Aerobic Septic Systems - Did You Know?

Your New House

Septic tanks may handle a dirty business, but they serve an essential function for anyone building a house beyond the reach of a municipal infrastructure. Our segment features a miniature version of a municipal water treatment system that you can bury right in your back yard. This aerobic or aerated septic system offers all the benefits of a big-city water treatment plant. It’s safe, it’s clean, it conserves water and it helps keep your lawn healthy and green all at the same time.
Who needs a septic tank? If you’re building a house in a new subdivision or a rural area that does not offer municipal sewage lines, you need a septic tank. If you own a mobile home, you may need a septic system because in many situations, you cannot hook up to municipal sewer lines.

Pasteurized milk doesn’t work. The bacteria has been killed during the pasteurization process. Use yest packs. Let it ferment then dump it in. Or find some raw unpasteurized milk.

I have an anaerobic system with a drain field. After about 30 years, the first field became clogged and failed. I was lucky to have barely enough yard to install a new field, but when the new one fails, there is no more room for another field. I was happy to learn about this alternative. Hopefully the county will allow this type of system.
@JanTijmes
@JanTijmes 2 года назад
After a few years, 3 to 7, the old field can rejuvenate itself and function again if left alone. Alternatively, you can replace the field by digging out up and replacing it with exactly what was permitted before. Last option is install an alternate system either right on top of the old system or adjacent to it. Check county rules of course. But as long as there aren't wells or waterways, ie setback challenges, you're ok to keep replacing the old system.

3-5 years for pumping out for average home say 4 people 2-3 years for large home with 5 or more people for pumping out if you dont put a bunch of trash in it like paper towels , chemicals, oil, tampons, etc. manage your water usage over the week instead of using large amounts in a one or two day period . no mater what system you have these things are a must, plus maintenance is something you need to do but just keep up on the fee parts that make the system work and you will be good, Its not a bad system its just the lack of knowledge people have going into owning one as well as the people getting a new place to live and not really knowing what they have for a system and so on. check what you got and educate yourself as much as possible and you will be better off i promise. :)

Your first chamber -the trash tank - should much much larger, recommend a 1,000 to 2,000 gallons, so you don’t have to pump the sludge as often saving $$$, but also so that you can hold the water in in the tanks for at least three days and allow all of the anaerobic and aerobic bacteria to do their job in their respective - separate tanks before the wastewater leaves the last tank and enters the drain field.
@user-gq2vn1xj2r
@user-gq2vn1xj2r 7 месяцев назад
This is correct. Usually systems do have a 1000 gallon trash tank before this three chamber pre-treatment system.

Definitely check county regs. In my county we cannot irrigate our lawns with wastewater. I love the idea though, it's so awesome and cheap to do so. We use subsurface drip tubing that must be installed in native soils.

Question, what would cause the pump breaker to trip after running for about 7-10 minutes? Bad pump?
@richardowens9061
@richardowens9061 2 года назад
The pump breaker tripping is an indication of blockage in the air diffuser. The pump is having to work harder to pump air through the diffuser, which causes the pump to draw more current and heat up, which causes the pump breaker to trip. The solution is to clean or replace the air diffuser.

Exactly this tank system is high maintenance compared to other systems. If they designed it with a 600main solids tank and a 600 baffled for the other 2 processes it still wouldnt make sense but it would be less maintenance for this type of system but issue is a gravity system with a 1200 baffled tank and standard infiltrator field of 2000sqft on 3 foot center to center separation would handle most homes in most locations and depending on the products used in the home IE soap powders, chemical, and such it could go 20 years before needing pumped and provided the field is done right and grandpa dont run over it with a backhoe or a root system doesnt get into it, it could last a long time. I get the purpose and see the need for this system where people dont have the yard space for a proper drain field but i dont condone this system it is just as much of a problem as the foam peanut filled sock pipe that was touted to be the new thing and failed big time whole communities had to replace there systems in 10 years over that crap. While this one may not need to be replaced it will always need to be repaired those stones will clog and blow around the fact he can spin it on the pipe means they knew that and left a gap for air to pass, the air pump will wear quickly standard non grinding lift pumps are NOT designed to have back pressure taht sprinklers will cause. High pressure dosing PTI systems are engineered specifically in length of pressure pipe, spacing, and size of holes are all considered due to the pumps design limitations of back pressure and also why a 5lb spring check valve is needed but makes the pumps struggle thus even a good pump has a life of 3-5years and NO ONE buys good pumps so use the flap style checks. Code enforcements all over the world are costing home owners millions of dollars forcing them into pumps, mounds, and shite like shown in the video... If you get to choose go with non low profile infiltrator field or carefully installed gravity pti fields and have your installer put enviro cloth layers on ends and both ends to have concrete or rock to lock the headers front and rear. Dont bother with strainers if they are code put them in and when inspection is done pull the strainer filter out of the T. If you can install a grey water system for the washing machine the washing machine discharge is detrimental to bacteria that you want to proliferate in the solid side of the tank you could also plumb this to the wet side of tank to avoid slowing bacteria. Have you seen the price of a gallon of milk? Drink that shit dont put it in the toilet. But hey it is your dollar what do i know i only installed these crap catchers for 25years while this guy in the video was in college for a PHD in Economic Disfunction and a Minor in photography.

I grew up in Jamaica seeing some 15- 22 feet deep width about 8 to 10 feet at the top going down in a cone shape to is norrowest point at the bottom about 5 feet. packed with some good sized stones on the walls only and those pits last for generations without any maintenance. My granddad digged a 20 footer more than 80 years ago ( latrine) then upgraded to clay pipes some time after flush toilet became common about 3 years the clay pipes started to collapsing and I ran pvc the when I opened it and measured the slush it was less that 3 feet soil percolation is excellent the only problem I found was about a billion cock roaches was inside the pit

Only in America do we use this expensive system of disposing waste with clean fresh water. Crazy, maintenance for ever, permits, inspections, pumping . Use a composting toilet, use all the gray water for your plants, trees, vegetable garden. Stop paying for flushing poop down the drain. Just my opinion.

So after spending all that money, having the trash tank emptied way more than a regulars septic system, paying for electricity of pumping air constantly, paying for electricity of running a sprinkler system. To kill all the beneficial bacteria that you just composted..... So instead of being healthy fertilized water for your lawn, now you just spraying your yard was chlorinated pool water. Because that's great for grass....

Do you shower with it that toilet water?
@ricoludovici2825
@ricoludovici2825 2 года назад
You already are showering with toilet water if you are on a city system. They filter and chlorinate it. But yeah, that's what it is. And that is exactly what you are doing when you shower on a cruise ship. They use the same water over and over again with the help of a UV purification module. Here, you could add a UV purifying system. Just like on a cruise ship. It is a clear pipe with sun collector behind it. I'm told the water comes out a little salty. But that can be helped with an osmotic filter. Like the kind under the sink in your house.

The plumbing section at most big hardware store have septic tablets. Don't use pool tablets because they claim it'll react violently, you want to find calcium hypochlorite (CaCOCl2) tablets or Liquid sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) if you have a liquid chlorination device. Around my area chlorination is only recommended/required on aerobic spray systems.

WHY do you "want" folks to have an "aerobic" treatment system. You know this uses the activated sludge treatment process, right? And you know that process is inherently unstable, and is probably the WORST sort of high quality pretreatment unit you could choose in the on-lot operating environment, right? Consider instead the recirculation packed-bed filter treatment unit instead. That is realistically controllable in the on-lot operating environment, so will consistently and reliably produce the "advertised" effluent quality. And it's looney tunes to assert this water is "safe" to disperse in an uncontrolled environment. So just where are you coming from?
