Are you still trying to decide between the Aeropress and the Hario V60? They both make coffee, but using fairly different extraction methods. Do you mostly brew coffee at home, or while traveling and on the go? This video could help you choose the right brewer for you, from taste, to ease-of-use, to portability.

As much as I love my V60 if I could only have one brewer it would be my aeropress. I can make a simple cup of coffee for just me or make a concentrate and dilute it for myself and friends. I can also use that concentrate for a latte or cappuccino like drink for my wife. It is packable and portable. I also find it more consistent (I am clumsy with a kettle, well heavy handed). Anyway, just randomly stumbled upon your channel. Will have a look at your other videos too.

Hey, nice vid and chill vibes. I revisited the AP recently after sort of disliking it and found that I could dial it in closer to a v60-style cup with a few tricks from a few other friends 1. I don't do the suction trick to keep the water mixed with the grinds, I let it drip thru like a perc brew 2. I think the lack of bypass water means that you get a higher strength beverage all things else kept the same, so replicating the thin mouthfeel of a v60 involves a tiny bit of dilution, or perhaps going a bit coarser, maybe both 3. I don't swirl or stir the AP to mix, I just aim the kettle, probably gentle agitation keeps the brew tasting nice and clear 4. after letting things drip thru, partially I keep the contact time equalized between a v60 brew by starting to press super, super gently and let the bed filtration do a lot of the heavy lifting. Pressing real quickly pushes more stuff thru those regular AP filters I think, probably takes me a minute to press The v60 is still what I reach for when I'm brewing 18-30g, but the AP handles those smaller dosed brews from 10-18g really well imo

Ive seen people use a v60 paper in the black plastic hexagonal tube placed inside top of the aeropress and then put their ground coffee in that and pourover that way, and with a filter also placed in aeropress tube it does a double filtration drip through. I havent tried this but i thought that was quite handy!

I have a Aeropress and a OXO. In your video what water temp did you use for the Aeropress?

I'm surprised your Aeropress time was only 2 minutes! I always do 3 with the inversion method but I think I'll try the right-side up and see if it tastes lighter.

I usually do a shorter brew time because the added pressure extracts faster

In terms of the price I think you should also keep in mind that with cheap v60 you still neeed a pouring kettle which costs significantly more than the regular kettle, when with the aeropress you can use any kettle. upd: v60 filter papers are more expensive:)

Yes it's true, there are more costs and compromises involved. Good point!

You can use a normal kettle. Place a teaspoon at the spout to reduce the flow. Or after the bloom just do a quick pour and agitate. V60 is great for my work coffee.

Your point about the kettle is fair. However, it’s worth noting that the price of the V60 is heavily dependent on your location. Here in Canada, it cost me more than $40 for a V60, so I was pretty upset when a small bump caused the glass carafe to shatter. However, on a trip to Japan I found a new V60 filter base and glass carafe for about $12 total. V60 isn’t meant to be an expensive product. Amazon deceptively says free shipping, but you’re really paying $30 shipping on a $12 product in the case of a V60 setup. The Aeropress is like $50 USD even in America, where it’s made.

You should get the V60 tattooed on the other arm 😊

Love the coffee from the Aeropress. But I’m short (so I don’t have the proper leverage on bc of counter height) and not particularly strong. And trying to push that coffee first thing in the am w the hassle of getting two young school age kids ready for school and I’m totally exhausted and uncoordinated has caused several mishaps. Sometimes I was so tired I used my head to help push the coffee down. After a few months I went to a Nespresso. Press a button and come back to a brewed cup. No thinking and no muscle work. Now that I have more time to make a better cup of coffee so I’m investigating the Hario. This was an interesting comparison 😊

Haha I love the head press trick. I hear you though. Maybe you could make it easier in the aeropress by grinding coarser, usually an easier press. Try the pour over though. If you’re busy, can usually get a brew with two pours max

great vid, although the audio was poor. re. brewing methods,, I regularly swap between my AP and a Clever dripper, mostly depending on roast level (AP is good for lighter roasts)

Maybe the voice audio its echoei , due to mic placement, little bit audio voice treatment , and the room space

The V60 also requires a pouring kettle that the aero press does not

True, kettle is not as important with aeropress
