Ventifacts are "not" necessarily smooth...they are created by sand blasting action of the winds.. "smoothening" action is mostly related to fluvial process..But, here the 'vent" is created due to abrasive action of the sand... i haven't said anywhere that its smooth...where did you learn?
Smooth ventifacts may be result of combination of Aeolian and fluvial both the process...like if an ancient ventifact is now subjected to fluvial action due to stream flow, then it may get smoothened.. but normally they won't be smooth 🙂👍🌱
