The fact that there is a teacher in California speaking about this openly gives me hope. Thank you both for your advocacy for sanity and children! And smxual health, which I agree, is absolutely part of a healthy adult life.

Great interview. I fervently hope this topic will finally be the one that brings Left and Right together and talking again. Keeping our children safe should be solidly bipartisan. 💚💚

Reallllllly nice to hear a life-long leftie speak out. Especially good to hear this coming from a teacher. Also, big props to the lesbian(s) in her life who gave the Mich Fest history and primer on loss of LGB community. Massive, massive props to her and all the lesbians who have been doing the difficult work of having one-on-one convos because those convos move the needle better than anything else.

😮I am so hopeful listening to this podcast and finally hearing someone else 🫤 not buying all this ideology. 🙌 I had a friend Meredith in hs who used to just deadpan: "Bullshit. I think you're lying." I gotta call her.

Ive heard of some schools having "gender affirming" clothes for kids to change into if their parents are unsupportive/theyre closeted. I find it crazy that schools are doing this behind parents backs because when I was admitted to a psych ward at fourteen (back when I was still trans) the staff wasn't allowed to use my preferred name or pronouns because my mom was unsupportive. My mental health hit a steep decline when I came out as trans mostly due to the treatment from my parents and I only felt better in the psych ward because I was away from them for awhile and around kids I could relate to so I get not wanting to "out" children to their parents but I don't think the staff should be transitioning kids in secret.

I can think of a few men that don't care, but they are the minority. My husband has shared the caring for our girls completely and so many fathers these days do. It sounds like Arienne's husband played an important role and equal participant in caring for her son too. Then there are so many 'caring women' who advocate strongly for pushing this cruel ideology onto children. I think we need, in this world, to unify as much as possible around our humanity. Identity politics seeks to divide. Lets not let that win.

Very interesting discussion. Thank you. As an aside, you can tell the women who have never been to MichFest, they pronounce it Mitch Fest. It's MichFest as in Michigan.

@@dawnharkness5389 honestly I’ve heard women who’ve been pronounce it and I still don’t hear the difference. But the could be my learning disability.

unfortunately no matter how progressive and feminist you raise your kids at the end of the day they get older, differentiate themselves from their parents and become influenced by society at large: media, p0rn, advertising, male peers, etc. daughters become better equipped to deal with the wider world if they’re raised by feminists but sons have less of an incentive to internalize feminist ideals since patriarchy benefits them at the end of the day (socially, culturally, economically, politically, etc.)

I'm not sure how this explains why feminist, progressive teacher's son wanted to transition to become a woman. Conservatives would argue that he learned it was unacceptable to be a male in this world. Other ideas?
