A couple of months ago I purchased a night blooming peruvianas I think it’s called in a gallon container. The Ace nursery person helped me select a pot about 2-2.5 “ bigger all around and told me to just transplant it into the new pot but don’t disturb the rootball. I planted it in some organic Blackgold cactus potting mix and did not water it for a few days although it was very dry. The plant had 2 pups was a very healthy green color and I watered it once and it rained lightly once. It has steadily started turning yellow and shriveling. I have resisted watering because I thought perhaps I should not have watered it at all. I wish I could send you a photo. I live in Sierra Vista, AZ zone 8B so should do well in the winter with some frost protection but I was hoping you could tell me if I did something wrong or if it will recover. Thx

Not sure what is going wrong for you. I would personally leave it alone over winter, providing it with only enough water to make the potting mix moist but not wet. In spring if you notice it starts to get some new growth then feed and water it regularly over late spring and summer.

Cereus is a very diverse genus. Can you please tell us any of the species names that Robert is growing? Did you find anything interesting about growing the seeds? Thanks

From what I understand these are Cereus peruvianus. The big ones that we see here are self sown therefore how pure they are we cannot be sure.

+featheredfan I think these are Peruvian Apple, not the famous Peruvian Torch.

My parents bought a cutting and I think it was from Fields about 28 years ago, is it still open?

Does anyone know why large Cereus cacti sometimes go yellow? have a fairly large one the plant has gone completely yellow, I've thrown fertiliser and sprayed power feed but it hasn't changed. I've decided to cut it back half way as maybe its yellowing as its old growth. Do they yellow from water stress or sun? I'm in Melbourne. I have some rock minerals from Bunnings, perhaps that might help?

Opuntia, with flat pads and its red prickly pear tuna fruits, is not Peruvian apple cactus. Sorry he mixed the information here. ALL true cacti are originally native to the Americas, but have transported around the globe.

My cereus looked healthy except every thorn has a white mark, not fuzzy. When I water the spot turns black. No bug seen. Please help.
