Alan Adler gives a speech about coffee and the AeroPress coffee maker at CoffeeCon San Francisco in 2014.
Unlike a French press coffee maker, AeroPress coffee makers brew grit-free coffee and are easy to clean up. Unlike an espresso coffee machine, they are simple and easy to use. They can even be used as a cold brew coffee maker to make cold brew in just two minutes!

I love how Alan just naturally explains things and adds things to the talk I'd have never thought about when considering coffee. I had no idea for instance, that paper made a difference in lipid content. It makes sense, paper absorbs and changes something whereas metal mesh will just let it fall through. Also didn't really even think to look up coffee and cholesterol content. For some reason I thought coffee was cleaner. lol. All that to say I got an AeroPress yesterday and can't stop looking things up on it. I feel like I'm a little insane but my coffee friends told me it would change how I approach getting that brew. Such a wonderful and positive thing. The hiss as you press, the fresh scent, the slightly oily and rounded flavor, the lower acid content. I can drink coffee all day without sugar and not get an upset stomach after one mug of typical machine brewed drip. That to me is just so darn cool. Be well everyone. And thank you Alan Adler for helping me find my love for coffee all over again. ;

Loved the posting! I thought Alan's approach to solving a problem fantastic. He is a very interesting person. This video should used by every engineering school in the country because it demonstrates how an engineer goes about designing solutions that satisfy a person's problem. Build a better mousetrap and world will notice. Make a simple and effective coffee maker and the world will be knocking down your door. Did you notice it only comes in one color?

Wow he made the Aerobie as well? Man that was an amazing frisbee which I spent many days enjoying with my beloved dad and friends during my childhood. Thanks sir. Ps. On the matter of coffee, there is a reason why Italians generally all own a stove top espresso pot - usually they produce the espresso in about a minute & it’s quite simple to get a nice crema, that said it is most likely quite a lot hotter hence more bitter perhaps but I have definitely found the Aeropress to be about equally as simple. The aeropress is quite a tidy process whereas clearing the puck from a traditional pot can create mess as well as the process of opening it after just using is a high injury risk. I bought my Aeropress recently & have been experimenting with brew methods & lack of bitterness is really noticeable. Thank God for brilliant inventors like Alan Adler 🙌

I always drink Americano but in the video, from the basics, Mr Alan suggests to fill the AP up to #2 when using 1 spoon of coffee. This is interesting because I was using 1 by 1, 1 scoop of coffee and filling up to #1 Then dilute with water to achieve Americano strength. Interesting. Gonna try using double water next time!

While politicians talk how to make America great again, Alan Adler already is doing America great. I saw Aeropress in any country where I lived or traveled - Persian Gulf countries as UAE, Oman, and Kuwait or in post-Soviet countries, where I am from originally. Not to mention of The World AeroPress Championship! The most important thing for me was the manufacturer's inscription - Made in America! I am sure it's one of the best ways how to make America great again. No need in saber-rattling or propaganda for war, just work as Alan Adler! It’s the best way how to make America great again. Just try to reinvent something American and put an inscription - Made in America, how Alan Adler did it. One of the best way to take on the world, how, for example, as does China. Aren't you tired of Made in China?! In my humble opinion, Alan Adler is one of great Americans of our time.

I've tried several other ways and will continue to use AeroPress, not going back to french press or that single mess basket or slow drip brew through linen or anything else. For the past 5 years I've been telling folks, you gotta try this! you gonna love this!

I have used it for a flash brew ( Japanese Ice Coffee ) and it works great! Hot concentrate brewed over a cup of ice. I was hoping someone would have asked you about that. I have been a bit of a coffee geek for a while and I always enjoy using it among a few other devices. I do wish it came in a bigger size as well but I suppose I can’t have everything.

That coffee oil- cholesterol raising part of this blew my mind. I'd heard it before but didn't think it was that significant. That is literally life changing info. Spend decades drinking espresso and die of congestive heart failure, or use paper filter and maybe don't. Mind blowing. I used my Aeropress religiously for years then put it away, been using an espresso machine since. I'll be putting the espresso machine away and dusting off the Aeropress. Because I want to live.

I can not seem to get my grind size right because my coffee seems to be either too bitter or too sour. My other question is why is it so big if you only need 1-2 scoops of coffee and only fill the vessel to the 1-2 mark? It seems like the aeropress could be quite a bit smaller.
@MrDarren690
@MrDarren690 2 года назад
They do actually have a smaller AeroPress called the AeroPress Go. In my experience, the extra space in the chamber helps the plunging (harder to press the liquid than the air), and helps make multiple servings where you might go up to 3, 4 scoops and have to dilute after.

@humanormachine2936

From what I've read, non paper filters don't filter out the cafestol, a substance in coffee that causes the body’s “bad” cholesterol levels (LDL) to rise. I haven't looked into peer reviewed research on this subject yet, as I'm just now learning about it myself.

Has anybody figured out what the numbers on the plunger correspond to?
@techguy9023
@techguy9023 4 года назад
pterafirma he mentioned that if you put in one scoop of coffee fill with water to the one mark. Four scoops of coffee fill to the four for multiple cups
@pterafirma
@pterafirma 4 года назад
@@techguy9023 - Read my question again (and look closely at your aeropress if you have one). Numbers _on_ _the_ _plunger._ Not the numbers on the cylinder. I knew somebody would half-read my question and state the obvious, but I've yet to meet anyone who can give a logical explanation of the markings on the plunger.
@techguy9023
@techguy9023 4 года назад
pterafirma sorry mine is old. I just looked at the plunger- no numbers. I think mine is about 8 years old. Production run number ?
@pterafirma
@pterafirma 4 года назад
@@techguy9023 - Don't know production run, but I bought mine ca. 2008. Apparently, according to something I just now found, the intent was that you could also pour water into the back end of the plunger itself, using it to measure. I'm not sure how it could ever make sense to do so, since you subsequently must pour it into the cylinder anyway. And when I tested this theory, the volumes marked on the plunger didn't quite match the amount of water needed to supplement the equivalent scoops of coffee, and fill to the cylinder markings, so... it's still a minor mystery. And finally, according to what I just read, Aeropress later discontinued the plunger marks because people were reportedly using it as a heating vessel in the microwave oven.

Before making the first brew he put one AP coffee spoon and then he says fill up to 2 because I put in 2? Some one e explain
@Reksal
@Reksal 5 лет назад
He meant for an americano. If it's espresso, he would fill to just 1 (for 1 scoop). So the easiest way to remember is fill up to the number of scoops. If it's americano, then double it.
@sebuc
@sebuc 4 года назад
Yes, Lacker Saw is right. If you’re making espresso-style coffee (to drink as is or to construct other drinks), the amount of scoops is equal to the number you fill up to. For example, if I added one rounded scoop of espresso ground coffee to the coffee maker, I would pour up to the number one listed on the outside of the cylinder. If you’re making drip coffee, or American coffee as Mr. Adler says, pour up to the number 1 above the number of scoops. For example, if I added one rounded scoop of espresso ground coffee to the coffee maker, I would pour up to the 2. If you have fine drip coffee, it is trickier. To brew coffee, you need 1.5 level scoops of grounds instead of 1. For example, if I wanted to brew 2 servings of espresso with fine drip coffee, I would add 3 level scoops but only pour up to 2. But if you were brewing drip coffee, you need to pour to one more than the amount of scoops. If I wanted to brew my 7th cup of coffee, I would add in 1.5 level fine drip grounds but pour water up to 2.5 or even 3. Hope this helps; the AeroPress team is quite vague on the nit picky specifications of scoops:water number ratio.
