Jeeps and aftermarket bumpers go hand in hand but few offer benefits without sacrifices. A lightweight compared to any other offerings with the same features, the AEV rear bumper maximizes departure angle and offers chassis-mounted, tubular steel corner protection for the rear quarter sheet metal. Chassis mounted Nodular iron recovery points for easy rigging of ¾” anchor shackles, rotomolded corners reduce added weight and a molded step pad is included for secure footing when accessing your cargo are all added while still preserving the Park Assist functionality. 37's and 40's are no problem with the bumper / frame mounted tire carrier which still keep the one handed tailgate operation intact. That's a lot of functionality but its far from a basic product. Check out the complete install to appreciate the design and construction put into this product.
This is moderate installation and you should give yourself 3-4 hours to do this with basic hand tools. Power tools will improve your install time dramatically.

You do great work. I don't have the patience for a bumper like AEV.

Thank you and thanks for watching. It takes a good deal of time but the results make it all worth while. I don't think there is another bumper that has the preservation of factory functions in mind while being only as much as it needs to be. Good Design, great fit and finish and if the DIY install is not an option the best part is that AEV has authorized dealers to make sure you can get it installed the right way.

Wow. Thank goodness I avoided the sensors when I ordered my Willys!

Just ordered mine . Cant seem to find any videos on installing a 3 inch cube light onto the AEV rear bumper. I went ahead and order the aev bracket light and a 3 inch cube light from oracle lighting and i got those before the bumper and the bracket seems too small to hold this oracle cube light.

The AEV bumper light provision is tight. it was designed for the Baja Designs squadron but will fit others close to it in size. I have also personally fit the Rigid D-series pod in that area but if another light housing is larger than either of those you might have some fitment issues. I am not familiar with Oracle products enough to say either way. As far as installation goes, be prepared to remove the center bumper panel if you don't have a lot of manual dexterity and you hand doesn't fit easy. Its much tighter back there if you have the factory hitch installed as well. I was able to fit the BD squadron but patience in tightening the mounting bracket is necessary. Good luck!

Awesome video! Thanks for the walkthrough. I am wondering how do you remove the 3rd brake light to access the spare tire? In addition to that, I read that you could equip a shovel behind the tire. Can you confirm that? Thanks!

It is a clip on. Just grab the 2 tabs, pull them unplug. Yes a full size shovel can fit behind the tire.

I’m really curious if this bumper would fit on a JT

Thank for watching but I am going to have to say no, at least not bolting up. The rear portion of the Gladiator frame and the Wrangler JL/JLU are completely different so supporting the swing arm would require extensive fabrication. Additionally the side tubular protection bars would not line up to the frame the same and you have to deal with quite a few other cosmetic details like hitch and such that would not line up.

What happened to your Bison???
@exhaustinglife
@exhaustinglife Год назад
I go through vehicles every couple years. I like modifying them and using the latest goodies in the aftermarket "toy box," so nothing stays around too long. With the new ZR2 Bison around the corner, I might be back in market for another truck but it all depends on how crazy the dealership situation is. I was supposed to replace the Colorado with the Silverado ZR2 but I wasn't about to pay the $5k market adjustment at the time.

How do you adjust the carrier for a larger tire? I want to run a 38 inch tire but can’t find any videos or instructions on how to fit a larger tire. Is it just the one bolt on the back? Need to adjust the bolts for the lugs since the tire is going to be wider.

@exhaustinglife 5 месяцев назад
The adjustment of the tire carrier is more about the width of the wheel and tire combo. Ill go into the exactly why the wheel and tire matters in a second. The overall diameter is limited at 40" inches from a load capacity and physical interference issue due to diameter. On the swing arm of the carrier you will see there are 2 bolts to adjust. 1 bolt is to lock in the swing arm square tube "receiver" to the wheel face mount square tube that slides inside so it doesn't rattle and stabilize the load. The primary bolt is the long one that passes through the middle and determines the distance from the inner face of the spare tire to the inside face of the wheel. This is why the specific wheel and tire combo is important. The limiting width of the mount is dependent on both the width of the tire AND the offset. As you can imagine the more positive the offset (flatter/no dish wheel face) the less wide a tire can be mounted. The more past a 0 offset or more negative offset (big lip/deep dish wheel face) the closer the wheel mount will be to the swing arm structure. I don't think the instructions created a tire size based limit as it would be impossible with tire companies varying actual tire widths to numbers. I hope that helps and thank for tuning in.

Thank you for your reply. I was able to loosen the 2 bolts to bring out the studs more, and I’m happy to report I fit a 38x13.5x17 Nitto Trail Grappler on the carrier, and it sits flush with the fuel caddy and the metal tube.

Just realized I have to remove my HD hinges =(
@exhaustinglife
@exhaustinglife 2 месяца назад
I am not sure that you do. Most of the HD hinges are fine so long as the center plate area can allow for the connection point of the turn buckle that attaches to the swing. Send me some pictures or a link to the kind of HD set-up and ill see if I can overlay some data. I'm pretty good with CAD.

Now that you've had the lift for a while how dose it ride compared to stock? I'm considering this lift I really like the 8100 series shocks paired with the aev 2.5 inch kit.
@exhaustinglife
@exhaustinglife Год назад
It is far from stock as far as my subjective evaluation of the Stock vs AEV experience goes. From a comfort level it is more plush but its solid without being harsh over speedbumps or unexpected potholes. It handles well all things considered. Fully loaded I'm about 6100 lbs. and on the street daily I'm closer to 5800 lbs. Its not top heavy in the corners and it settles in with a little speed or throttling out. It's very predictable and lacks that "floppy Jeep" feel of an all out rock crawling machine. I am extremely happy having driven a 5100 equipped AEV Jeep this week at the EJS event. I am very satisfied with the 8100s and even more so with some speed on the packed dirt ... it's a SFA machine not the old supercharged IFS Colorado ZR2 but it does surprisingly well.
