My coat of arms was registered when my ancestor came to Pennsylvania in 1741. It’s in the state archives. An ancestor of mine was a knight in Austria in the 1300’s.

The CoA usually sold for McDaniel is that of the first Earls of Antrim. Now, it's entirely possible, and even likely, that my own direct male line is descended from the first earl's younger brother, who was a baronet and consequently would have had his own CoA. In any case, without producing a proper documentary tree sufficient to satisfy the College of Arms, I can't use either. If I do find all the records, it's still unlikely since it costs a young fortune to process the claim and receive the permission and the actual arms. Perhaps mildly frustrating, since it would be cool to have that feather added to my cap badge and my own crest without the buckle on the badge.

Coats of arms were not used as early as the Norman conquest, and it’s been proven that the ‘heraldry’ on the bayeux tapestry are not actual heraldic representations because the same people are shown in different parts of the tapestry with different arms. It’s thought it’s just artistic liberty, not heraldic bearings.

The coat of arms of Kent (the county in England where I live) is a white horse on a red shirld, surrounded by weird lion-sea horse things. The small coat of arms is the red shield with a white horse, as shown in this video. Arms: Gules a Horse forcene Argent. Crest: Issuant from a mural crown proper three masts rigged with courses set and topsails furled proper flying from each masthead a pennon Argent charged with a cross Gules. In other words, it's a white horse on a red shield, with symbolic crap around it.

Many of the coats of arms displayed here are not from old noble families but from the modern German states or Bundesländer. Some of those were created quite recently, e.g. after WWII, or after the fall of the Berlin wall, when the state was established. They incorporated historic elements but were new nevertheless. Maybe you should show coats of arms like these: de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wappen?searchToken=czuimas4qzarceekof1rbvff#/media/Datei%3ASiebmacher134.jpg

So, I am a direct male line descendant of Sir Richard Yorke (Lord Mayor of York) and his grandson, Sir John Yorke (High Sheriff of London and Master of Mint). Would I be entitled to use their coat of arms? And if so, which should use? The older one of Sir Richard or the newer of Sir John?
@crisanister5131
@crisanister5131 5 месяцев назад
As the guy said, In Great Britain they are granted to individuals, not families. If a son (or descendant) wants the arms of someone dead they have to petition the heraldic authority, provide documents to prove they are THE direct descendant(first son of the first son etc) and provide proof they are subject to that heraldic authority. And even so, I suspect they would be granted a modified version.

How do we find out if we are ok to use a family crest or coat of arms? I found one for both my dad’s and mom’s surname.
@Ancestralfindings
@Ancestralfindings 9 месяцев назад
Great question! The use of a family crest or coat of arms is often governed by specific heraldic rules, which can vary by country. In many cases, a coat of arms is granted to an individual, not a family, meaning it's not automatically passed down to all descendants. Research Your Ancestry: First, verify if your ancestors were officially granted a coat of arms. This usually involves genealogical research to directly connect your lineage to the original recipient. Consult Heraldic Authorities: In countries like the UK, bodies like the College of Arms or the Court of the Lord Lyon in Scotland can confirm the legitimacy of a coat of arms. They maintain historical records of arms and can provide guidance. Consider Jurisdiction: Heraldic laws vary. In some countries, coats of arms are strictly regulated, while in others, like the United States, they're considered more as personal or family symbols without legal regulation. Create Your Own: If you're not directly entitled to an existing coat of arms, you might consider designing your own, respecting traditional heraldic rules. This can be a meaningful way to represent your family's history and values. Remember, a coat of arms is more than just a decorative symbol; it's a part of heraldic tradition with specific meanings and history. It's great that you're exploring this part of your family's heritage!

@@Ancestralfindings ok thank you so much! I really love this and found that mother’s family was part Italian and my father’s was part Spaniard. I wanted to find the family crest or coat of arms and give them as a gift to my parents and they can pass it to their grandchildren. I’d perhaps get more for my own family as well.

How do you find out if you have a coat of arms?
@Ancestralfindings
@Ancestralfindings 9 месяцев назад
Finding out if your family has a coat of arms involves a bit of research: Start with Your Family History: Trace your ancestry back as far as you can. You're looking for a direct ancestor who may have been granted a coat of arms. Check Heraldic Records: Once you have some names and dates, you can check with heraldic authorities. In the UK, for instance, the College of Arms or the Court of the Lord Lyon in Scotland are the places to go. They have detailed records of all officially granted coats of arms. Local Libraries or Historical Societies: Sometimes, local historical records, libraries, or genealogical societies can have information on family heraldry. Online Databases: Websites like Ancestry.com or MyHeritage sometimes have heraldic information as part of their historical records collections. Remember, a coat of arms is usually granted to an individual, not a family, so you’ll need to trace your lineage back to that specific person. Good luck with your search!

One huge error commonly believed and repeated ~ COAs are NOT about achievements or philosophies ~ they're about ancestry/heritage, thus, her - ald- ry/her - it - age ~ "ald/alt" in German = old/of old. Her(r) = titled/nobility. In other words, "inheritance", as in, inherited bloodline/birthright. A little bit of etymology would clear this up very quickly. My surname is Hertel = her(r) + el/El ~ titled/nobility/knight/WARRIOR of/for God. It originated with William (T)ell ~> Her(r) (T)el(l), founder of Switzerland, who was a descendant of Gad (most likely). Gad (tribe of) was known in the Bible as the "lion of Judah", because of their protectiveness of David when Saul was trying to kill him AND their plea to God for help before they went into a battle, See the Testament of Gad, a free download from Internet Archive, part of "The Testaments of the Twelve Patruarchs". Not sure of the book, chapter, verse of "lion of Judah", but I think in 1 Samuel, 1 Kings, and maybe 1 Chronicles.
@GeneralPadron
@GeneralPadron 8 месяцев назад
You might want to go back and learn a bit more Hebrew and ancient Hebrew, before making comments like this. "Lion of Judah"..lol That would be Ari'Yahoodah, not "GAD". By the way, Yahoodah is one of the twelve tribes of "Yisrael"("GOD has prevail!"), and is the only tribe we know today that has survived. We today call them, Jews. If it isn't in the Scriptures, Pentatuch/Torah or the Brit Ha'dishah(New Testament).
@fuerstinhun98
@fuerstinhun98 8 месяцев назад
@@GeneralPadron I understand that's what you've been taught all your life, but the reality is that all the tribes are still in existence today ~ you just have to know where and how to look for them. The so-called lost 10 tribes are very findable, and even your own tribesmen will point them out to you, if you ask them.

Wow, that's an incredible family history you have! Being related to President Hilla Liman of Ghana, as well as to the royalty of the Mampursi and Dagomba, is truly fascinating. It's amazing to think about the rich cultural and historical narratives that your maternal lineage holds. And your paternal Algerian heritage adds even more diversity to your background. The DNA test result connecting you to a pharaoh is just the cherry on top of a very intriguing ancestral story. Thanks for sharing your unique and diverse heritage with us!

@fuerstinhun98 2 года назад
Frost could be a character name or about some activity the original engaged in. It could also be (from the region of) lots of frost. Look up the etymology of the word. Also, consider the language of where the line originated from. Frost is the Anglecized version, which was a common practice for immigrants who came into English speaking countries.

@Beanmachine91 2 года назад
@@fuerstinhun98 i heard the frost name is british and Scandinavian
@fuerstinhun98
@fuerstinhun98 2 года назад
@@Beanmachine91 That would mean that Frost originated in Scandinavia and at some point went to Britain. Are you aware of how many Scandinavians settled in what we know as Britain today? I recently discovered that my mother's maiden name is Scythian. I discovered it in the Turkic language and on further investigation, in Hindu and Persian. I'd run into a scholarly website, which described the overthrow of the Persian king and aristocracy by a large slave population there in the 600s - 500s BC, Knowing the history of the so-called 10 lost tribes of Idreal, I knew that slave population was the Israelites of the northern kingdom that had been taken into captivity/exiled to Assyria/Persian, as we would know it in history. I also knew that hundreds of thousands of Israelites had gone to the Indus Valley in India thousands of years ago, and then hundreds of thousands left India right at 1200 AD, but likely, many hundreds of thousands left India centuries earlier. Look at the history of Mohenjo(sp.?) Daro in the Indus Valley. (Whenever the scientists claim they can'tdecipher a written language or don't know anything of the origins of a people, you can bet it's about Israelites in Captivity). I recommend you look up frost in Scandinavian, check out the etymology of the word, and look for a lexicon on old/ancient Sandinavian languages. Likely Frost has a Viking origin, which could be of Norse, Swedish, or Danish/Jute origin. The Vikings were actually Danites/Phoenicians/Venetians. Dan married Canaanite women and was the first tribe to fall into apostasy. Read Gen. 49, Amos 8:14, Rev. 7, the last for who's NOT listed among those who inherit from God. This doesn't mean if your a descendant of Dan, you won't be saved ~ we all have a certain amount of Canaanite DNA in us ~ it's those who are virtually 100% Canaanite who have been condemned ~ the international banking cabal of today, basically.
