Behind the Name of the Parsha: Afflicted with Opportunity
Tazria means to conceive and give birth. The question is, since the name of a Parsha always contains the essence of its content, as does any heading.. Why would its name be Giving Birth To Life when it mainly deals with Tzaraat Lepercy which has not just nothing to do with birth, but is actually the complete opposite, as the Talmud says that someone afflicted with Lepercy is compared to a dead person?
The Rebbe explains that punishments in Torah are not intended to harm, but are rather a result of the wrong done and an opportunity to reset and again come close to Hashem.
In the case of the leper, someone spoke gossip and as a result is afflicted with Tzaraat Lepercy, necessating him to spend time alone. On the one hand, being alone & cut off from friends and family is likened to death. On the other hand, the leper now knows what it feels like for the person gossiped about. And once he learns his lesson, can now start again fresh, like a new born baby, having another chance at life.
We've all made mistakes. Let's use them as learning opportunities. To start again, giving birth to a whole new era.. In best of health, filled with happiness, prosperity, tremendous success and all good things!
