I was fortunate enough to spend some time on the S-Works Aethos earlier this year and bone stock (including the power meter) it weighed 6.23kg. That wasn’t with pedals, cages of head unit and I didn’t bother to weigh it with those parts or the handlebar bag I ran for the long rides I did. However, I echo your sentiments; it’s a typical elite level light bike going uphill but point it the other way and prepare to be amazed. A bike that light has no right to be that planted. Now I’m trying to justify the frankly heinous cost, because I WANT one.
it's not going to be the same, but, is the bike with the most similar profile and geometry i know, on a budget ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SosNnpzLe-w.html&ab_channel=JasperVerkuijl
I’ve just built an S Works Aethos and like you I absolutely love it, just love how it handles, climbs, decends. After years of aero bikes and chasing goals it’s refreshing to have something that just makes every ride more enjoyable
Interesting comment you make. I am hesitating between SL8 and Aethos, being very light myself, I am afraid the SL8 might be harder to ride for me, as I dont put as much power as Remco Evenepoel... However I do love climbing and spinning legs at a high rpm. Whats your feedback now after some time riding the Aethos? How does it perform on flat and short climb? I dont ride competition and mostly go out for pleasure of riding a bike. Thats why i think a comfy bike for long days out on the bike might be better for me
I've ridden lots of Tarmacs, but not an SL8 yet, but I absolutely love my Aethos. I may have tried to convince my dad who doesnt compete on the road to get an Aethos over an SL7 Tarmac. Did you decide on one or the other yet?
Just stumbled on your awesome crux video. I have one too and have been ridding it in road mode with 32's. Now I am wondering if I need an Aethos! Keep the great content coming, I enjoy your perspective. 🚴✨✨
I built almost the exact same bike but with one step lower components. 10R frame vs 12R, Rapide CLII vs CLX wheels, Power Pro Mirror saddle vs SWorks. Same handlebar. Full Ultegra Groupset. LOVE the bike.
Beautiful, beautiful bike! I am Specialized/SRAM head, so I dig your selection 100%. Love the matching fork & derailleur cage. Did't like the cranks though😒... You can look elsewhere (but more expensive like Clavicula) and look better. This bike is a beast! It's light but stable, classic looking but modern, stiff but so comfortable!! I must note: very sharp looking kit you got there! Although my style is more austere (i.e. Assos) I dig it, it's unusual. Man, I wish you good health and enjoy your rides with this gem! Greetings from Greece.
Thank you very much! I agree, I love the bike; looks good, rides great. A Clavicula would definitely be cool, those are beautiful! And the kit is definitely loud haha. Greece seems like a rad place to ride!
Excellent work on the video and review. I’m curious - I’ve just ordered an S Works Aethos to replace my S Works SL6. Neither will have integrated cables but the SL6 has some aero tubes (not bar or stem). I’m hoping that with a wheel swap like you’ve done and either an integrated rapide cockpit or aero bar I’ll get those aero gains back somewhat to lesson the impact of going non aero. I’m a fast rider, love a sprint and descents but don’t race. Regularly like sitting on the front of the group churning out 350w for a few minutes at 35/40kmh. I’ve probably bought the wrong bike for that but hey I wanted something different too lol
Great video. I’ve just got an Aethos Pro with Roval Rapide wheels and am considering a future cockpit upgrade like yours. Are you happy with your Alpinist cockpit or would you go for the more aero Rapide version if you had the choice?
DUDE your joyful approach to cycling and how fun this video is is so refreshing! Is there somewhere I can learn more about the Feral Catz team, and maybe order your kit to support you (and also look incredible doing it)?
Thanks so much! That’s very kind of you! You can check us out on Instagram or our website (@teamferalcatz). We’ll open up a store soon but we’ll share more on both those places!
I have both wheel sets. Alpinist so much nicer and better handling on this frame. Just feels more playful with the alpinists. Better acceleration also.
@@TeamFeralCatz great bike. had the epic evo. wc much better pedal platform. fast. much sharper handling. need to dial in suspension to get there but once sorted, awesome.
I love my Aethos, I also have a Trek Madone SLR and the Aethos with the same wheels as your bike is just as fast as the Madone Aero bike with myself riding it and way more comfortable, plus climbs better than the fat Madone, most riders don’t need aero optimised bikes, it makes me laugh when I see aero bikes, with deep wheels but loads of spacers under the stem and the shifters turned up 😂 thinking the aero bike makes them fast 😂🙈🤪
This is up American Fork Canyon in Alpine. During the summer this is open up to the top and down the other side past Sundance resort. It’s a great canyon!
What are your thoughts on tubolitos? I came across a statement that they are prone to punctures, but it turns out they are not. How was your personal experience with them?
Sorry for the late response to this but I've actually quite liked them. The lightest weight ones may be slightly more prone to punctures, maybe easier to pinch flat but they also have thicker ones that are still lighter than normal and I've been running those with great success. And I love to use them as spares because they are so much smaller.
If you read the instructions for the bars or the bike cant remember. You could damage the stearer tube. I think these bars are 5mm bigger on the tube than a standard stem so if you add a spacer, you could be tightening the bars directly onto the tube and not the expander. The result could be catastrophic failure.
