either no matter what deck I choose to use. Hope this helps and thanks for watching my channel!

@@VPitisci I came back tonight and rewatched this video and I see now that you were in fact saying that the older system - TdM - is the one that in a sense counts more and whose meanings can be brought over to RWS. I'm sorry I didn't catch that before (am usually half asleep late at night by the time I have time to watch youtube vids)! Thanks again! p.s. you remind me of Leonard Cohen! 👍

I think you are right about TdM decks...I just got a LoScarabeo Marseille Deck to go with RiderWaite, Thoth, and a Hermetic Decks, but I knew I needed a more “purist” TdM tarot deck. To have all the others and not that one makes no sense.

yes that Marseille Deck is very similar to the one used for divination in France in the 18th century. The Rider Waite deck is from 1905 (much later) and was designed by an occult luminary A.E. Waite.(actual drawings by Pamela Rider) Waite was a contemporary of Aleister Crowley and was hated by the same. H.P. Lovecraft wrote a story with an evil wizard in it called The Thing on the Doorstep and the wizard's name? Ephraim WAITE. Three of swords means 'getting to the heart of the matter' (like Pitisci says, creative thought) and 10 of swords means 'having all the ideas you need' (stick a fork in me, I'm done/put a pin in it-ideas, not a person) The Waite drawings lead a reading in a particular direction and cause fear in the person who is trying to suss things out, probably in an attempt to sell him/her snake oil after putting an evil charm on him/her. All the reversals also are nonsense-more evil omens and portents. Not at all helpful and it puts a notion of fear into a clients head. I would not stand for it.

The deck got was in a blue box, entitled Tarot Classic, made in Switzerland by AGMULLER, but seems to resemble Marseille deck. I'll look out for the version you mentioned though. Perhaps it will hopefully be more reasonable than the illusive Greenwood deck!

Yes, that deck might be out of print now. It was around in the 90's but haven't seen it lately. EBAY has it but way too high priced. Not worth it! Anywhere from $95 to $50! Tarot of Marseille are pretty much the same from one manufacturer to another. I would try to get a refund but if you really want that particular style here it is on eBay. The lowest price I found. www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-70s-Tarot-Cards-Tarot-Classic-Deck-Swiss-AGMuller-Booklet-by-Kaplan/332789499630?hash=item4d7bccc6ee:g:jocAAOSwGXlbi~GF:rk:44:pf:0 @@crystalclearguidance8188
