The story I heard is that the song was originally going to be Cruising For A Lady but he was hanging out in a bar and saw a hot chick from behind. He went to talk to her and when she turned around it was Vince Neil, the singer for Motley Crue. The rest of the Crue were there, too and he ended up hanging out with them all night. They kept using the word "dude" every 2 minutes and that cracked him up. The combination of events caused him to rewrite the song. Not sure if that's true, but it is the story I heard.

There are so many great rock bands, but you just have to love the ones with this kind of energy. Aerosmith and AC/DC are two of the best.

My favorite songs by Aerosmith are Janie’s Got a Gun, What it Takes, Crazy, Cryin’, Dude (Looks Like a Lady), Angel, Rag Doll, Livin’ on the Edge, Amazing, The Other Side, Young Lust, and Walk this Way (with Run DMC).

They still killin it, just seen them in vegas a couple months ago, stevens still running around the stage like that at 74 and joe still amazing at the guitar. #livinlegends

One of my favorites.

Aerosmith has a lot of high energy songs. The lead singer does a lot of crazy things on stage. I don't know the back story of this song, or too much about them in general. To me, they made a lot of commercial songs, meaning they did music that they knew would be popular. "Dream On" and "Love In An Elevator" were songs by them that I liked. Years ago I worked in a factory with all guys. A new guy was hired who wore skin tight faded jeans, and had long blond hair. I met him before he went down to the production floor. He was working facing the wall, the guys in the shop were drooling over his butt, then they started whistling and all. They all thought the company had finally hired a woman to work on the production floor. I didn't say nothing, just laughed inside. When the new guy turned around to see what all the whistling was about, and the guys who were making comments and whistling saw he was a guy they all looked like they seen a ghost LOL. I was cracking up, those guys felt stupid and it was hilarious. For a long time after that, when the guy with the tight pants walked by me an any of the guys in the shop, I used to point at the guy's butt and wink at my coworker to remind him of that day LOL, it was a lot of fun. I loved watching your reaction - reminded me of the first time I saw the video back in 1988. The song was inspired by Vince Neil of the rock band Motley Crue whose glam makeup looked very feminine... at least that's how I heard it. I'm sure there are lots of other origin stories.

All I think of when I here this song is Mrs Doubtfire.

80's Aerosmith very commercial but some good songs this one, Love in an elevator, Janie's got a gun. Not as gritty as early Aerosmith but both Pump and Permanent Vacation are good albums

I think this song was written after the band went to a gay bar where the male staff dressed like women. Dunno for sure tho.
