As a matter of curosity I want to know the the Brand and model of your Air Pump, is it super silent, it is giving a large volume of water output along with its bubbles. which brand and model it is
Interesting set up with a large surface area. Does water come up on its own like a siphon or does the air pump provide some amount of suction effect. Good for beginners
My question the will the water inside the box circulate or the new water that id drawn by the pump flows out and the one in the bottom remains unmoved ?
is that gravity pump method , using gravity to pump water up so there is no electricity use? that is very smart. I make my own filter using plastic bottle and electric power head, but never use that method,
An air pump is all that's not shown on screen. You can find an air pump from any aquarium store or Amazon sells a decently quiet pump that comes with with check valves, which will be necessary if your air supply is set under the water line like his is and the power ever goes out. It also comes with air line and thicker air stones (which might not fit the same size plastic tube he used) and it's like $15. You could also buy name brand or get a used one somewhere. They're all pretty similar and generally last a long, long time. Place the pump on a rubber pad or a towel to knock out most of the vibration noise. Also looks like he glued some polycarbonate(?) bars on top of the aquarium to hold his setup, but if you have a lid, you might have to cut a bit, but you could figure out a way to set it up there instead. Probably wouldn't need check valves in that case, but they're still a good idea. Hope that helps. In the end, this is a lot like a diy sponge filter but with more surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. The air stone is doing the work. Hope that helps. :)
@@wheelbite14 Very detailed. Why an air pump though? Trickle filters that I've seen have submersible pumps. Air pumps would just sputter? After all is said and done though could just get a cheap internal filter instead, would look a lot better.
Why leave out the power supply for pump and how it's all installed and placed so neatly? That's imo one of the most important parts of this nice build, love it though for sure awesome I would just love to see how/where the power and pump is placed
Very nice, but it stands out visually, even with house plants covering it.. so doing this could be cheaper 🤷 but at what cost. It costs more to buy all those components individually and you never get small quantities, than to stick with the old-school setup. Not being a stickler.. it just doesn't make sense to me.
Use air bubbles to draw water into the filter box. Pro: air pump is more reliable than propeller motor. 👍 Simplified: No need for an air stone. Upturn the air tube at intake so that air bubbles are pointed upward.
