I think the only positive that came out of Cody losing to Jericho and never challenging for the AEW World Championship is that it really put MJF on the map. MJF was a great heel, but that angle, his feud with Cody, and everything that came afterwards was excellent.
@@MoesAk47Cody Rhodes left on his own terms he said that he loved everybody at aew especially Tony Khan he never said one bad thing about the company he always wish them the best of luck at always support them
@@messithegoat7178 yeah that's true Cody left on his own and also the fact that all the fans keep on booing are you all right aew has been doing great until that CM Punk interview from the MMA hour happen and it put a black eye on the company
Cody wasn’t AEW’s biggest fumble. The fans have revolted against him even though he has the same gimmick that he does now. Cody and his “phoniness” just doesn’t bode well with AEW’s smark fans. Their biggest fumble is CM Punk.
@@sarveshjalootharia1603 I'm just saying you cannot blame everything on aew on Tony Khan when TK was not a head Booker at the time Cody Rhodes literally was the head Booker of aew along with Kenny Omega and the young Buck cody book himself into that position and why he never wanted to turn heel
@@johnbeal6114 Punk wanted to quit because the Bucks and Co went out of their way to make him feel unwelcome. Being EVPs and all, it was a fumble by AEW as a company.
Everything worked out as it should for Cody. He left and excelled where every he went...he proved himself and returned home.. I always enjoyed Cody and was fed up with his booking as Stardust so I was happy he left. When he returned to WWE❤🥳🥳🥳
The crazy thing is before the pandemic, Mox mentioned in one of his interviews that he wanted a feud with Cody and wanted him to do a story where he could go for the top title. I'm assuming no fans a few weeks later had something to do with it However, Cody going back ended up being the right move in more ways than one. He didn't want to turn heel in AEW, he's the biggest babyface in WWE. Him and Seth in Hell in a Cell was WWE's first main roster match to get a five star rating since Punk vs Cena. Also, it's looking likely he's facing The Rock in the future too
Aew's biggest and consistent problem has been only one right at top - Tony Khan. He's not a booker but a Money Mark. He fumbled Cody, Cargil and Punk. He's not a leader but a fantasy wrestling toys/card collector except he's substituting them with wrestlers. He has no idea how to book angle for 3 months much less a year. No matter how good wrestling matches could be it can never garner high ratings as there no stories or angle to keep anyone invested. He has all the resources and talents to help him but that his ego won't allow him. Aew have now entered the comatose stage and it'll continue as long as his father keeps cutting the checks.
Sad part is that it's not even enjoyable to watch the downfall anymore. Now I just want the company to fold, so the 5 actual entertaining wrestlers in AEW can jump back to real TV.
They could have had that match against Jericho go to a time limit draw (AEW loved those time limit draws back then). That way he didn’t technically lose, so he would still be allowed to challenge for the title in the future.
Fans are fickle. Whoever turned on Cody never liked him to being with. Even with the cody-verse I didn't hate him I just wanted better stories. I knew when they lost Cody they fucked up. He was the moral glue.
4:33 I think Cody said in an interview, he didnt want to do the Jeff Jarrett thing and run the brand while being the top champion. Which he regretted not too long after😅
What's done, is done. Unless he becomes a Pokémon and his movesets are "Ref Bump, Guitar Shot, Kick To The Nutsack, Stroke, Brick To The Head, Samoan Drop, Shup Up Or I'll Smack You One"
Controversial opinion, But I find Codey extremely boring and one dimensional (again, this is my opinion). I think that he was a big gain for WWE, but at the same time, I don't think that he was a big loss to AEW.
In AEW he would also say a lot of dumb shit in his promos. That he’ll never challenge for the world title again, that he solved racism by getting his black wife pregnant, or simply his entire feud with Anthony Ogogo and all that outdated nationalist mess just being examples I remember. He’s probably running off a script in WWE so he doesn’t put his foot in his mouth so much. A lot of people either forgot or overlooked how cringe he was in AEW. I’m happy for him now though.
Unfortunately, the AEW fans are much different and hardcore than the WWE "Universe". That's why AEW fans booed Cody out of building in shows because he's so bland on character.
Well to be fair WWE marks were hating Cody and saying “He couldn’t even make it in the WWE” is when he was in AEW. I admired how he booked himself in AEW, unfortunately fans wanted him AEW champion and or a heel since the “American Nightmare” persona was a heel. I will always respect Cody for not booking himself as AEW Champion like he could’ve. I for one will look forward to hopefully heel run eventually. Hope they don’t go the Cena route and pull that trigger when it gets to that point in his current run.
I wonder if winning the AEW World title would have hurt his chances of becoming WWE champion, if he still jumped. Im wondering what if with AEW's bad booking (even thought Cody was great at coming up with his own segments) but if the ratings, fan perception, or anything else would have tainted his championship run, where WWE would have felt he wasn't championship material. Or the fact that even thought he left WWE, he still felt like a WWE guy, and even thought the story was about the WWE championship, I wonder if him being AEW champion befire would have made him less sympathetic in gis WWE gold quest. Etc, etc, etc.
Problem is, tony booked cody into that corner idc if cody was an evp, tony is the boss and cody lost the match and if he did still go after the title anyway he would have to break the promise he made and turn heel. The whole point was he never wants to turn heel again, I assume for good reason. Also lets be fair him beating brodie lee then him going away and dying after was the catalyst for all of Cody's heat. Cody is doing better now in wwe than ever. Aew has lost 2 of it biggest draws ever in cody and punk. I want them to exist but under the guides of tony I really dont think it will get views whether or not they exist.
cody didnt want to win the aew belt because it would have hurt his chances to win the wwe belt. he had a wwe comeback in mind the whole time, if he was the aew champ and he goes over and beats the wwe champ what does that say? i dont agree with the logic but for sure that would have been a thought
No Cody didn’t wanna win the AEW World title because he didn’t want the Smart Mark fans to say he booked himself to become World Champion hell Cody himself said he didn’t wanna be a multiple time TNT champion
Had cody become ultra heel after that malakai feud We couldve had that but he didnt wanna be heel because he had a kid (from whichever interview i forgot)
Cody’s the one who put the stipulation and said he doesnt wanna turn heel because he wanna go for the championship as he had a kid So he booked himself to a corner in aew
AEW fans were looking for a Cody Rhodes heel turn after his multiple questionable promos (which no one seems to remember). When he thumbed his nose at the fans and outright refused to turn, that’s when the crowd really turned on him. Either he knew he wasn’t much longer for AEW or his ego was massively inflated working in an exciting company he helped start. Good on him for finding success in WWE after the fact. Still, Cody can’t be considered blameless for his time in AEW fizzling out.
How Cody gets around it: As babyface: double champ match. have heel champ challenge him for TNT title. "You're relegated to forever be a mid card champ Cody. And now I'm going to take that from you. You're a nobody. You could never beat me. We're going to have a double champ match. I win I get your title. You win...you get mine." As heel: Cody plays corrupt executive that sneaks in paperwork behind Tony's back that gets him a title shot. Tony thought he could trust him and didn't read the contract.
the creation of aew was cody's master plan to get back to wwe he used it to make himself over to a point when wwe signs him they have to put him as the number 1 guy
I always saw the "self ban" would lead to the heel turn. Especially after Hangman became world champion. Figured he'd turn heel and be like how he was in the indies. Would've been great to see.
There's no doubt...AEW was better during Cody time there overall...Not every feud but overall...Crazy though toward Cody's end of being with AEW...The fans wanted him to turn heel..as they booed him on some of his last promos...I found that funny...But regardless...Cody leaving was the first break in AEW armory....I think AEW knows that too...ala..Darby promo on the other EVP😮
no mistake aew audiance fully reject him, he is suitable to wwe but not to aew its better for both, you should watch last aew episode featuring him, every on was booing him,
Fr Cody Rhodes his story is very interesting honestly it's something that you never think will happen in wrestling another guy from a different company through and through winning their major champion in the way that he did is pretty wild I respect Cody a lot more after watching this cuz you reminded me of everything
Cody was the only EVP that had a clue what he was doing and proof is in what has been since he left. If it was because of wanting to show fairness and all of that BS then why do the bucks always enter the tag team title category? The ratings go down when they show up on TV, fact don't like it don't care. UGH if you want to monday morning quarterback this crap all they had to do was say he can't fight for the world title for a year or 2. Problem solved thats it.
The Same Way Cody Booked Himself Out Of Competing For The AEW World Title He Could Have Easily Booked Himself To Win A Match Where He Wins And Can Now Compete For The AEW World Title. See How Simple & Easy It Was To Solve That Problem.
Cody could be the perfect guy for AEW to send to the NFL Network instead of the stuff Tony Khan pulled that made the NFL panelists cringe and even hold their laughs in front of Tony.
Nah Cody ruined his own run by wanting to never go heel, he was set up perfectly for it. Worst thing aew did for him was let his wife have such roles and influence.
The fans over there was the ones that fumbled that. They would constantly boo him for no reason. He hasn’t really changed or improved now. Now he’s the worst “face of wwe” ever !
The one thing AEW got right is letting Rhodes go. He's boring. He has nothing but a cool song that the fan boys can say WHOA to. His mic skills are awful. His wrestling skills are weak. The bad suits and bad tattoo are awful.
"couldn't challenge " ...hmmm ... they should've made a tournament like the Owen hart one and announce mid tournament the fact that the winner will be the aew champion (if vacant) or the winner will face the champion for some bullshit name like " The dealer of AEW" , winner takes all (nickname and championship)
Cody is an upper mid card as best. The wwe champion doesn’t fit his character with how the champion looks he needs to change the champion to fit his character.
Miro? No idea. My best guess is that either he or Tony or both wants him to be kept as a once-in-a-while attraction. Otherwise I’m at a loss as to why he isn’t used. Keith Lee would be a great challenger for Swerve Strickland given their history as a tag team, but honestly he looked slow and labored against Samoa Joe so I’m kind of worried about him.

(this comes from a anti-cody person) As good as Cody was on the indys and AEW he was always a "WWE guy". He seen the future and didnt like it, went out and changed wrestling for the US, Euro, & New Japan fans. He literally did everything he possibly could with/for AEW. He wanted to he the (face) of a company and AEW fans didnt see him as that. WWE took him back with open arms bc Vince loves anyone who would go against him or challenge him. He seen what Cody did and loved it. The rest in WWE came only bc of his fans that didnt want to see the same old shit and having a star from a bygone era come in and take his spotlight. I respect that, the last time the fans gave WWE no choice was Daniel Bryan almost a decade ago. Cody never failed in AEW, AEW never failed Cody. Cody elevated himself, AEW went off the rails and is trying to gain control again.
The best thing Cody ever did was Leave WWE because, at the time they didn’t see his value only to return 6 years later a bigger star than when he left.
