I am a Canadian Polish Jew who lives in Poland. I work professionally as an actor, writer and I produce a yearly Jewish Arts and Activist festival called FestivALT
Jestem kanadyjskim polskim Żydem mieszkającym w Polsce. Zawodowo pracuję jako aktor, pisarz i producent corocznego festiwalu żydowskiej sztuki i aktywizmu o nazwie FestivALT.
All the people talking about democracy in Poland are right. But it wasn't Michael's point. In his opinion, "selling the product", in this case, someone's effort to convince the general public that the abortion is a bad thing could be directed more effectively. Please remember that Michael is a professional storyteller 😀 He knows how it should be done. 😂
@@krzycho751 He should just shut the F up. theoretically, you can talk a lot, but the fact is, if it weren't for the state's support for all kinds of stupidity in theaters, this man would have to go to a normal job, my question is, what can he do that anyone could honestly pay for?
Maybe this won't work for most of people, but it's better than what was done by former government. In Canada, western Europe it would be impossible. Here at least there's freedom for both pro- and anti~ activists
@lerubenfeld ....so gey should be proud at home...sorry but you want equality but only for some. If we can have love parade, we can have people praying on streets. And im very happy with that because it is a true freedom of speech.
Oh boy. That’s the best you’ve got? Sigh. Braun truly managed to brainwash people into believing they understand something about Jewish culture. Equating praying on the streets for dead babies and lighting a menora in the Sejm exemplifies how difficult it is to be in conversation with some people here about serious issues when there is so much freedom to have opinions on things they know nothing about.
They are praying for the murders to stop and for God's forgiveness. What's wrong with that? If they had a poster with cute smiling baby saying "don't kill me" would it then be more acceptable for you? It's freedom of congregation, what's the problem?
Hey, man, it just shows we have freedom for everybody here. In Canada, the blue states and the Western Europe they lock these poor harmless Catholics up.
Polacy sa Narodem Wybranym , majacym oboetnice zbawienia a Zydzi tego nie maja.Cale narody nas nienawidza i nami pogardzaja.Zydzi chca sie schowac wsrod nas ,by ustrzec soe gniewu Boga za swoje zbrodnie . Ale Bog bedzie wiedzial .kto jest Izraelita a nie Edomita.
I have to say I sympathise having recently taken a couple of trains in Poland. In the UK, we only give the Platform number (Peron), so why the track number? Confusing to me.
I don't know about other people, but I myself am philosemitic. First, they were very important in our history, second, I love Jewish music and sense of humour, and last but not least - they are the chosen nation by Fod Himself🙂
As to Grzegorz Braun - he used to be a film director. Even a recognized film director. I see his actions as artistic drama not actual beliefs. You cannot take him literally. However his actions are very harmful to Polish state. I do not know who pays for his "performance" but definitely it's someone who does not wish us well. My point is he's not primitive - he plays a role with full cynicism. You are an actor - you should easily notice he's acting.
As a second generation Catholic Pole born in Canada, I had no clue that Jewish people classified us the same as Germans. It makes me very sad to hear this. Everything that your dad mentioned regarding post traumatic stress syndrome has been handed down in Polish families as well. My family also rarely talked about what they went through, but the rage and the grief was always felt just below the surface. In my personal life, my parents never spoke badly about Jewish people when I was growing up.
Check the hanging signs/displays with names of destination cities, usually train numbers and departure times. Also - when they introduce call train from speakers - they mention platform (Polish "peron") and rail number ("tor").
Love that the sibling bickering doesnt stop at 100. Wish I could be there! with my luck the Vancouver JCC will host a screening while I'm in Poland next month.
Perhaps "need" is somewhat too strong a word but in general you are right. I sometimes think that maybe 30% of us Poles have some sort of Jewish roots without knowing about it. Hitler called Poles a mongrel race and Germans killed Poles with relish. I think that there is tremendous emotional similarity as well. Poland also stopped existing for a long time, although nowhere nearly as long as Israel, so both Poles and Jews recognize the importance of having a home. While that is not the case in Canada, patriotism is an important virtue in both Poland and Israel because of the condition of being surrounded by enemies. I am pointing out similarities that cannot be overlooked. However please melt into Polish society to the degree you feel comfortable. One of the problems in the past that while a number of Jews integrated and became famous (as well as in the US and elsewhere - e.g. Julian Tuwim, Janusz Korczak) large number of Polish Jews apparently lived in separate parallel societies and that hopefully will not be repeated. That actually seems to be your goal. When I was a kid and emigrated to the US I picked up on something I called a leap, which was essentially to cut through a sense of being a foreigner by instantly recognizing that the other person was just another human. I was leaping over the barrier of self-conscious thought on both sides, and took complete responsibility for cutting through the strangeness of the situation to the degree I could. Unless the other person was a total jackass the leap has served me well.
