I thought this too but I don't think he's left Islam. I think he may have had a period of time when he was severely doubting but then he found a way to mentally reconcile differences. It reminds me of his lecture where he tries to posit the idea of Yajuj and Majuj being zombies.

It's not like he could convert to another religion because I'm sure that during his journey into where he is today he found good reasons to mentally rule out all those other religions.
