MAKING OPAQUE SHRINK PLASTIC CHARMS USING A MINI PANCAKE MAKER. In today's CRAFT WITH ME I'm making shrink plastic charms with my pancake maker and Elizabeth Craft Designs Planner Essentials Dies. Since shrink plastic is translucent/transparent and I want my charms to be opaque, I'm experimenting with different ways to colorize shrink plastic to make realistic looking charms. The MINI PANCAKE MAKER is a fun craftroom tool, opening up all sorts of possibilities, since I don't have to run down to the kitchen every few minutes to bake my shrink plastic charms. Now I will have much more flexibility to make charms for my planner, journal, and mixed media projects. What's not to love?

Thanks for sharing your process making your keys in the mini pancake maker. I think using the foundry wax was a very clever idea. You’ve inspired me to try that on mine as well and see how it goes. I’ve had it but never experimented with the foundry wax. For me I did have some luck coloring the shrink plastic using the archival ink pads using those inexpensive wedge shaped makeup sponges and eyeshadow sponge applicators and the ink doesn’t rub off. I really love the aged and metallic effect you achieved on these cute keys….they look amazing!

Thank you so much!! I experimented with a lot of stuff that I didn’t end up including in the video because it just got too long 😂 I love the look of stazon and archival inks on the shrink plastic, but they didn’t give me the opaque look I was going for. I agree that they are great for stamping and colorizing if you want a transparent or translucent finish, though!

Get a small metal grid..or mesh. Put your charms on the metal grid inside the maker, this will keep the charms off the surface and avoid the embossing powder build up around the edges ❤ I use a small piece of 1/4 inch wire mesh. You could probable use an old die, just something to support the charm up off the surface. You may need something with very small mesh for the shrink plastic though...unless you shrink them first, then add embossing powder etc. And then heat them again.
