AeroVee Engine History: SuperVee to AeroVee

I just put a deposit down on an AeroVee-powered Sonex. I have some apprehension about the AeroVee, but feel much better about it after watching this presentation!

I've been flying AeroVee S/N 126 and AeroCarb 358 for 15 years. I have also flown 3 other AeroVee engines in other people's airplanes thru the years including two first flights. Its been a ton of fun! I have only met John a few times in passing but its always great to listen to him. I hadn't seen this webinar since it first came out and it was great to listen again. Thank you John for all your contributions to our Sport!

Them VW engines where pretty tough. That's looks like a damn good setup.

Wow what a great webinar! Learned a lot.

With 20+ years driving VW air-cooled engines, my worst experience was a loose exhaust valve insert (it sounds like death knocking),but I kept driving (about 100 miles) I pulled the head staked in a new insert and drove it another couple of years. Bulletproof! The single port head might have a better exhaust flow. SU carbaretors has a wide variety of fuel mixture needles.

It seems the Aerovee and the Revmaster are one in the same engine.

I've got a hummel bird with a mosler cb-40. Would it be possible to fit the aerovee 12v ignition to this engine?

gas engines are fun and sound wonderful. VWs can crank out hundreds of hp and are almost indestructable (although they sound like hell when a valve seat insert falls out,but they run on anyway) I'd like to build a flathead for the engine Yamaha has developed new electric motors with all the hp and torque you can use at very low weights, they even sound scary (like somebody tearing paper). Graphene supercapacitors may outperform gas imagine refueling in two seconds!

Serious question: is it feasible to make it turn the opposite direction for us non-russian pilots with a trained right foot? I know adapting would be a simple matter of repetition but I would like to know if it is possible to turn clockwise like a Cont or Lyc

Why does the mustang or any ww2 plane have 4 blades if they aren’t any good?
