Here's a great day from a couple weeks back on a river that's become an absolute favorite. This is a Skagit River tributary I explore in the upper reaches, looking for big fish stacking up, before the fall rains and weather comes. Hope you enjoy some interesting country and beautiful wild catch and release trout fly fishing! I sure did! Adventure On!!

Gotta be in my top faves of your adventures yet. Pure Gus solo in the deep woods, with gear tips, nature lessons, expert log crossings, crystal slow mo + music cues, hockey hair, strong title, beautiful rare fish. Lacks only a bear chase. Your love for this stuff shines in each shot.

Oh man, that is THE best description summary of a true FGF adventure video as I've heard yet. hahaha! Excellent feedback. Glad you liked it. It's a truly magical area and the section of water I found is hardly visited. Just Wow, right?! Blessed day indeed. "I am pleased." haha! =)

@@fishandflywithgusI’m not expecting a reply but I would like to visit that area sometime this year, are most of the tributaries good fishing about the time of year this video was put up?

Absolutely Chuck! We're spoiled and most folks never take advantage of getting deep in the wild and seeing what's all there. Love it!

Thanks for mentioning what river drainage you a fishing. I appreciate not mentioning the specific spot to keep any pressure lower, it's just really helpful to have a basic idea of where someone is filming. Great to see so many big bull trout BTW! Like StickFigure too!
@fishandflywithgus
@fishandflywithgus 2 месяца назад
This is the Skagit drainage. There's tributaries on tributaries with fish like this. Interestingly some of these tributaries now allow retention of bull trout 20" and larger. Populations of bull trout on the Skagit seem to have returned and boy do they love that cold water higher up in the late summer and fall. Does this help? Thanks for keeping mindful about disclosure. These waters are very special to me and I intend to see them maintain the low pressure...

@@fishandflywithgusmy favorite spot I’ve fished yet is a skagit tributary. Beautiful but also so so fun and remote.

Beautiful country up there. I concentrate so much on salmon in the summer and steelhead fall/winter/spring I have never made it up to those areas. Maybe some day...

@@fishandflywithgus I have been targeting cutthroat on the big "S" river. No coho yet but we are seeing them all over. Might try to target them but I have a hard time leaving the cutthroat alone. They aren't big but it is so much fun to watch the takes and my nephew is having a blast chasing them. Hopefully we will find some rogue coho willing to come to the surface.

Right on! Send me a note sometime and perhaps we can send a fly. My style is more remote/backcountry stream born trout, like these bulls and lots of west slope cutthroat fishing surrounding N Idaho, etc. This life is so fun when you've got days on days to explore and fish the best of the best. Hard to beat these areas for all around beauty and quality trout/salmon...

@@fishandflywithgusfor sure! Even out in NJ im kind of the same. I fish smaller and quieter areas for brookies and browns and stuff. We certainly dont have the geography of the PNW at all but for the appalachians, we have some beautiful pocket water and gorges and some nice fish. I ended up renegotiating out here (for now) but will still keep you on tab if I head out that way for a weekend and bring my gear :)

@eugeniosignorelli7308
@eugeniosignorelli7308 Месяц назад
Rainbows and dollys are wild in this area of the Cascades and are both anadromus fish. The rainbows here are possibly baby steelhead altought most NC rivers have resident population that doesn't migrate to salt water.

Pick yourself up a Garmin inReach for those off-grid adventures. They work really well for letting your friends and family know that you are safe. I have never had to push the “button” but I use it all the time to send messages and location information to my wife. They also offer 100k “rescue insurance” for only $40 a year which is bargain, considering a rescue hilo runs about 60k!

Gus, this video is awesome. I gotta know, is this above the Sauk river? Is it below Diablo lake?
@fishandflywithgus
@fishandflywithgus 2 месяца назад
You are correct. This is very special water high up. This is a S***** River tributary above the Sauk and below Diablo. The water quality and fish health is as beautiful as anything I've ever seen in Western Washington.

Amazing video and amazing fish! I fished up that spot during late summer early spring of last year but I hadn't had anything larger than a 15". What's the streamer you've tied in the second portion of the video? Is that some sort of sex dungeon? Thank you again for keeping this spot secret 🙏🙏
@fishandflywithgus
@fishandflywithgus 15 дней назад
Thank you! Incredible river in the late summer fall. Try again in September and see what happens. If you want a fishing buddy I'd be down to explore it with a friend possibly. Other sections lower are just as good I feel. Yes, dungeon variations. Those fish would eat just about anything!

Not casting to spawning fish is sacrilege to bass fishermen.
@fishandflywithgus
@fishandflywithgus 15 дней назад
Definitely not casting to spawning fish. They're pre-spawn. They're spread out and I couldn't see reds if I tried with the murky off-color water. Thanks for watching.
