The sad thing is before the US and NATO invasion opium production was at all time lows. After that opium production sky rocketed. Thanks U.S. Joint chiefs and the CIA!
Not that good an agent are you?, I was there at the end of ‘88 beginning of’89 training the Mujahideen how to disrupt Soviet supply convoys by using unexploded Russian ordinance to make roadside mines (the birth of the IED) using experience gained in Northern Ireland, the Americans were also there supplying and teaching the use of shoulder fired ground to air ‘Stinger’ missiles. At that time opium production was greatly increased as the main source of income for funds to keep up the armed defence against Russia and Turkish organised crime groups were the main customers as its where the heroin labs are located. Because the country was divided up and controlled by various warlords the country has for over a century supplied over 80% of the world’s opium which is why Russia thought relatively small individual militias would be easy to defeat and they had every intention of keeping the Turkish labs supplied.
Can't they give this kind woman a break pls!? She's doing well in helping the drug addicts and abused women, god knows she's the only person there that still believes those patients can still recover. I wish her well and more success in her goals. 🙏🏼
There are always those who want to limit others' freedom. I really don't understand the Taliban's viewpoint. What if I don't want to live like you, why should I be forced? You live your life and I live mine. It's that simple.
They have a strong religious belief and see a lot of mundane things as immoral. From their view there's no reason to not force it onto others and only right

Progressive people become less interested in religion. While other religions have had to accept this fact since they no longer have the political power they once had, Islam continues to be a highly political religion and Muslim religious leaders wield too much political power in Islamic countries. To them progress=Less religious population=less political power. That is unacceptable to them and therefore, they keep the Muslim diaspora in strict control by using petro dollars to export their rotten ideology. Unfortunately, the Muslim diaspora, knowingly or unknowingly, continues to be blind to this issue. To me, they are like a prisoner who has the key to his cell but chooses to be imprisoned.
Every time I enter this restaurant, I realize from the eyes of the employees that there are countless reasons and beauties in life to live for, even in this war torn country.
She could stay busy here in the United States. No shortage of addiction issues here. Our country needs to focus more on why people feel the need to escape their problems with drugs, food, shopping ECT. In till we fix the root of this problem we're never going to fix anything!
Shes a hero. She helps her own country despite being a very poor place and without much future perspectives. Americans need to deal with their own issues
The war on drugs concept is a big problem for the us. In my country theres is a low drug consumption (Portugal). The addicts here arent criminalized, they can get rehab and have support to find jobs and reintegrate. We dont put them in jail. Off course we have some kids who smoke pot but thats mostly it.

She has a lot of resentment towards religion because of her first husband. When will people learn to distinguish between culture and religion? But we thank her for helping the addicted anyway.
I wish they couldve explained more about her facilities program. Ive heard of AA meetings in the desert in Iran, if the addiction rate in Afghanistan really is 1 in 10 I wonder how popular the 12 step program is there. Is her rehab 12 step or islamic based, cbt or something else?
A nice heartwarming report for the people at home about an amazing lady. Except the report neglects the fact that millions of Afghan citizens have been addicted since early childhood. Many were given the drug by parents as it is cheaper than food and medicine. For kids who’ve suffered the loss of parents in the US/ European bombings, or who’ve lost limbs themselves, heroin is the most convenient painkiller. I would rather have been told this than be given a horticultural lesson about plants. The drug situation is dreadful in Afghanistan and the last 2 decades of war have created a situation where addiction can flourish. Obviously the situation under the Taliban will be worse. But it doesn’t help to provide western audiences with reports where hard facts have been sugar-coated.
