My son and I are in the midst of a 9 day overland adventure and we are now on our second leg of the Centerforce Adventure Run 2021 where we continue to explore the Arizona desert and mountains. On this section of the trip, we depart Crown King and set off to tackled the trail of Turkey Creek, visit the old gold town of Cleator, and then begin our trek on a section of the Great Western Trail. Along the way we conquer some challenging obstacles, find some breathtaking scenery, setup camp in a great location and enjoy some great camp cooking and comrade around the fire. #arizona #overlanding #jeepwrangler
Part 1 of this adventure: • Beach Camping in Texas...

@@TrailRecon You’re very welcome. Being on the wet side of Oregon I don’t venture off into the high desert area but that’s definitely going to change having a vehicle that’s much more comfortable to drive and soaks up the bumps on all the forest service roads

I am an automatic person. I drove manuals all my life. So I have had both, However there is one thing people do not mention when making the argument for a manual. People may not think about the fact that an automatic trans adds heat to the cooling equation. In the desert, in the heat, climbing hills in low gear at slow speeds manuals do not add any load to the cooling system. This can be quite important in vehicles depending on air movement to cool the transmission. This really can be amplified when talking about older vehicles. I still think the automatic is superior in many situations, though not all. But manuals have no lines to break, almost never spring leaks on the trail, so there is that aspect to add to the equation. love your videos.

Great video! But Brad, you should cross the chains to your trailer. The main reason, is that "some day", "something" might happen, and the trailer tongue comes loose from the receiver. If that happens, the crossed chains will grab the tongue like a catchers mitt and keep it from hitting the ground. Worst case, that happens on the highway. Would be nice to have a 'back up' in case things come apart, that way, no damage is done. I caught this at the 7:54 mark. Hope that helps, rock on brother!

Enjoy exploring off the beaten trails, but no interest in conquering technical driving challenges and such. Prefer not "feeling" my Jeep, but relaxing, taking in views and hiking by foot across technical trails. The more automated the operation of my rig, the more I enjoy exploring parts unknown in relaxed comfort. Push button and go. My dad enjoyed driving a standard transmission, understandable him being born in 1922. I'm eyeing a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe. Bring on the newest 4x4 automotive tech!

"My preference for manual comes from having way better control and crawl ratio" - is that true these days? Take a manual vs auto JL. Auto lets you pick your gears in manual mode, has a better useable crawl ratio due to being able to slip and load up the torque converter, and allows for 2 pedal driving without having to worry about the clutch. I love driving manual and there's nothing wrong with it if that's what you prefer, but these days a modern auto is just better in the rocks.

The food on these trips always looks amazing. Working on the theory what goes in must come out, where does the out go?
@TrailRecon
@TrailRecon 3 года назад
Good food at camp after a long trail ride is the perfect way to end the day. Pack it out is preferred, but if that's not an option then practice the Tread Lightly Principles: In an areas without toilets, use a portable latrine if possible, and pack out your waste. If you don’t have a portable latrine, you may need to bury your waste. Human waste should be disposed of in a shallow hole six to eight inches deep at least 200 feet from water sources, campsites or trails. Cover and disguise the hole with natural materials. It is recommended to pack out your toilet paper. High use areas may have other restrictions, so check with a land manager.
