Advice for JEWS coming to POLAND!
In this video I share some advice for Jews (but not only) who are coming to (or thinking of) to Poland and why Jews should seek out positive experiences while their in Poland, and not just focus on the Holocaust.
My name is Michael, and I'm a Jew from Canada, now living in Poland. This is a channel where I speak about my experiences in Poland and about what it's like being a foreign Jew living here.

@@agnieszkaolszewska6079 People never learn. They want to believe in fairy tales. And with recent event here in Gaza videos like this make want other Jews to follow same path, and move to Poland. And it will end up exactly same way. Polish people have Easter European mentality. Their self awareness and self preservation instinct is strong. That's why they don't have muslim terrorists rampaging all over their country. Same with Israel, which is more radical, but that's how you build a strong nation. Some of your sisters and brothers just want to be seen as kind, good and tolerant, when in reality they are pro destabilisation of your country. Keep being homogeneous. That's the only way to survive another partitions of Poland if they will come. Foreigners won't do it for you. They have their own cultures and people.

@@agnieszkaolszewska6079 Polska jako kraj była bogatsza gdy mieszkali z nami Żydzi. Pochodzę z Lublina i jest tu mnóstwo śladów tych ludzi. Podobnie we Włodawie. Po tym co się stało podczas II Wojny Światowej i później pozostała ogromna wyrwa i to widać. Brakuje nam tej różnorodności jako narodowi ponieważ Żydzi (i nie tylko) stanowili integralną część Rzeczypospolitej.

Realize one thing. Before WWII there were plenty of Jews in Poland because Poland had nothing against them while Western countries like France, Germany, Holland were exiling them. Many of them found shelter in Poland wich in that time was very multicultural (Belarusians, Silesians, Germans, Latvians, Lithuinians, Ukrainians all lived here). The proof of that is the fact that the highest number of Jews were murdered by Gemans in Poland. 3 million (and 3 million other Poles). Now the reason Poland is now basically (was before RuZZia attacking Ukraine) homogenic is Yalta where Stalin and The West decided to expell Germans from lands Poland got in the west and Belarusians, Ukrainians from the eastern lands lost to USSR relocated deep into USSR. Because of that in Poland most of people that left in were ethnic Poles. Just learn history and think about the reason there was so many Jews in Poland before WWII. Now those western countries call Poland racist and antisemitic... Sadly Israeli follow that path...

We used to have many synagogues and an entire Jewish quarter- about half of the inhabitants were Jews. That story had sadly ended in Treblinka which is very near, but even today a lot of places remain if you know where to look. There are remains of a kirkut, a prayer house, some mezuzy still left in door frames...

My man I discovered your channel not that long ago and subscribed immediately after watching the first two episodes on Polish Jewish relations. I have to say I admire your approach and wisdom. You sir should be a rabbi... Living in the US working among Jewish people I had my own spectrum of experience. Starting from people openly hostile asking me if Poles are done killing all their Jews already (a hole inside made me answer, well kind of Germans did it for us) to being welcome like a lost relative (nice old Jewish lady from Łódź that had Jewish bakery in LA). I believe the relations between Poles and Jews need to normalize and get separated from our personal views of politics and country leadership. Our cultures existed and evolved side by side influencing one another and neither one is full without the other. Thank you Sir. I hope one day when I visit my home time of Kraków I may be able to meet you. You seem like a great person to have a chat with .

The backstory for the football club thing is actually slightly wholesome: Basically, back in the interwar period, just as now, there were two big football clubs in Krakow: Cracovia, and Wisła Kraków. And during the interwar period, Cracovia was tolerant of Jews and opely accepted them into their club, while for Wisła Kraków that was not the case. As such, WK and its fans started associating Cracovia and its fans with Jews, to an overexaggerated degree. Cracovia was accused of being a Jewish club, especially by antisemites - just for accepting Jews. Even after the Holocaust and communism, these labels and associations still stuck around - Wisła Kraków fans still associate Cracovia with Jews, and use the term 'Jew' to insult them and their fans. Some Cracovia fans have mocked and embraced this label by calling themselves "Jude Gang", and using Jewish symbols and terminology to represent themselves. This has stuck so strongly to the point where 'Jew' and 'Jews' have become standardized nicknames for the players and fans of Cracovia. They are literally called and referred to as "Jews", no matter how nonsensical that might seem from a modern outsider's perspective.
@tomaszstramel3594

I'd also say, don't go around proclaiming your Jewishness at every turn, in every sentence. People generally don't care who others are, but if you go overboard in making a point out of your identity, they might start to think you're on some kind of crazy mission and might be put off rather than attracted. As for Jewish cemeteries, make sure you visit Lodz. And be prepared to see Stars of David incorporated into the local football teams' acronyms sprayed on building walls as well. It's an incorrigible tribal thing ,a twisted vestigial acknowledgment of the historical tragedies these lands are steeped in, of which the horrors of WW2 are but one.

Hi Michael, you talk about Jewish cemeteries being an important experience for a Jew, but have you been to a Jewish cemetery in the woods in Karczew? It is about 30km from the centre of Warsaw. I once met a man there who told me that he had been looking for his family's grave for years (I think it was his parents) and he found them in this forest cemetery.

I wonder why you introduce yourself as a Jew from North America. If you have lived here for a couple of years now, if you have Polish citizenship, if you even vote here, I would assume that you are a Pole of Jewish origin or a Polish Jew. On the one hand you say Poland is your country, on the other hand you don't identify yourself as a Pole. So? It sounds confusing to me when you invite other Jews here focusing only on the Jewish side of culture here... I would appreciate some encouragement directed to the Jews to interact with Poles and our culture, not limit their stay here to visiting JJC, Jewish cemeteries and festivals. A number of Poles cherish Jewish culture , but would be happy if the Jews also noticed our landscape, art, cuisine, history , hospitality etc. just as more and more foreigners coming here do. There are many YT channels now run by immigrants from various countries highlighting how underrated our country is and how unfair the unfavorable stereotypes they might have heard are .

Before the war, Cracovia was a more intelligentsia club (apart from the fact that it had assimilated Jews among its founders - Józef Lustgarten), an academic club, and it was more willing to accept players from the two cracovian jewish football clubs that were fighting their "holy wars" before the derby of Cracovia and Wisła clubs began to be called that - Makkabi Kraków (favored by Zionists) and Jutrzenka Kraków (favorite of Bund supporters).

I've definitely polonised since I moved from Detroit in 2007. I just remember American Evangelicals screaming at us in the USA "Cat-lick idolators, you worship demons with your churches and cemeteries, God doesn't need a house to be glorified. This is unbiblical. Testify and accept Jesus as your personal saviour, believe in the Bible" Then they say "America stands united with Israel. The Jews are God's chosen people"... Oh wait, look at Jewish synagogues and cemeteries in Poland, the Jews have paintings and gold utensils in their synagogues just like Cat-licks... God, I just love when the American Evangelicals see the Jewish synagogues here and their reactions- "I thought they were people of the Word, but gasp they're pagans, just like them Cat-licks". We also have a large museum of Polish Jews (Polin) The festival organizers want to restore what was, so they go back to the good old days. It's nostalgic because we miss you. So if someone wants to feel the atmosphere of the 19th and 20th centuries, they can literally travel back in time. Shawls and goose pipes - may be a surprise for modern Jews. Before the Nazis, there were many people of Jewish origin living in Poland and they were simply part of Polish society. For Poles they were Poles. The only difference was religion. Now they are gone. This murderer stole our people! And, in addition, this horrible guy gives Poland, which has been safe for centuries, a negative connotation. We need to write a new story to bring back the joy. PS. My friend is a fan of Cracovia, a football club whose members are called Jews. He said that it was a reason because they used to have Jewish players. They are mostly Poles, but they have a song like: they call us Jews, no one is ashamed of it, because it is our club's beautiful history etc.

It is important to know the real history, but people should stop living "the past". It is also important to know that guilt for events from the past shouldn't be passed to people who have nothing to do with such events. Sins of the parents aren't inherited by their children. Just to be clear I mean both Jews and Poles, because during over 800 years of their history in Poland there were good and bad events.

Like Michael said it has nothing with actual Jews and as confusing it may be it has nothing to do with antisemitism. In fact we had several Jewish players playing for the club in recent years and these guys were fans’ favorites and loved by all. They have since left the club but are still dearly missed and appreciated.

US Poles are somewhat reserved and we may not appear too nice outwardly, but in general we just like to leave everyone around us be. We don't like to be bothered by anyone and we don't like to bothered anyone on the street. Pretty much everyone just minds their own business. On closer contact, you'll find some people who are very nice and helpful, most just indifferent, and there will be a minority of unpleasant people as well, like in any country, but nothing in the scale of todays's France or Germany where Jews increasingly fear being Jews in public. Who knows, maybe we will be the safe haven for Jews we once were.

For me is very sad to hear when some people making the interviews with Jews in Israel and asking about Poland. The Jews in Israel have very bad connotations about Poland. I have the feeling that they are blaming Poland for everything but bot Nazi Germany. Poland were in the middle of that war. For hiding the Jews you and your family were killed. There are many signs and many memorial places after jews all over the Poland. Our kitchen in mnay points is similar. I miss this times when jews were in Poland. You have to know that instead of Auswitz (there were presoned millions of polish people too) you have to visit and feel the spirit of the Jews in Kraków, Warsaw, Lublin, Białystok. In Poland among some people not only members of the opposing club but also members of the other political party are supposed to be Jews. I once had a talk with a right wing hooligan and he told me: "I have nothing against those official Jews - those that go around in those jewish cloths and go to the synagogue. I respect them. Who I hate are those Jews in our parliament and government that arepretending to be Poles". Concluding, in Krakow it would be difficult for those fans not to come acros a real Jew once in a while, but they don't realy care. They hate the "Jews" from the opposite football team. 3:36 - this is an anti-KS Cracovia symbol. We, the community of KS Cracovia fans, call ourselves "the Jews", each match at Cracovia Stadion ends with the words "see you next time on the promised land" (do zobaczenia na kolejnym spotkaniu na Ziemi Obiecanej). I think that fans of TS Wisła started to call us Jews becase many of our fans and sponsors were Jews before the war, while the Wisła club was considered a police and a state club, not a people club like ours. This has nothing to do with the antisemitism or, for sure, not as much as one could think.

Hi, to be honest, yes I think many Jews would find it offensive. It is taking the Jewish religion and important Jewish symbols and using it for another purpose. It would be like non-Christians doing this with the cross. I am personally not religious so I find it more strange than personally very offensive, but I can imagine many who would not like it. Also the image of crossed out stars of david on Polish streets is very unsettling and looks quite bad to visitors.

The only reason Jews should visit Poland is to thank Poles for providing shelter to Jews who were fleeing from pogroms in Western Europe in the Middle Ages. At some level it is understandable that Holocaust (which is just terrible name, because it means religious sacrifice, for example of animals) overshadow all history of Jews in Poland. At the same time, I think that any such fixation on one event is just bad for everyone, Jews included. I myself have a feeling these days that if I would disagree with Jew on anything, I will be accused of antisemitism, of forgetting of Holocaust and judged as bad as people in UK, mostly from Middle East background, that arrived at London to scanted "F*** Jews" (I don't know when precisely this happened). It is not a rocket science, to understand that it is not what I want nor what I deserve and doesn't help to have normal relation with people with Jewish background.

@@lerubenfeld Unfortunately, I feel pressure to agree with Jewish people on everyone or I will be called "antisemitism" and even "neo-nazi". Recently I watched discussion with self proclaimed liberal Jewish woman and secular Zionist and I know that I wouldn't agree with her on everything, since I against many liberal policies. The way she speaks constantly referencing Holocaust and hearted of Jews make me feel that, if I disagree with her liberal policies, I will be counted among persecutors of Jews. I would disagree anywhere, if this mean that I be called antisemitic, so be it. If you polish, American, French or Jewish and has liberal policies that I don't like, I would disagree with you, I don't care about your ethnicity. It is not question about your ethnic background. If you are pole or Jew and you think that everyone who disagree with you is a member of "far-right organization" there is something wrong with you. I know that it is not Jewish thing to behave like that, I meet people that are not Jews and behave exactly the same: you with me or you want bloodshed and civil war. I feel that they spit on my face and then say that I'm evil because I'm not happy with their behavior. This is hard topic, but I hope that I explained it well enough to avoid misunderstanding. If you want to talk more, feel free to ask. I'm now in Cracow, Poland, so if you can and want, we can even meet in person. For me open discussion about such things are important to have.
