@@ProAVTV I kinda feel bad for Senn in this area. It's a tough market gap. If they make it *too* entry level, basic, or unreliable at the benefit of cost reduction, then they hurt their brand. If they nail all those areas while making it smaller and more user friendly, then bam, they've really canibalized their upper end market. It's tough to make something entry level, reliable, solid, and affordable negating the rest of their lineup.

Seems to me there are pros and cons to both. But who knows, maybe Sennheiser supplies replacements. But the cool thing about this IMO is being able to use XLR mics---which almost always sound better than lavs...and you could put that mic anywhere since it's wireless.

If you need somebody to tell you the difference between the two then you don't know what you're doing. At this point is very clear with the differences between these two all it takes is 30 minutes of research.

How did they work out?

@@brambledemon1232 In short, CONS: the range is quite short. With the receiver attached the a7iii, I physically couldn't lower the volume enough for it not to peak during some wedding speeches. The mic clip broke on first usage (more to do with the ME2 mic). PROS: So easy to use. With receiver attached to Zoom mic the quality is a lot better obviously. If you're in range it won't cut out so it's pretty reliable in that sense. Pretty much does everything I need it to do - interviews for corporate work, youtube vids and wedding ceremony/speeches, and I'm happy with purchase. Going to record the review tomorrow for my channel, hope that all helps :)

Exactly my thought. The cable problems with Rode Filmmaker kit are driving me insane. If I was Sennheiser I'd spot this marketing niche and target filmmakers like me because if it works well I'll be buying a few :)

I think 5hours lifespan is for continous use. It wont matter unless you do a 5hours straight take

Hunt Epic for sure, just makes me a bit more nervous than it should haha. I wouldn’t trust USB-c staying plugged in on certain shoots is all, and I never underestimate my ability to not charge yet another battery fully, the day before shoots, especially when filming multiple days in a row.That being said... I think I’m going to buy this haha. :)

David Atkinson I do recall him saying that. That means 15 charging minutes between interviews (not uncommon to use the same setup multiple times for me) is about 25 mins of interview time? My Math could be totally off lol.

Shark That’s correct, that is what the specs say. The main reason I think for 19ms in AVX is it’s limiters....which the SXW-D doesn’t have...my conclusion.

This is their entry level digital system. I wouldn't recommend this to professional sound operators. This is for the camera operators who have to record sound as well and do it quickly, perhaps with smaller cameras like mirrorless ones. Carl

Alex Stephens yes all Tx and Rx work with each other, (xlr minijack 1/4 jack) and all available separately or in various sets.

Odd Einar Kvarsten Hmm...between 19ms (in AVX) and 0ms (in cables) there would be a noticeable difference people say. But between 3.9 (in SXW-D) and 1.5-2.0 (in higher end equipment) I can’t imagine many would notice...depends on the audience I guess?

@@ProAVTV Sennheiser's own series of 5 videos shows how to pair a receiver to 2 transmitters. It will remember both transmitters when you power off, but in operation, only 1 transmitter can be linked at a time. The other transmitter needs to be turned off, and so on. Anyone familiar with pairing Bluetooth of any kind will understand the push/push-hold settings to get these things working, which I think will be on of its attractions to novices who don't want to be audio technicians on top of shooting video.

I find the AVX wireless which uses 1.9 digital wireless very reliable. Hopefully they have managed to get similar reliability with these even though they use 2.4. They main advantages both this and the AVX have is that they automatically search for and switch to the strongest signal band Carl

There is a slight delay in digital wireless as a whole. Because of this, if you daisy chain speakers like this there might be a slight echo between the speakers. If you have 4 outputs on your desk you can go from the desk to each speaker with a unit each and then the delay will be consistent across all speakers Carl

ProAV TV since Sennheiser also announced specific sets for guitarists (where any latency can affect your playing), I assumed the latency would have to be less than on the AVX. Edit: on B&H the latency is listed as

AVX has about 17ms. which is normal for DEC band transmission. XSW-D is 4 ms. Fast enough for live use.@@ProAVTV

Phantom power would really kill battery time. I have portable recorders that provide phantom, e.g. to a condenser microphone, and I would ball park the power time as cut in half. I just stopped doing it unless I can power the recorder through its USB data/power jack.... which while typing this, I'm thinking the video shows a transmitter on a battery bank, so yeah, maybe phantom power could be in a follow up model of the XSW-D. In the field though, I leave the condensers at home.

I actually fully despise 2 channel receivers. I don't want audio from two sources going into one channel. If something goes wrong with the receiver, I am now down 2 channels instead of just 1. Not sure how this is a design that is in demand...

@@darrylsmith3102 not in any I've used. They have two inputs, being a dual channel *receiver*. But, they only have one output where the channels are split left and right. You have to, on most recorders, use wires to separate the left and right channels to input the channels individually. I have not used one that has two outputs. I'm sure they exist, but there is one other issue: If the dual channel RX is damaged, broken, dropped, malfunctions, dies, explodes, abducted by aliens... you're down 2 channels. Game over. At leat with single TX / RX, if one breaks I can make an adjustment and rig up something else for coverage. It's only 1 channel down. You have a dual unit go down... now you have to figure out a way to replace coverage for two channels. Much more complicated. I'm sure Sennheiser isn't a fan of these same issues, hence the lack of a dual channel system.
