AEW’s Biggest Homegrown Success: The Acclaimed 

AEW Dark and Elevation were fantastic because it gave acts practice and ring time. The Acclaimed, Julia Hart's dark persona, Private Party and more all got time to develop.

That "Oral Sessions" line to Jon Moxley about Renees podcast was genius.

I miss Dark in general but especially during the pandemic era. Taz and Excaliur were Magic on the mic. Great wrestling. It's how I like my Wrestling shows I guess. Watching the entire rise of these two has been Phenominal. At my first AEW Show in Hamilton I bought a Scissor Me Shirt. Thank you for giving them their flowers.

I won't lie, they took awhile to reach me. I remember laughing off the Acclaimed name when they were new (acclaimed by who?) and disagreeing with "everybody loves the Acclaimed". But they've 100% won me over. They're good, they're fun, they're endearing, and as a gay fan i'm so proud of them. 💖

The Scissor Me thing has always reminded me of the Al Snow What does everybody want thing. Both vulgar and yet both funny and fun to chant.

The Acclaimed’s rise to the top is one of my favorite stories in AEW. Going from Dark in the pandemic era, all the way to now, being one of the greatest tag teams in AEW history full of raucous awesome crowds, and their awesome gimmicks, it’s just mind blowing to see. I always look forward to seeing them. I love hearing Max Caster’s raps/roasts (my personal favorite being the mention of Dominik to Buddy Matthews at Double or Nothing 2023😂🤣), Anthony Bowen’s hype attitude with every crowd they go to, and then Billy Gunn’s addition as Daddy Ass was just the cherry on top😊. Their feuds with the likes of The Gunns and Swerve In Our Glory were awesome, and it made me love them all the more. Truly an awesome team, and I can’t wait to see more of them in the years to come.😁

One thing thats not often mentioned is Danhausen basically being the catalyst for their rise. His feud with them and the guns + creating the ass boys/daddy ass names really drew a lot of attention.

i miss dark and dark elevation. i hope once they get that Max deal for streaming, that they add a new version of dark for an exclusive show on Max

Watching The Acclaimed's organic rise to the top from the very beginning has been one of the coolest experiences in my almost 35+ years as a fan of pro wrestling. That Chicago crowd at All Out 22 was career changing for them, and reminded me of the type of electric support only seen very rarely on such a large stage. Should have called an audible that night.

The one team I really loved watching in the early AEW days was Private Party. Isiah was my favorite at that time. Remember when they even beat the bucks? But unfortunately I have forgotten everything about them now. Really hoping that they can regain their popularity. Great video as always Mr. Tranquilo.

Fun fact: Bowen just improv'd "Scissor Me Daddy Ass" the night he introduced it. No approval from tony or nothing. Little did he realize, it would go on to become one of the funniest catchphrases in the last decade. Goddamnit, I love these idiots.

The Acclaimed are the best tag team i´ve seen born during all my life watching prowrestling, they didn´t need controversys to grow, didn´t need an incredible performance to be recognized for the best wrestlers as a promise, and they didn´t need to be overbooked to be appreciated for the AEW fans... They were the first AEW originals being Tag Team Champions... Scissors Crew till the end... Everybody Loves the Acclaimed.

I remember watching them on Dark and I just naturally liked them. I’m glad they’re getting the love since they visibly got better in Ring too. Billy Gunn needs a lot of credit in taking them under his wing.

I remember when everyone tried to cancel them because they didnt understand where battle rap came from or what the usual substance is thats contained in it. Its always gonna hit, but sometimes its gonna hit something YOU dont like. And thats what makes it raw and authentic.

I was a fan of The Acclaimed when they were heels wrestling on Dark. Max Caster had some hilarious diss songs and their pops got louder when AEW went back on the road after the pandemic. I was so happy when they turned face and bought Billy Gunn into the group getting over with the “ Scissor Me Daddy Ass “ and then eventually winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The Acclaimed are truly one of the best homegrown stars in AEW’s history

I watched Dark through the pandemic and I remember commenting on one of the videos that I watched for The Acclaim. I didn't expect them to blow up so quickly.

Jokes aside, The Acclaimed have that rare thing with seemingly thrown-together tag team, chemistry. Like I can't imagine the acclaimed having worked if you swapped out one member or the other. Bowens is able to go and Caster somehow made the diss rap gimmick work despite people just calling him a cena rip off for ages. I don't know whose idea it was to pair them with the Gunns. TK, Billy or Bowens and Caster but whoever made the suggestion is a genius.

Like the Macho Man said, "The cream always rises to the top". I personally enjoyed the hell out of AEW Dark and Elevation. I have so many great memories watching those shows.

Another great video, and all your points were spot on about the Acclaimed. I too was shocked to find out that the Acclaimed were a complete AEW creation. I thought that maybe they had come in as a tag team, but I forgot that they debuted as singles competitors. You did some excellent work putting this video package together, and laying out the timeline for everyone to follow along very easily.

I still remember when I started watching the Acclaimed in AEW Dark since I watched AEW content regularly since day one. When Max made his first raps and teaming up with Bowens together, I was probably one of the only people that not just saw the potential in them to become a mainstay in AEW, but they would also become very popular with the fans and eventually become tag team champions. And I know that patience can only go so far, but I hold on to that patience for the Acclaimed because they were one of the only indie or non-signed wrestlers/tag team in AEW that made me believe in what they could become. Because of that patience, I told myself "Wait til there's a filled-up crowd, and they will react to Max's rap diss and they will say the catchphrases with Bowens". Safe to say that I felt so proud of the Acclaimed on putting the work on their presentation, gimmick, complementary personalities and creativity, and I felt so proud of myself for believing in the Acclaimed from the very beginning when most people didn't and some would downright despise them before giving them a chance. Watching the Acclaimed starting from ground up to going over with the crowds with the raps, catchphrases and chants to winning the world tag team champions in the span of 2 years was the most vindicated feeling I ever had as not just an Acclaimed fan but an AEW fan as well. It would be hard to replicate the same feeling and predictions that I had for Anthony and Max not just because not everyone got the IT factor in some way. But also it's because EVERYONE LOVES THE ACCLAIMED!

As someone who really disliked the vibes early on, they've earned every bit of respect they have right now, and the idea of this MJF storyline could be one of the low key best things on TV... I don't know if I really want this as much as I think I do, but I think Platinum Max stole MJF's mask and has been helping him secretly behind the others back...

I remember despising them both at the start. Knockoff John Cena & his sidekick is all I saw, but very quickly they grew on me and became an all-time favorite

I love these guys one of my favorite AEW Stars I always say two grown man and they going through a goth phase to my best friend who is a huge Sting fan these guys are the epitome of Cody Rhodes is saying "of being undesirable to undeniable"

I'm not gonna lie, when I went to see All In at Wembly stadium, there was no other act I was more hyped up for than The Acclaimed

Your vids are some of the best AEW coverage . I agree the best thing about AEW is that it is the alternative, not trying to copy WWE and giving wrestling fans a buffet of wrestling to watch.

For the longest time, I thought they were already a tag team on the indies. That just goes to show how good their chemistry is.

I remember the first time I saw these dudes o. Aew, my wrestling group all laughed out loud at Max's rap, and I knew he'd be a breakout star. They're both doing great, and I always wanted them to team up with mjf, I didn't think they'd be faces though

MJF is prob the biggest homegrown talent. Yea, i know he was in MLW and whatnot, but hes become a huge name since AEW began.

Watching their rise week after week in the lead up yo All Out 2022 was a feeling I dont think I've ever experienced. When that match was announced I was okay with them losing, but only so long as the guys got to look great in the process. And holy shit they looked amazing in that match. Hearing the crowd take Keith Lee's chant and turn it into Oh Scissor Me Daddy is one of those moments in pro wrestling history that you very rarely see happen. And it was GLORIOUS.

The Acclaimed is my favorite tag team in AEW. Hell they’re my favorite tag team in professional wrestling right now and I have been a fan of theirs since their days on AEW Dark. When they won the AEW Tag Team Championships I must admit I was emotional. Because I saw how hard they worked and how far they came. That’s why I thought it was foolish to take the belts off of them so quick. Now they’re the Trios champions with Billy Gunn and it’s just not working for me. I still am a huge fan and will remain so but their run with the Trios titles isn’t doing anything for me at the moment I’m sure it will change eventually all they need is a feud. Something to sink their teeth into. I’m scratching my head because there are some trios that they could feud with. Like Bullet Club Gold for example. They have a history with the Gunns and Max Caster could light up Juice Robinson in a freestyle talking about his failed NXT run and how Toni Storm is more over than he is. The potential is there to make this trios run special they’re just not going for it and when The Acclaimed eventually lose the belts. How insane would it be if they were feuding with Bullet Club Gold that the reason they lost the belts is because Billy Gunn “inadvertently” costs them the titles and it leads to Billy Gunn reuniting with his sons in Bullet Club Gold. Billy Gunn would get more heat than Don Callis currently gets or close to it. I’m hoping that is the eventual plan because this trios run is really becoming stale.

If I remember correctly, when their combined weight was still mentioned during the in ring introduction, it was stated as 568 pounds. Neither guy is close to 280 bills (Caster, the bigger of the two is listed as 230 lbs.). This eventually just went away to give Max as much time for his rap as possible. Can’t find anything on why that was the case…

I remember seeing them curtain jerking in off-TV skits with TK at the first Grand Slam, to inside of a year them having become red hot. Meteoric rise is right.

I knew they were going to be something, though certainly not aware they would be as big as they are, when they had their first match and got me to go from "watching Dark while doing something else" to "actively watching Dark and wondering why these two were teaming but loving how much fun they seemed to be having already"

AEW sometimes drops the ball with stories and I fele hurts a young talent's chance of gaining momentum. But other times they give enough opportunities and do things just right. The acclaimed are hilarious and fun to watch, Tony did the right thing giving them contracts and pairing them up. 2022 they were getting the biggest crowd reactions. I remember seeing them early on and thinking the rapping thing was funny enough, but it just kept building and adding the gunns and they became one of my favorite acts to see.

Tony just cast a wide net. I love the guy's eye for talent but he's had a few misses too. But yeah, the Acclaimed were a great signing.

I have seen thw acclaimed from their debuta in AEW dark. I liked them and same as you didnt think they would be a face of the division within a year, i eqspecially loved bowens in ring work and his heel shit with that boom box. Their ring gear, entrance, physique, wrestling all clicked for me. I was juat waiting for them to deliver promos and build fueds. I think they have finally entered a good start for fueds with MJF as i still dont count or appreciate their run with The Gunns. During the gunns fued they didnt get proper screen time and promo to show the justifiable reason of their breakup.

I think they have done great, about a year ago especially they were getting incredible reactions. I’ve been finding them a bit stale recently though, Bowens screaming “Because everyone loves the acclaimed” in every segment they’re in has become very jarring to me.

This is my absolute hottest take but Max Caster did nothing wrong with the Simone Biles promo. Was it vile and should have never made TV? Absolutely. It was tape delayed, approved by a whole host of people throughout the company in production and management, and Max took the fall for a lot of bad choices. Max was a guy who gets heat for things in the now, and he did exactly what he was supposed to do. Never thought I'd agree with Punk but yeah, whole bunch of EVP's who couldn't manage a Target failed on that one.

Favorite act in AEW, if they ever come to WWE, I hope they don't become watered down and kid friendly

I often find myself wondering what an Acclaimed vs Prime New Day feud would look like. Crowds love both, both have weird stories where they weren’t the best, and both are gonna leave legacies behind. Including Billy Gunn in the imagination is optional as he helps but he isn’t the center of The Acclaimed.

I was a Dark watcher first rap he ever did I thought he was awesome, I noticed people pretending they weren't good in the beginning in the comments section or the low fruit Cena ripoff, first his first rap was better than all Cena raps put together, people just like to pretend they are above everything and throw out the cheap corny word, I don't care if no one knows them if they are awesome. Its the same with AEW and ECW they both were always better than WWE ratings and crowd size doesn't change that fact. If jimmy hendricks played in front of nobody it doesn't change him being Jimmy Hendricks, not comparing those things except that clout isn't everything the talent is.
