nice perspective. hard to imagine a time when everything was trees and wetlands followed by a time when it was all mostly all small farms with pasture for animals. so the world evolves. thanks

That's a true statement in farming. There are so many variables that can mess things up. Thanks for the comment and watching the videos.

I'm reminded of the tests that you did on the stockpiled grass and how much nutrition is waiting to be grazed. So amazing to see how different reality is from traditional thought.

Cool to see all the different divisions and rotations. You got quite a bit of stockpile. Do you feed hay to the sheep or is there enough stockpile? Thanks for sharing.
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 9 месяцев назад
We do hay the sheep our lambing season is off lambing in winter. We wanted to lamb in may but we seen a couple ewes get bred before we could get him out. Spring of 2025 we will lamb in may that will allow us to stay out longer. Thanks for watching!!

@@RussWilson picked fresh, lightly steamed with browned butter and a tiny bit of salt! In the spring, your clan could demo picking, snapping off the tough portion, and the ways you prep it. As well as the other garden crops that you mentioned, in their seasons...

Very well done. Are all the bigger rectangle fields divided with permanent fence and the you use temporary to divide further?
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 9 месяцев назад
Yes, absolutely we divide it down further moving twice a day most generally. Thank for Watching!!

Do you use the drone to check on the cattle to see if they are ready to be moved?
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the question! I do not check cows with the drone. I find just about as quick to run out to the pasture. Thanks For Watching!.

I see some of those fields are fairly open with no shade. Do you ever give them shade?
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 7 месяцев назад
That is a great question short answer yes. Long answer I will count respiration rates. If it goes above 100 breaths per minute i will take to them to shade for a few hours. then take the back out to pasture this is usually 1-3 if at all. We have called the heat stressors in the herd now we are usually good to 100 degrees with no shade. If we were to let them choose on there own. The animals will go stand in the shade for a few hours each day moving nutrients from the field to the woods. Where the forages can't use them. Thanks for watching!

Will the cattle eat stockpiled warm season natives?
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 9 месяцев назад
They will eat the native warm season stockpiled grasses. However it test really low in protein (2-4%). SO you would need to supplement some protein. Great Question! Thank For Watching!
