BRAVO. This is the first time were the lesson is very clear, with all details and easy to understand. Usually there is the tendence to speak a lot and explain just a little bit.
I discovered by chance Affinity just a few days ago; I downloaded the Beta Version for Windows; immediately I looked at some tutorials to hear how to use it, but I was disppointed either by the fact that they were made by people that enjoyed only too much to get the pleasure to lissen themselves (80% of the time for useless speaking) and because there were commands I could not see on my computer; it took me a couple of days to discover that I was usind Affinity Designer Beta Version for PC Windows while the tutorials were for Affinity Photo (none was explaining the difference); when I discovered that there were two different ones, I looked at Affinity Designer Tutorials and suddenly I found yours (only 4) and everything the sky became blue. For many years I have used IrfanView to work on all my photos, making a lot of wonderful things, despite that it is like a silly toy compared with Photoshop and Affinity, but I was happy enough. A few weeks ago I tried to learn how to use GIMP, but it is too complicate and I came to the conclusion that IrfanView was better. Now I have discovered Affinity and thanks to you I have discovered how to use it for Designer purposes (it could be useful occasionally); I have to wait until it will be available Affinity Photo for PC Windows. I would suggest Affinity Team to engage you at full time to become their Official Tutorials Developer; it would be for their interest to promote Affinity Photo e Designere; the first one will have for sure a huge audience. I will follow your tutorilas on this matter. Un saluto da Milano
Clear, concise & sooooo helpful. This tutorial really makes me comfortable with the software, the options available & clarifies why & how I'd make my choice in creative process/workflow.
Thank you so much Alessandro for your tutorial, your explanation is so clear. I got 2 questions about node tools, hope you could kindly help me on that^^ 1) Is it possible to easily choose few nodes at the same time like in illustrator, instead of using move tools to pick up 2 objects, then using node tools, hold shift to select the points that I need? 2) Is it possible to use Align center (horizontal and vertical) so to bring the nodes together? Thank you again in advanced.
If I am working with a triangle and convert it to curves and now I want to curve two sides, is there a way I can make sure the curves are the same or can duplicate a curve to both sides?
Big fan of the channel! I've been struggling with trying to crop a logo design that I've created. I've outlined the design with the pen tool and attempted to merge it with the blank white background. I'm not sure how to combine the outline with the actual design so that I can divide it from the background. Any suggestions on this matter would be much appreciated. Thank you
If you have the outline, you can convert it into a pixel layer (rasterize) and then merge the 2 layers. I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. So, you have a logo that it's pixel, maybe a scan? Then, what are you trying to do after you created the vector outline?
I've attempted to do as instructed. Though I'm not sure how to about the rest. Could you inform me on how the two differ? The logo is embedded in a square. I am trying to eliminate the white area surrounding it.
HI Alessandro. Thank you for video. I have a question to you. If I convert the project, text or square on a curves, do I have an option to go back into normal? I mean, I have a file save in curves, but I want to change text in a normal way, not letter by letter. How can I do that in Affinity?
+Mieczysław Dutkowski hi, thanks for watching. I think I said it in the video that, unfortunately, the convert to curve option is not reversible. You can't go back and turn curves into shapes or text.
I love the Affinity suite, but i got issues with it too. When i use the node tool to click on a path to add a node i get no result. Also the selection system is a bit finicky. Like you could be clicking on an object and there'd be no response at all. You gonna have to go to the layers panel to do a selection there. And also why release a vector program without a full text editing capability? It's depressing really. Those are among some of my qualms
Yes you can. Use the node tool. Select both curves (click one, Shift-click the second curve), then join curves button should work fine. (It will use a line to join the two closest end nodes, the points do not have to be directly on top of each other).
Hi love your Vid's. I'm new to this. In the help file I looked for the eraser tool it show's on there but I can't find it in the toolbar. A little help would be great.
The eares tool is in the Pixel Person, not the Draw Persona. Check the first video of this series to understand the different views of Affinity Designer.
HI, i need to exapand a line in a vector object, i've tried to click the property button but it seems doesn't work, the circle line remain a line and not a vecotr object. can you help me please?
Any idea why I still get a thin red line around any shape I draw, even when the stroke is at zero? I was using the program all day without this happening, now I can't seem to get it off.
Unfortunately, Affinity Designer at this moment doesn't offer an automated tool to convert a PNG into a vector image. Adobe Illustrator has a Trace Path feature that can do that. With AD, you can only retrace it manually. Check the videos I did about the Turnip Man, where I created a vector image from a drawing. Cheers
I have a quality problem when i export my images. Cuz I saved them as png and when I open the image its ok, but with zoom i can see the pixels again. Do you know how to export it with more quality?
Hi, if you zoom a PNG it's normal for you seeing pixels, because the image exported is not vector anymore, but raster. If you want to have higher quality you should start with a bigger file dimension, but it all depends where you're planning to use that exported image. Cheers
I need to know how to select a whole object just by selecting one line or segment from that object -- just like in Adobe Illustrator. EDIT: I found it: make the marquee and then hit the CTRL key. Now to figure out how to make this type of selection default... EDIT2: I found it! Go to Settings > Tools > and tick the box "select object when intersects with selection marquee" ... thanks!
