Christian books or commentaries are little more that a form of discipleship. It is not a replacement for scripture, and PW would never claim as much. We read to gain a richer understanding of scripture from wiser men, who have received wisdom from God through experience, reading, and prayer. Are you against being taught the scriptures by your pastor? Are you against being disciplined by the church, which is made up of individual believers? I am blown away that you can hear a man like Paul speak, see his works, and conclude that he is Godless, and even moreso that you think anyone who reads or writes books cannot be a Christian. As far as I can tell, everything you have said so far is your own inclination, and not at all Biblical.

Do not continue to be deceived by him, and all the others just like him. There is no Biblical truth coming from the church, only lies, deception, and perversions of scripture. @@artistart55 The books are doing the same thing a sermon does, it is expositing and bringing out those truths and explaining them. Nehemiah 8:8 - and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.

Some of us try to humbly feed daily in the amazing Word of our Lord, but need someone else wisdom to understand some parts. Specially new converted brethrens. Said that, I'm very concerned that you may be attending a church, as you'd be looking anything other than the Bible when listening your pastor. Unless you're a pastor yourself, of course, in which case I hope you are not using any commentary or other resources for preparing your sermons, that would be a signal of you belonging to the world, and thus a false conversion on your part. But I'm sure that's not the case, right? By the way, lack of compassion and arrogance are other signals about a false conversion.

I would be. When the Holy Spirit comes into a genuine believer He wants us to know the truth of God. Being a convert is more than a mouthful, it is a way of life defined in the scriptures.

Inconsistent bible reading is either a a true christian but is slipping away and needs a loving rebuke and exhortation or a tare in the church

I think a good way to approach this is to talk about the Jesus you believe in and ask about who is this Jesus they believe in? :) no need to preach or compete about who knows Jesus better, but just talking and then together referring to the scriptures would be a good way to bring to light who Jesus says He is. Pray that Jesus would reveal Himself of course through His words. :)
