You were on the bachelorette right? You represented the Marine Corps in a professional and mature manner. That other guy that was fighting with all the other guys on the show wasn't representing the Corps in its best interest. Great job and Semper Fi
Ever since I was 8 years old, I've always wanted to be a United States Marine. This past November I spoke to my recruiter and am currently in the Delayed Entry Program. I leave in 90 days. This video has some awesome information. Great tips. Can't wait to be a fellow Marine. Semper Fi.
I leave for MCRD Parris Island in 16 days, and your video has definitely helped me out. I was so stressed and worried and I'm that guy who asks a lot of questions. But, following your advice, I will learn from their mistakes, not mine. Semper Fidelis and God bless.
Finally decided this is what I want to do in life, no not from the video, but earlier this week. best Advice I've found yet. Thanks and ill keep it in thought.
This doesn't just apply for Marine recruits. I wish I had this knowledge when I went through Army BCT. Anyone looking into going into the military, take note of this video. This guy is spot on!
The two biggest concepts that I did my best to apply when I went through basic were listen and learn. Listen to everything that your DI's teach you whether you understand it or not and learn as much as you can from them. However you lived your day to day life before you got to boot camp has zero applications once you are there. Your most important goal while in boot camp is to learn everything you need to know so that after you graduate you can go on to be the best Marine that you are capable of being.
Probably should also mention that there can and will be some drill instructors who do not care about their job at all, and despite this, do not get discouraged. Just because the drill instructor loses integrity, doesn't mean the recruit should. On top of this, learn how to swim prior. Marines who are looking to get far at the star lose all sense of leadership privileges if they are iron ducks. Other than these two the advice you gave covers a lot. I hope people appreciate it. -Semper Fi brother
Malice The fame Not in boot camp it's not... Boot camp is a check in the box with shit like swim qual - you can always re-test when you hit the fleet...
I agree with you there. I but my point was that if you are looking to get far at the start.. Etc guide or a squad leader. My point is basically that not knowing how to swim can be a reason why a drill instructor will not put you in that position, or even worse take you out of that position. But your right in that sense. All in all boot camp is all checks in the box.
Malice The fame When I was in boot camp, we didn't so swim qual until week 10 out of 13. The guide and squad leaders were already established for the remainder of boot camp at that point...
Brother, I graduated 1968, and yes i lost many brothers in NAM, But my fond memories of all the ass beatings and profanity that was worse than that Hollywood full metal whatever couldn't even come close to what we went through in NAM, Times change, careers are ruined if we go back to the old hazing standards vintage 1968. SEMPER FI my brothers and sisters. 🇺🇸👍
I'm having trouble choosing between Marine Corps and Air Force, I feel like the Air Force appeals to me more yet I want a challenge that the Marines will certainly give.
videofreakmanic123 Air Force is for pussies, eh? Guess Marines never need air support then. Not in combat, not for transport and not for logistics. A Marine just pretends to be a bird and flies all by himself, using his arms.
Going to be enlisting in two months. Taking the time to get mentally and physically more prepared for my personal success. Thanks for the video and the advice man.
I wish this video was out when I went. (8/8/10) He has great advice for all of you. I am out now and it was the best thing I ever did in my life. I have only been out a few months and I am already missing my brothers. The bond you will make while in will never compare to anything else. Semper Fidelis
I am going to be joining in about three or four years, and this is the way I sort of looked at it.. But didn't think much of it until I watched this. I can tell this video will be a great help to me in bootcamp. I appreciate it!
Great video!! My son graduates boot camp Parris Island in 2 weeks. I REALLY wish I had found this and had him watch it before he left, especially the part about breaking up with his girlfriend. She is not cut out to be a military gf/wife, and has been making BAD choices since he left. I'm going to end up the bad guy if I have to explain to him what's been happening. It could put a huge damper on what should be a wonderful reunion on Family Day. Anyone reading this who is heading to Boot and thinks breaking up w the GF is bad advice, think again. You'll have more than enough to deal with without wondering what she's doing. The part where the DI tells you your girl is back home banging your best friend isn't always fiction...
Thank you, actually just today I was telling myself, I should just embrace the Marines Corp & right there and than I would look at all of the American citizens and their home, family & friends, KIDS, BABIES. Started too realize I am gonna be putting my life in front of the U.S. citizens so they can live another day of life, just knowing that much puts me at a 110% mind set of motivation.
I'll never forget feeling snake bit in MCRD... just little things like having my shower shoes stolen as a joke and my bunk mate as well so I gave him my shoe and got ITed rather then have everyone dump their locker... later other recruits got my shit back. They failed to register my pullups on the iPFT and I nearly failed because of it also failed to write down pass on my swim qualification even though I passed it with flying colors. There was the time we were washing our clothing outside in the wash basins and two guys were talking shit and I got blamed for it. This kind of shit happens to some recruits and the best way to deal with it is to just accept the blame and take the punishment. This will earn the respect of your fellow recruits even if it does make it impossible to ever attain a leadership position.
Thanks for the advice man. I have been living in Mexico City for the past 3 months (Dual Citizen), and I was a little nervous about going back to Arizona and enlisting because I did not know what to expect or how exactly I should act. However thanks to your video, I feel more comfortable about returning and enlisting, not to mention motivated . If everything goes well, God-Willing I will be part of the United States Marine Corps. Thanks again.
Canadian infantry 20 years boot camp 1988 they physically assaulted us and I was fine with that made us hard as medal at the end.I agree with your philosophy I went with no baggage, same as you completely focused. Was rewarded top candidate, physically fitness award . You are a credit and superiors will notice. One day they came and wanted to make me a officer big regreat I did not. Stayed in the ranks. Loved every minute of it now 48 and I'm hurting physically you will to but would do it all over again.
do as your told, be as loud as you can from the moment you get there, pay attention, and don't stand out. Also try not to be front post during fire watch ;)
I would just like to say that this right here is a wise man this video alone calmed my anxious feelings for boot camp and I have been stressing it for months my ship date (july 5) is still months away but now I am quite excited to go.
Im a 14 year old freshmen in sports. Im an A-B student. coaches and teachers say I have a good attitude. Im graduating in 2017. So i will be going to marines bootcamp at 17. Thanks for the advice
Glad I watched this. I ship to Paris Island May 4th. MOS is a 1341. Really excited for bootcamp and look forward to it. Thanks for the advice man. Really helped.
Went to Parris island 42 years ago. And i had no clue as to what i was getting myself into. Spent the next four years as a grunt (0311). Would i do it again? Ain't no fucking way! Four years was more than enough for me.
Thanks for the video. My son just went to boot camp and this is week 7 and I have not heard from him. Your video is very reassuring. LOL…he had the same attitude about the "girlfriend".
Here is a good tip from personal experience. Make sure that you really want to go through with it. Don't do it just to satisfy, and/or please your mom or dad. Otherwise, you'll end up regretting it. I got screwed over many times in the Marine Corps. Don't ever listen to anyone's persuasion except your own. My father told me that women like a man in uniform. That turned out to be an empty lie. Every time I wore the uniform out to a bar, or a restaurant; I have never received any type of attention from the women there. I didn't even get a look
No.. maybe if you understood my comment you would understand why I said hooyah. What you expect me to say hoorah and pretend I'm a marine. No. I only giving him respect from my branch saying thank you, and saying hooyah form the navy's side.
I'm just saying, if I was talking to a marine and I wasn't a marine, I would still say hoorah. Anyways say what want I don't really care. By the way, understood you comment just fine.
I leave for bootcamp on Jan.27, it's currently Jan.14, thanks for the video. I've watched a lot, and almost skipped yours, but honestly your simple take on advice was really helpful. Maybe one day I'll stumble across this video again and be able to give an update on what happened on Parris Island lol
Great video, good insight and advice, had some things I haven't heard yet. I ship in three weeks and going for honor grad!! Told my Sgt I'm bringing him to P.I.
cant wait, getting my GED in a couple months, gonna get in shape physically and mentally, break off a lot of ties, make sure I can bench 4 times my weight, and go in with the right mind set, I cant fucking wait to train at parris island
my biggest problem right now is that I cant do pull ups or push ups, I cant bench my bodyweight at all (245 pounds) and thn I gotta build up my stamina cuz I cant run for more then 4 minutes without getting tired lol as soon as I can do al those things I plan on enlisting
Really good advice man, I will be going to bootcamp after high school, just need to pass the ASVAB then I'll be shipped to bootcamp at MCRD San Diego. Thanks again for the advice!
im at my first duty station now in the AF. I wanted to be a marine before joining but that didnt permit. Honestly i feel like ive made a huge mistake every time i see a Marine video. I love the AF and love my job in it. But in the next 5 years if i decide to reenlist it will be under the USMC.
Hey im a junior in high school and wanting to go in the marines iv started talking to my recruiter, i knoe boot camp wont be that bad but this video helped a tremendous amount. I appreciate it.
I don't agree with the advice to leave your girlfriend. Writing my girlfriend worked for me throughout basic and we're even getting married during HBL. You should never have any questions at boot camp. If you don't know, your buddy will know. If he doesn't know, then they haven't fucking told you so don't ask stupid questions. Questions waste time and it's just a trap for drill sergeants to fuck with you. A lot of people think the Marines will only take fitness studs. The military will make you fit.The minimum standards for the initial strength test are as follows: - 2 Pull Ups - 35 Sit Ups (2 minutes) - 1.5 Mile Run - 13:30
AndrewDangerously It's allways good to make yourself fit before you join the Army. Trust me guys. Because I only had 1 week to prepare before I joined. Nothing worse than joining the army and running around like a cripple. btw, what happened to this channel?
My point wasn't that you don't need to train. My point is that Marines are just like any other branch, they will take you as long as you can meet very minimal fitness standards. Bare in mind, there's a lot more to getting into the service than just fitness.
Basic Combat Training; a lot of people call it "basic". There are a lot of people who lie about military service, but it's a bit goddamn ridiculous to accuse people based on absolutely nothing. What, do you want to see my fucking DD214?
+soflo23 is hazing really that big of a deal in the USMC? i really want to enlist, but im indian and im sure there's not too many indian people in the marines
***** lol im indian in ethnicity, but i was born in America. Im not really talking about Hazing in boot camp, im sure everybody gets their fair share of that. im talking about like if i make it to fleet.
I'm so ready to sign up man. I've wanted to be a marine my who life but poor decisions have held me back. I lost my father (a navy vet) a month ago and I want more than anything to make him proud
Boot Camp really isnt difficult, if your fit, agile and know what your getting into. I knew from my older cousin what Marine training was like. Here's a tip. If you don't take shit from anybody, your fucked. Because, you have too in this situation lol. Have fun, your going to make awesome bros. Im deployed in the ugliest country. Kandahar, Afghanistan. Im Sgt. Mike Sims. You might know me.
Why would you want to be a jerk in boot camp? Yeah, I get you're in it for yourself but you get no friends and just enemies. It's not even a necessary way to act. You can still be a nice, cool guy and still be successful. But after boot, we beat up the kids who treated us like crap. Don't think that just because you are in boot camp or training that you get to treat others like crap. I was successful in boot and I made friends. The guys that were above me who treated me and others like crap, ended up not geting the awards I got. So what was their purpose? Always remember, the people you crap on are people and they won't forget what you did to them.
I am not a military expert but I believe the marines go thru much more advance training. Do not get me wrong the Army goes thru training but the marines are the first to go usually when we have a conflict.
Depending on the type of mission, different elite units are first to deploy. This includes Army Special Forces, Army Delta, Army Rangers, Navy Seals, and Marine Recon.
In the delayed entry program, my first PT and stuff i was overwhelmed a little not physically but mentally, like what did i get into? Yes in boot camp ill be treated like crap but diamonds are made under pressure and so are good soldiers and Marines. Learning to get the Marine attitude and embrace the suck. Its not an overnight transformation. Ship out date to be set for Oct. 2014 Recruiting station OKC
If your overweight and have to diet to get into the marines join another branch because what will happen is you will lose the weight in boot camp cause of the workout and diet they will put you on. Then when you are done with all your training and get to your new duty station and you don't diet and exercise because you want to relax when you get off work or have a life etc. and become overweight. Your command will make you get up everyday for the next 4 years at 5 am to PT while everyone else is sleeping. It will be hard. They have high standards and if they think you don't look right in your uniform your going to PT. Also same goes for if you fail the PT test. I did not have this problem but a lot of marines I know did and it sucks.
