In this video, I look at Union Pacific and BNSF trains in Rochelle, IL. Rochelle is a railfan hotspot where the UP and BNSF cross at grade with frequent traffic coming and going from Chicago. The city of Rochelle has taken advantage of this by opening a railroad park at the diamond to provide railfans a safe and legal place to take in the action. This is by far one of the best railroad parks in the country.

A lot of history here. Way before UP and BNSF came to be in their present form. This crossing dates from the late 1800s, when the CB&Q (BNSF) built northwest to Minneapolis to compete with the Chicago & North Western (UP).

Thanks, I've been watching this intersection for years with the Trains Magazine web cam. I loved seeing the surrounding area with your drone. The large farm fields were a surprise.

I don't think I've ever seen a train this long! Man how many cars was he hauling? And I love hearing a train cross over a diamond. That is such a distinctive sound. Thanks for capturing all of this for us!

I have lived in Rochelle all my life. It only took a little over 5 minutes, that was a short one. I have seen them parked on the east side of town and stretch 3 miles to the next town of Creston. Nothing to see here. 😂

That is an awesome place for train watching. I used to go there when I livedin woodstock. There is a Culver's just a few minutes from there. It was a day trip that I loved. I would call my dad and he would watch me wave to him on the camera.

Had no idea that was just a wall blocking a parking lot. I always thought it was some industrial building. Cool shots. Don't get busted with your drone!!! LOL

That used to be a complete building. The wall is what's left.

Apparently, Illinois is the only state you can find all 6 Class I American and Canadian railroads.

The UP train at 9:30 (2 bay hoppers) isn't a grain train. That is a frac sand train

I don’t know if it was mentioned but your ground level shots at about 14:00 and at 17:00 were right next to the Virtual Railfan camera location; it’s to the right and slightly higher than your camera was. Also the park used to have a firepit almost at the Diamond end of the park, but it was removed last year-the remains can still be seen on the virtual Railfan camera.

I was directly under the cameras where I was. If people had been paying close enough attention last summer, I would have made an appearance

Every time I see one of your videos I always say that they are of awesome quality and they are absolutely beautiful! I always say that they are more than worthy of being used by railroads for public relations and for business purposes. Yes, they are that good! The only thing that would make this particular video even better would be for BNSF president and CEO Kathryn Farmer and her boss, Warren Buffett, to change the BNSF scheme and image to that of a certain iconic name and very famous paint scheme that has worldwide recognition: Santa Fe. The consonants and Halloween 🎃 colors just don’t do it! They only name and image that can stand up to Union Pacific’s famous name and image is that of the Santa Fe.

Loved the video, very professional. Having all that activity there is great for rail fans but it's probably a choke point for the RRs. Are there any plans to build a flyover?

I've never heard of any plans and any delays aren't that bad from what I've heard

In the 80's an overpass was built on 7th street ( US 251). Prior to this it was a long wait to cross the tracks

Trains long enough that the front end was leaving town before the rear end got into town. You've got me wondering why you wouldn't get trains of John Deere tractors in Florida. Isn't there a John Deere agent in the state? Has Florida banned John Deere from trading there? Don't Floridian farmers use John Deere products? Speaking of which, there were a whole raft of different rear axles on those tractors.
@RoamingRailfan
@RoamingRailfan 3 месяца назад
There are plenty of John Deere tractors and dealers in Florida but I’ve never personally seen any on trains in the state or in photos. I’ve seen another brand a few times but it’s by far a rarity.

@@RoamingRailfan Ah, I misinterpreted the wording. I guess then that these long trains get split up before penetrating the state.
